Guys I hate to break this to you but the record company is really not thinking two or three singles down the line on this one.
― Matt DC, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:17 (twelve years ago)
Is it because they're focusing on NTMT: B Sides pt.1? Available November 25, 2011 in the US.
― Cousin Slappy, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:22 (twelve years ago)
Aw, shucks...November 25, 2013
― Cousin Slappy, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:23 (twelve years ago)
lmfao ok fine 'singles' don't really apply to sky ferreira but she will probably film a lo-budget video for it somewhere down the line like she did for "lost in my bedroom" and "everything is embarrassing" (fun fact: the only song from her last ep that didn't get a music video was the title track)
― dyl, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:26 (twelve years ago)
i'm stunned by the mention of 'pt. 1' on that b-sides collection tbh since it implies at least one more part on its way
― dyl, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:27 (twelve years ago)
Well she's got a discography of released and unreleased material that alone could amount to maybe 2 full LPs excluding this one, so I'm not surprised that whatever sessions were behind this album potentially produced a ton of additional material.
― Greer, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:53 (twelve years ago)
She was great live, and the crowd really went nuts for her. The band setup was very rock, although they had some synth and sampled stuff, so the more rock-oriented album material worked really well -- "24 hours," "Heavy Metal Heart" and "Nobody Asked Me" all sounded great. "Lost In My Bedroom," which I love, didn't come across as well IMO. She didn't do "I Blame Myself." I was very impressed with how she sounded though.
― St3ve Go1db3rg, Sunday, 17 November 2013 18:54 (twelve years ago)
So wait, they're releasing a "B-sides part 1" disc but there's still no fucking CD of this? I know, I am hopelessly trapped in the 90s, but still, that's weird

I haaaate this album cover

Mostly bcz it makes me feel like anyone who sees it on my phone on the bus or in the coffee shop or w/e is going to think I a complete creep/pedo

Stage fright & vocal chord issues are by far the most annoying things I’ve ever had to deal with. #1 thing I’ve learned on this tour is alcohol doesn’t help you (by you, I mean me) be a better performer just because you feel numb for a bit. Self medicating is bullshit. Don’t let people pressure you into it so you can get the job done or whatever…In any situation. After it fades away you’re most likely going to feel worse than you did before. Anyways,my point is have fun. Don’t do shit because of anxiety/insecurity/depression. It doesn’t help or make any of those things go away. I’m telling you from experience. If anyone knows how to deal with stage fright HMU. This isn’t supposed to be preachy, just an observation I made about myself recently. xxxxSky

her show in DC at the 9:30 was incredible. early on, she apologized that she couldn't do "I Blame Myself" until her voice healed, but after lots of requests at the very end of the show, she soldiered through it, maybe not the best idea for a voice but a fucking incredible moment you'd never see from an older/jaded/grizzled performer, especially a pop star. i love the moment at 1:44. these crowds are the most enthusiastic she's ever gotten and it shows. it was an amazing show!

I love NTMT all the way through now, after seeing Boys and Ain't Your Right live. DEFINITELY agree on Lost in My Bedroom flopping live - ditch the old stuff! she did that, Everything is Embarrassing, and the entirety of NTMT I believe, except maybe Kristine, but everything else was played. it was all amazing! will totally see her again!
― i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Wednesday, 20 November 2013 19:30 (twelve years ago)
Kristine is my only sore point actually, the rest of the album is fantastic.
― Van Horn Street, Wednesday, 20 November 2013 20:27 (twelve years ago)
"kristine" is one of my favorites! i began to like it more once i could actually kind of figure out what she was singing in it
― dyl, Thursday, 21 November 2013 00:40 (twelve years ago)
"kristine" is a highlight for me too, just the opening guitar crunch is so hard
― lex pretend, Thursday, 21 November 2013 12:11 (twelve years ago)
So, OK, on the b-sides disc, is the version of "Everything Is Embarrassing" the original (superior) version, or the album version?
Probably gonna buy just for the Unknown Mortal Orchestra remix, but the answer to the above question will mean the difference between going out to get it right now and putting it on my Amazon wishlist or some shit
― Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Monday, 25 November 2013 20:10 (twelve years ago)
i got mine today -- it's the same version as on the ghost ep (the inferior version). would've been amazing if it were the orig vers but alas.
― dyl, Monday, 25 November 2013 21:17 (twelve years ago)
Wait is the version on the EP the original one or the album one? What's the other one, then?
― Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 25 November 2013 21:28 (twelve years ago)
What is the orig version I know nothing abt this
the original is the version that was used on the video
― Number None, Monday, 25 November 2013 21:28 (twelve years ago)
Oh I never even noticed that the video + the ep were different
― Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Monday, 25 November 2013 21:30 (twelve years ago)
Finally got this and "Omanko" is really doing it for me for whatever reason. It feels like a demo, the lyrics are almost a placeholder, but it comes together
― CAROUSEL! CAROUSEL! (Telephone thing), Monday, 25 November 2013 23:47 (twelve years ago)
That song is amazing. And it's going on my Christmas mix.
― Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 00:05 (twelve years ago)
is omanko about orgasms? something about it has always scanned as her encapsulating "the orgasm" into a song. rhythmic, raw, the self-satisfied breathy vocals, the frantic drums towards its climax.
― mums go off when i enter the building (monotony), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 00:15 (twelve years ago)
"Omanko" is apparently rude Japanese vernacular for ladybits, so, yeah, maybe? I'm working it into a (terrible!) mix right now; it sounds amazing slowed down just a little bit.
― CAROUSEL! CAROUSEL! (Telephone thing), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 02:12 (twelve years ago)
perhaps referencing 'turning japanese', though i'm not sure how xmas fits in
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 26 November 2013 03:05 (twelve years ago)
She says "I'm gearin' up for Japanese Christmas" like over and over
― Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 03:09 (twelve years ago)
i noticed... i meant how it relates to the masturbation theory
― karl...arlk...rlka...lkar..., Tuesday, 26 November 2013 03:13 (twelve years ago)
IIRC, Christmas in Japan is a big commercial event, sort of like Valentine's Day? I am very much not an expert though
― CAROUSEL! CAROUSEL! (Telephone thing), Tuesday, 26 November 2013 03:59 (twelve years ago)
She just killed it on Letterman.

new music video for title track: http://www.vevo.com/watch/sky-ferreira/night-time,-my-time/USUV71302652
― dyl, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 15:50 (twelve years ago)
The Letterman performance sounded good but it seems like a backing track mostly takes over the vocal on the chorus?
― St3ve Go1db3rg, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:21 (twelve years ago)
yeah well i mean there are harmonies in the chorus. idk why her backing band wouldn't sing them tho, unless they don't sing.
― dyl, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 16:59 (twelve years ago)
I think I can hear a faint harmony on the title phrase, but it's more the way the lead vocal sound totally changes in that whole section, like it's double tracked and very compressed (you can hear all the notes equally well), and it just doesn't sound live there where it does in the verses. I guess it could be just the way they're processing her vocal differently there, but it sounds odd to me. It doesn't offend me or anything, and I thought Sky's vocals sounded great when I saw her live, although "You're Not the One" did seem a bit rough, which is understandable because it's a difficult song to sing -- the vocals are very constant and full of long phrases. I just was a little surprised by what I was hearing in that clip as far as TV performances go, but maybe that's pretty normal?
― St3ve Go1db3rg, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:23 (twelve years ago)
ok, i see what you mean now. she has been inconsistent live in recent months (prob due to her stage fright and vocal injury) so maybe that was why they used the backing track for the chorus. she sounded good tho!
― dyl, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:35 (twelve years ago)
Yeah for sure, didn't mean to sound too harsh on her. I really enjoyed her live show.
― St3ve Go1db3rg, Tuesday, 26 November 2013 17:37 (twelve years ago)
it's def a backing track, just mixed too high
― i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Wednesday, 27 November 2013 01:55 (twelve years ago)
sounds awesome imo
isn't "Love In Stereo" just wonderful?
― KMFAO (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 29 November 2013 23:47 (twelve years ago)
like it sounds like a million other songs and in and of itself it's like okay enough I guess but when it pops up in the context of the album it's just like AWE OMG THIS IS SO CUTE AND FUN
― KMFAO (Stevie D(eux)), Friday, 29 November 2013 23:48 (twelve years ago)
i'm a big fan
― dyl, Saturday, 30 November 2013 00:53 (twelve years ago)
Can we make a list of songs that "Love in Stereo" is like a str8 rip of bcz I know there are literally dozens but I cannot think of a single one by title
― KMFAO (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 30 November 2013 01:49 (twelve years ago)
hm the guitars instantly remind me of "time after time" definitely
vocally tho i have trouble placing it
