i don't have slsk as I am a mac nerd (but not enough of one to make slsk myself; esp. since the computer I download with isn't even at my own house). ==> I haven't heard the new Orbital cd. I understand it is good though!

Ah! There are Mac clients now my friend, for I am Macboy too. :-) Drop myself or Elvis T. a line, or check out some of the threads around here, there's been some posting about them.

And yes, quite good, I just finished relistening to it.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Vaguely related: I've found out i'm receiving an iPod for my birthday, which is marvellous and totally outta leftfield.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 02:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Attention Tim Finney : Why do you never invite us all to the booty parties your flatmates sometimes hold? The whole of Melbourne want onboard.

cnwb (cnwb), Tuesday, 11 May 2004 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Unfortunately I don't live with my old flatmates anymore! I finally moved in with my boyfriend who is not so pro-booty.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

[insert obvious "so why'd you move in with him, hyuck hyuck" joke here]

VengaDan Perry (Dan Perry), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 12:44 (twenty-two years ago)

attn. tim finney: sorry i didn't respond to yr last email with anything like timeliness. i have not heard of a single one of those ukg tracks!

strongo hulkington (dubplatestyle), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 12:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Attn. Tim: a Soulseek thread which mentions Nicotine, the program you'd want, and other good Mac-centric details.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 12 May 2004 13:29 (twenty-two years ago)

For those that might be interested, skykicking is currently operating at a (temporary? permanent) new address while Tripod fucks me around.

Jess I want some reciprocal suggestions!

Ned I'll check that out asap - thanks.

I have absolutely no idea how he does it.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 17 September 2004 03:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Why, by listening and writing and thinking with that mighty fine mind of his, o' course.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 17 September 2004 03:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm good! V. busy as per, working too much, not studying enough, but who needs Civil Procedure anyway? How are you and Keith etc?

Also official video in production now.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Friday, 17 September 2004 05:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm good. Pretty behind at uni though. Hey my brother is putting on a noise/sound art and psych improv night at Bus Gallery, 117 Little Lonsdale St tomorrow. Him and Ollee and Mark from Synaesthesia are performing. Maybe I should take this to the Attention Melbourne thread

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 06:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Tim, good defense of White Houses (I stand by my criticisms: too much hiding of light under bushels - great chorus, why hide it by hiving it off so much), but do you like Vanessa's take on Where The Streets Have No Name? That's going to be harder to justify.

edward o (edwardo), Tuesday, 9 November 2004 06:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just sorry you didn't include your Weekly writings in with the "Articles" links :`-(

Also in the works (note the links are all horribly out of date, so don't be offended edward, dee etc.)

I like that this page gives ILX a chance to micro-manage my publishing...

JON CARTER is spinning at, er, FAMOUS at the qbh next week. would I be advised to brave the haircut house crowd to see the man in action?

yrs,

H2-H4 (H2-H4), Monday, 2 October 2006 00:41 (nineteen years ago)

Dear H2-H4,

Haven't ever seen Jon Carter play live - and haven't been to Famous for that matter - so can't say for sure. Carter's new Chinese Laundry mix looks like it might be good but it also looks very safe, so I'm not sure if you'll hear anything you wouldn't hear by going to any random electro/tech/house night. This is the tracklisting:

1 Trentemoller - Beta Boy
2 Sharon Philips - Want 2 Need 2 (Trentemoller remix)
3 Ame, Derrick Carter And Friends - Where We At
4 Trevor Loveys - Legwarmer
5 Roysksopp - Only This Moment (Alan Braxe and Fred Falke Remix)
6 John Starlight - Shadowbreaker (Boys Noize Mix)
7 Smitty vs John Kelley Feat. Raya - Universal Love Vibration (Angel Alanis Mix)
8 Darkmountaingroup - Lose Control (Main Mix)
9 Peter Rauhofer - Believe In Me
10 Jon Carter Feat. Patra - How Do You Love? (JC's 06 Rerub)
11 Azzido Da Bass - Lonely By Your Side (Play Paul Inst. Mix)
12 Ramsay - Shake That Thing (Max Graham Throwdown Mix)
13 Christopher & Raphael Just - Popper (Shinichi Osawa Distortion Disco Edit)

As for Famous, I never have a problem with dancefloor crowds on the assumption that one doesn't feel physically threatened, and we can safely assume that won't be the case here! I can't really complain about haircut house types anyway b/c I basically look like a haircut house denizen who doesn't go to enough effort slash doesn't spend enough money on clothes.

Tim Finney (Tim Finney), Monday, 2 October 2006 01:13 (nineteen years ago)

haha! well that all seems like sound advice.

H2-H4 (H2-H4), Monday, 2 October 2006 02:21 (nineteen years ago)

I saw Carter at the Chinese Laundry earlier this year, it was a very tech-house set, anything else sped up to fit in, like Public Enemy acapellas or Tiga (multiples of both). about three hours in, he played an edit of Song 2 and then did 20-30 minutes of jump-up-and-down stuff, hip-hop/mashups/rock, then when it went back to the constant 4/4 my knees gave up. Listened to his 2001 Breezeblock again this week to try and tempt me into going again this month...

This seems like as good a thread as any in which to relay some news. Probably more suited to ILE, but at least this thread is more likely to attract the actually interested rather than be blatantly self-aggrandising.

Anyway, since I spend far too much time here it's probably a good idea for me to let you all know that I won't be around for a while, probably about a month.

After a month-just-gone of increasingly severe headaches, this week I was diagnosed with an impressively large, but hopefully benign, brain tumor lodged in my cerebellum behind my right ear.

I'm having this removed on Monday, in what will hopefully be a fairly straightforward operation - the tumor is fairly close to the skull so the surgery will be on the less invasive side of things.

All things being equal I can expect to be fully recovered in about two months. If worse scenarios move from faint possibility to unavoidable reality I will certainly let people know, but there doesn't appear to be any reason to panic at this stage - I've met with my neurosurgeon and the signs are all fairly good in this case.

I will be missing my pontification soap-box horribly I'm sure, not to mention all of you. Look after yourselves. Perhaps listen to music you suspect I would approve of.

Tim F, Saturday, 22 December 2007 18:37 (eighteen years ago)

Lol the two tracks I enjoyed the most from your best-of that you shared mid-year (I think?) are missing from your final list (“marry me maia” and “CDs”)

✖✖✖ (Moka), Thursday, 18 December 2025 02:49 (five months ago)

Yeah there’s only a little bit of overlap from prior playlists - this definitely isn’t comprehensive even as a personal taste barometer
