I took my little girl to the library the other day and she picked out a Neil Gaiman book called Blueberry Girl . We sat down in the reading corner so I could read it to her. It turned out to be not really a very interesting book at all for a three year old and sort of more directed at the parent reading it. Like, we're following the Blueberry Girl as she ages, like" this is the blueberry girl when she's 36. She's seen her share of hard knocks" or some such bullshit. o I stoppad reading it and we just looked at the pictures, which were not by Mr. Gaiman but were lots of fun to look at and what attracted her to the book in the first place.

Here is some of the text

...Dull days at forty, false friends at fifteen;

Ladies of Grace, and Ladies of Favour,

This is a prayer for a Blueberry Girl,

age range for that book is 4-8 so give it a year

haven't read it, but picked up a copy the other day. art is splendid, by j.h. williams iii, who couldn't draw a bad page to save his life.

Enjoyed his children's book 'Chu's Day', about a panda with town-flattening sneezes, which we got for our daughter. Most of the good stuff is in the art, but still...

Palmer: "First off: neither neil nor I were strangers to haters when we met each other. from the first outing of the dresden dolls in 2000 (my first band, which was just me and one other guy) in boston, i was confronted with the amazing phenomenon that is People Who Love To Spend Their Time Hating & Criticizing Artists.

"And honestly … the more i do it and learn about this part of the universe, the more i approach the haters and yellers with compassion. the more i look, the more hurt i see, and the less i feel like yelling back. from where i'm standing, the ones screaming the loudest probably need the biggest hugs."

Gaiman: "I had run into nasty people on the web before I married Amanda, but marrying her opened the door on a whole new level of unpleasantness. It was like lifting up a rock and seeing what squirms underneath. And then slowly I started to realise that an awful lot of the nastiest haters appeared to be one person cutting and pasting away, and industriously spending every evening googling my name and Amanda's and posting strangely unpleasant dispatches from an alternate universe. And then I felt very sorry for that person, because it doesn't seem like much of a life."

i was talking with a friend who worked a large free live show ap played over the summer and she said it was by far the most memorable thing she saw all season, not for the artistry but for the audience. apparently there were numerous instances of people taking their clothes off and security had to determine how best to handle.

I'm a little surprised she hasn't record a ukulele cover of Sarah Silverman's tune and called it "I'm Fucking Neil Gaiman"

The Question and Answer segment of the evening, a tradition at “Evening with” performances, was cut shorter than usual due to the raft of special guests, but produced some amusing and quite personal results from Gaiman and Palmer. When Palmer was asked if she wakes up in the morning and thinks, “Holy Shit, I’m married to Neil Gaiman”, she said that coming from a different field than Gaiman meant that she sees him differently, thankfully, and isn’t as burdened by the weight of his popularity or career. She didn’t think he was a “big deal” when she met him, and has tried to hold onto that. That has “saved my ass”, she said. She doesn’t say to herself, she added, “Oh my God, I’m fucking Neil Gaiman”. At which point, Gaiman interjected and said, “That wasn’t the question”. This produced, of course, plenty of hilarity, and gave Palmer the idea of taking Sara Silverman’s song, “I’m Fucking Matt Damon”, and rephrasing it with Gaiman’s name. She promised she would do it “tomorrow” and spread it around.
