lol at all the argumentative nitpicking upthread from somebody calling themselves "no opinion"

Pilot's second album, can't look at this without imagining the designers spending all of five minutes coming up with that title/cover image, and then sloping off to the pub for the rest of the day

though it doesn't feature an actual pilot, so I guess it's more 'yawnsomely unimaginative/uninspired' than 'yawnsomely literal'

soref, Sunday, 23 February 2014 23:12 (ten years ago) link

ok the "autorip" kinda kills it

Mr. Snrub, Monday, 24 February 2014 05:02 (ten years ago) link

I think a lot of those are illustrating a visual pun on the title so not Yawnsomely Literal. Might have been thought of as quite imaginative at the time but got dulled by familiarity in the interval years.
Not like somebody's come along and generically botched something up as a bad advertising company might. Seems to be some thought put into what has been illustrated and how.
Also seems that a couple at least may have had the image in mind before naming.

Haha, thanks, so tired of reflections. Will leave follow-through to others w/more stamina. Subgenre also not represented: Image of the band but the writing is reflected.

the four corners are basically all the same emotion, and the bottom middle isn't really an emotion, it's just "looking away from camera"

Burt Stuntin (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 25 February 2014 01:38 (ten years ago) link

Ha, I'd never considered that before.

Well done! Rupert Holmes ftw, looks like a pretty full life he's lived in that circle. We started at the Itsukushima Shrine, baby, and look where we've ended up.

Doctor Casino, Monday, 11 August 2014 01:15 (nine years ago) link

ha. scrolling through i thought for half a second that it was a band called full circle with all kinds of inexplicable album titles.

Merdeyeux, Monday, 11 August 2014 01:19 (nine years ago) link

That band would have ruled! Like, each time they're trying to make up a really generic name for a different style of artist that might put out an album called "Full Circle."

Doctor Casino, Monday, 11 August 2014 01:34 (nine years ago) link

a lot of those albums can be summed up as "this is my first album in 20 years!" or "this is gonna be last album ever!" or "this is the album where I reflect upon my long and fruitful career." Rupert Holmes must have been an extraordinary human being in order to have gone full circle at age 34, just 2 years after his big hit.
