and god, that vollenweider edit is sooo good. i always bring the 12" with that and the chris rea edit with me when i play out, but i never have the balls to play anything but the rea side

i listened to this without knowing anything about it and was surprised at how perfectly it was touching on all my favorite early 80s balearic touchstones... then i realized it was legit unreleased stuff from the '80s. so maybe not balearic "revival" per se

yeah apparently the one single they actually released (You Could Be More Who You Are) was a legit "early '80s balearic touchstone." that record is really great I think. been listening a ton on spotify but haven't come across the vinyl yet.

I would have slotted it under post-punk myself but can definitely see how it fits nicely into this sound.

yeah i mean there's definitely some postpunk in there, alongside a whole lot of sultry saxophone and beach sounds, post-punk can be balearic

just discovered that most (maybe all?) of pacific horizons' output is up on spotify, the new track "bandini" is kinda nice. their whole schtick is a lot more lo-fi than i realized, it works great at times but can kinda clash with some of the other, more relaxed sounds

maricopa - pastel love part two -- warm and gorgeous downtempo balearic synth-love
suzanne kraft - missum LP -- more ambient than his previous stuff, totally beautiful, works very well as an album
gigi masin - talk to the sea -- compilation on music from memory, anybody who follows the new age threads needs to be listening to this
rotla - laguna EP -- some perfect beach-drive balearic a la hatchback
almunia - xeni EP -- almunia work with the italo disco side of balearic rather than the light and airy guitar-work of their previous stuff, still great
