(1) Stoney End (1971) - surprisingly rich country (pedal steel) / soul (horns) / pop (tunes) set, much of it fantastic - check out Harry Nilsson's "Maybe", Randy Newman's "I'l Be Home", Carole King's "No Easy Way Down", plus Joni Mitchell, Gordon Lightfoot, Laura Nyro, Kurt Weill etc. Nice cover too.
(2) What's Up Doc? (1972) - Bogdanovich's screwball homage, still very much underrated - both Streisand and Ryan O'Neal (et al) very lovable and very funny.
Rest dud, natch.

I dated a guy a few years ago who played the album on which "Life On Mars?" is found; almost jumped out the window.

I know both she and Bowie hate her cover of "Life on Mars?" but I've been coming back to it over and over the last few weeks. Obviously I am broken.

never really listened to her before but "Evergreen" is pretty amazing during the climax. she goes back and forth between this awesome high intensity celine dion thing and this gorgeous melty mellifluous olivia newton john warmth, with grace and fluidity. Is Streisand at her best during the big moments like these? when she's just singing all regular and mellow it's pretty boring, but when she pulls out all the stops here it's really awesome.
