been playing "I Blame Myself" over and over and over and over and over and over and over

i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 16:53 (twelve years ago)

yep

dyl, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 17:00 (twelve years ago)

i do not like this record even a little bit anymore, aside from "you're not the one" and kinda sorta "i blame myself"

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 18:18 (twelve years ago)

Oh well.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 18:19 (twelve years ago)

I am in the exact same boat as Brad. Altho I semi-like Heavy Metal Heart and Aint Your Right too. Very weak overall, not the kind of sounds I was expecting or wanting. Sad cos Ur Knot Tha 1 is an unparalleled belter.

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 18:26 (twelve years ago)

I think "24 Hours" is the only weak link on here.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 19:04 (twelve years ago)

^ musically, it's def in my wheelhouse, but as a whole it seems really janky and trite.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 19:13 (twelve years ago)

For contrast: I think this is an album-of-the-year candidate.

glenn mcdonald, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 19:21 (twelve years ago)

I don't have many candidates, so this would be one of them.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 19:25 (twelve years ago)

Yeah this is up there for me, probably just behind the Goldfrapp album for album of the year.

Don't really think there is a weak link but Ain't Your Right is probably the only song I kind of forget about. My favourite song on here keeps changing but right now it's I Will.

yeah, if you look past the narrative of pop-starlet-goes-rebel, this is idk just a pretty standard idol-worship record... i mean which is fine. but it's way way way way more 'pastiche-y' than the other record to get called pastiche-y this year, haim.

乒乓, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 21:33 (twelve years ago)

rtc otm about the song lengths. like all of these songs are pretty short and yet still feel overextended

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 21:42 (twelve years ago)

title track is pointlessly hideous. "i will" successfully reconstructs the aesthetic of the bravery or the stills or something

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 21:42 (twelve years ago)

What? No. The title track is one of the best.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 21:51 (twelve years ago)

Is that the witch house sounding one?

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 21:55 (twelve years ago)

idk how you can perceive a song in all of that ~*~*~*~atmosphere~*~*~*~ #twinpeaks

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 21:57 (twelve years ago)

It makes more sense, like most things, when you're driving on the interstate late at night.

Johnny Fever, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 22:01 (twelve years ago)

i do like seeing brad go in on something he doesn't like. this almost never happens!

乒乓, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 22:01 (twelve years ago)

spottie too!

乒乓, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 22:02 (twelve years ago)

I dislike the title track too because she sounds better shouting over beats.

the objections to Drake from non-REAL HIPHOP people (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 5 November 2013 22:03 (twelve years ago)

"you're not the one" is still one of my least favorite sky singles and while it's fine it's not an album highlight for me. i do love this album tho.

dyl, Tuesday, 5 November 2013 22:06 (twelve years ago)

Itsthemiddleofthenite and I'm so GAAAAAWN!

Cousin Slappy, Sunday, 10 November 2013 09:31 (twelve years ago)

man she really can't get enough of twin peaks: fire walk with me, huh? I count six references on this album, starting with the title.

flesh, the devil, and a wolf (wolf) (amateurist), Sunday, 10 November 2013 11:49 (twelve years ago)

I've been listening to this a bunch over the past week and have decidedly mixed feelings about it. It is much more rockin' than I expected, which I enjoy, I like the sonics of the album overall. But I find myself getting worn down by her over-emphatic singing. Her vocals have a tendency to take the songs too far into the Emo zone when I'd prefer it if she went darker. She hits the nail on the head here and there, but mostly I just want her to tone it down a bit. The songs don't seem like they should be sung at the top of your lungs. They need a certain level of disconnection or aloofness to really work.

That being said, I'm clearly not the target demographic for this, so I may be way off base.

Ornate Coleman (Moodles), Sunday, 10 November 2013 15:38 (twelve years ago)

who is the target demographic for this?

call all destroyer, Sunday, 10 November 2013 16:17 (twelve years ago)

^ bingo

I haven't tended to that thread in a while, though.

Johnny Fever, Sunday, 10 November 2013 16:57 (twelve years ago)

Loving this album through and through.

>>I think "24 Hours" is the only weak link on here.

Noooooo. Might be my favorite track.

Also co-sign that "Love In Stereo" sounds a bit like The Blow, although it's less cerebral/dry in delivery.

Michael F Gill, Thursday, 14 November 2013 22:49 (twelve years ago)

I am digging this record. Also I just saw The Blow last weekend and tonight I'm seeing Sky in the same small room, I'm really curious what it's going to be like and pretty pumped to see it.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Saturday, 16 November 2013 01:46 (twelve years ago)

I am listening to this for the first time and oh my god "I Blame Myself" is SO FUCKING GOOD HOLY SHIT U GUYS

Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 16 November 2013 19:18 (twelve years ago)

Is this like the general consensus that it is the stand-out track? I'm surprised it's not a single!!

Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 16 November 2013 19:19 (twelve years ago)

I mean it is like "Dancing On My Own"-level catchy

Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 16 November 2013 19:20 (twelve years ago)

she didn't even play it live when i saw her a few weeks ago :(

monotony, Saturday, 16 November 2013 19:21 (twelve years ago)

That's so rude!

Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 16 November 2013 19:24 (twelve years ago)

We should poll ''You're Not The One'' vs Charli XCX's ''You're The One''.

Van Horn Street, Saturday, 16 November 2013 19:46 (twelve years ago)

According to her Facebook page vinyl copies are now available to order. It's the full cover apparently.

Kitchen Person, Sunday, 17 November 2013 02:50 (twelve years ago)

Oh and the vinyl is green! (I love that kind of stuff)

Kitchen Person, Sunday, 17 November 2013 02:56 (twelve years ago)

I watched videos of her on YouTube and she has the most excruciating stage presence

Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 17 November 2013 03:22 (twelve years ago)

It's like an over earnest 15yo singing karaoke

Homo schaduwkabinet (Stevie D(eux)), Sunday, 17 November 2013 03:23 (twelve years ago)

lol yes, i saw her live about a yr ago and she is v awkward

"i blame myself" is amazing and i would be shocked if it's not a single somewhere down the line

dyl, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:00 (twelve years ago)

Guys I hate to break this to you but the record company is really not thinking two or three singles down the line on this one.

Matt DC, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:17 (twelve years ago)

Is it because they're focusing on NTMT: B Sides pt.1? Available November 25, 2011 in the US.

Cousin Slappy, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:22 (twelve years ago)

Aw, shucks...November 25, 2013

Cousin Slappy, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:23 (twelve years ago)

lmfao ok fine 'singles' don't really apply to sky ferreira but she will probably film a lo-budget video for it somewhere down the line like she did for "lost in my bedroom" and "everything is embarrassing" (fun fact: the only song from her last ep that didn't get a music video was the title track)

dyl, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:26 (twelve years ago)

i'm stunned by the mention of 'pt. 1' on that b-sides collection tbh since it implies at least one more part on its way

dyl, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:27 (twelve years ago)

Well she's got a discography of released and unreleased material that alone could amount to maybe 2 full LPs excluding this one, so I'm not surprised that whatever sessions were behind this album potentially produced a ton of additional material.

Greer, Sunday, 17 November 2013 04:53 (twelve years ago)

She was great live, and the crowd really went nuts for her. The band setup was very rock, although they had some synth and sampled stuff, so the more rock-oriented album material worked really well -- "24 hours," "Heavy Metal Heart" and "Nobody Asked Me" all sounded great. "Lost In My Bedroom," which I love, didn't come across as well IMO. She didn't do "I Blame Myself." I was very impressed with how she sounded though.

St3ve Go1db3rg, Sunday, 17 November 2013 18:54 (twelve years ago)

So wait, they're releasing a "B-sides part 1" disc but there's still no fucking CD of this? I know, I am hopelessly trapped in the 90s, but still, that's weird
