her look in the music video and the album cover are deliberate parts of the album's presentation/promotion, while the drug arrest, which we still know fairly little about, is... not.

dyl, Thursday, 10 October 2013 19:10 (twelve years ago)

i don't feel like the video or album art are out-of-character or surprising (not because of the drug arrest but because of her entire aesthetic up til now)

lex pretend, Thursday, 10 October 2013 19:25 (twelve years ago)

Did we ever learn what a "deck" of heroin is?

Johnny Fever, Thursday, 10 October 2013 19:43 (twelve years ago)

2013, the year of "upsetting."

MikoMcha, Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:12 (twelve years ago)

Enough heroin to put a Weber grill on.

festival culture (Jordan), Thursday, 10 October 2013 20:24 (twelve years ago)

lex otm, sky has been the embodiment of coked-out chic for ages now

monotony, Thursday, 10 October 2013 21:42 (twelve years ago)

i have high hopes for this album.

Treeship, Wednesday, 16 October 2013 02:54 (twelve years ago)

this album is pretty dark

back to back songs go "nobody asked me if i was okay" and "i blame myself for my reputation"

reminder that sky ferreira was on the new g-dragon album and the song was very 'sky ferreira'

乒乓, Monday, 21 October 2013 14:20 (twelve years ago)

xpost ooh i am glad it exists tho, even with a release date and tracklisting and cover art and all i am still sceptical that this album will come out

sonically what amongst her past work does it most resemble? it's hard to get a hold on where she's at atm, given that all of the songs on ghost were so different stylistically from one another

monotony, Monday, 21 October 2013 20:23 (twelve years ago)

heard a few tracks from this, very very promising.

I make $94k Based God (rennavate), Monday, 21 October 2013 23:07 (twelve years ago)

Album is out. I've only listened to the iTunes clips and nothing's really blown my mind. I think "You're Not The One" is the best track (which is OK cause it's a good song, but a little disappointing).

daavid, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 04:20 (twelve years ago)

idk Ive listened to that song about 40 times in the last week. it's kinda special

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 04:23 (twelve years ago)

listening to this for the first time after downloading it from itunes. "Boys" is pretty good. i like the heaviness of it a lot.

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 04:30 (twelve years ago)

itunes censored the album cover which isn't a big deal except she is pretty touchy about larger forces messing with her shit. if i was itunes i would have backed off and let her do what she wanted.

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 04:31 (twelve years ago)

why has no one posted nabisco's article about her

Geoffrey Schweppes (jaymc), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 04:35 (twelve years ago)

lol itunes backing off

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 04:36 (twelve years ago)

nabisco's article is great

i just finished my first listen and i... have mixed feelings? i am def compelled to listen more tho

dyl, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 04:48 (twelve years ago)

so far i am in love with this but i can't trust myself, because everything i've listened to tonight has sounded amazing. is there a thread about that kind of mood?

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 05:05 (twelve years ago)

thumbs up imo

didnt find it partic dark, nor beyond 'you're not the one' did i srsly feel the teen rock pathos in my bones or anything, just damn good cherry pie basically

within a fortnight i will probably be appropriately semi-bored about it

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 08:19 (twelve years ago)

i guess the earnestness of her lifelong struggle to make this super quotidian post-teen angst record is fairly disarming, like ordinarily i might have just thrown it in the haim bonfire if it was anyone fresh n cute up in my grill

anyone really buying into the personal narrative here is a halfwit or at worst a creep though, this record is from the saturday girl behind the topshop till serving sky's stylist more so than she herself

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 08:41 (twelve years ago)

case in point, 'nobody asked me (if i was okay)' is way way way better once you get past the butthurt reading and instead pick up the triumphant vibe like it was a less eloquent/mordant 'ain't it fun', which it is

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 08:55 (twelve years ago)

compared to "you're not the one" the rest of this seems like half-composed synth pop

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 13:39 (twelve years ago)

I really liked "Everything is Embarrassing" but the 'RIYL Haim, Lorde, Salem's TMZ tendencies' appeal of all of this sorta makes me wanna wretch

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 14:06 (twelve years ago)

*retch

Jimmywine Dyspeptic, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 14:07 (twelve years ago)

"i blame myself" is so good

dyl, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:02 (twelve years ago)

They put together some of these tracks very quickly, so "half-composed" and "under-composed" are definitely ... potential drawbacks. But part of what I like about the album is the way it can accommodate those loose, unfussy tracks -- songs like "Kristine," the ones that feel like they're just delighted to be able to hang around in their happy private space making noise and cooing to themselves.

i guess the earnestness of her lifelong struggle to make this super quotidian post-teen angst record is fairly disarming

The thing I find interesting about the whole narrative behind her isn't some cheerleading "girl against the industry" thing -- it's that she winds up with an experience that connects so perfectly with certain types of quotidian teen angst! I mean: feeling controlled, feeling like nobody takes you seriously, feeling like your peers all gossip about you, having people think your boyfriend may be bad news ... it's like central-casting young-person issues blown up to IMAX scale, or at least Sofia Coppola film scale. And she seems very young and self-dramatizing about it in a way that's considered uncool and messy for people in the public eye, but gives the music a lot more passion, I think.

ንፁህ አበበ (nabisco), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:07 (twelve years ago)

yeah that's what i said

But part of what I like about the album is the way it can accommodate those loose, unfussy tracks

yeah what i said wasn't necessarily a... criticism.

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:26 (twelve years ago)

it is a v pleasant synth pop album, parts of which seem intentionally broken

emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:27 (twelve years ago)

this witchhouse synthpop biz is being overstated a tad i think, doesnt it really just sound like hole or whatever (nb i have never heard a hole album)

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:33 (twelve years ago)

sounds right up my alley, then. looking forward to this xp

乒乓, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:33 (twelve years ago)

sounds like kim wilde except when it sounds like pink except when it sounds like spacemen 3, p good album

adam, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:37 (twelve years ago)

ya otm

r|t|c, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:39 (twelve years ago)

i'm waiting for it to get dark or gloomy outside before playing this

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:45 (twelve years ago)

don't feel like the sunshine would enhance it

another...15 minutes should do it

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:46 (twelve years ago)

The weirdest resemblance on this is how much "Love in Stereo" sounds like the Blow, to the point where I initially thought it might be a co-write / co-vocal

ንፁህ አበበ (nabisco), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:48 (twelve years ago)

Also this "music" she creates "blows*."

*chunks

you are kind, I am (waterface), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 16:52 (twelve years ago)

She’s pale and chic, with choppy dyed-blonde hair and sullen glowering eyes, and just overall seems like she should be smoking a cigarette behind the gym of a high school circa 1994.

lol

i also enjoy in line skateing (spazzmatazz), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 17:56 (twelve years ago)

second half seems stronger on first listen, digging the whole thing though...

LOVE THIS ALBUM

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:28 (twelve years ago)

so sullen <33333

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:28 (twelve years ago)

really great and interesting piece n1tsuh too!

aahhhhh which 90s grunge girl is she reminding me of? it's not QUITE courtney, there's more ennui than rip-your-throat-out rage. there's definitely someone though

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:29 (twelve years ago)

or is it more latter-day people like the raveonettes?

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:32 (twelve years ago)

i love "everything is embarrassing" but i'm so glad it was a red herring

lex pretend, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 19:33 (twelve years ago)

I'm liking the aesthetic here, I've never paid much attention before but it's like she's taking generic Austra-like gothy synthpop and slathering it with grunge surliness.

Matt DC, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 20:00 (twelve years ago)

bubblegrunge, that was a thing right
