Not sure if I'm really so into Nancy Whang's vocals these days...
― MikoMcha, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 12:21 (twelve years ago)
Especially since there's been so much great vocal house and pop dance music this year.
― MikoMcha, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 12:22 (twelve years ago)
Yeah I'm not a fan of her voice at all, I actively dislike the Classixx song she appears on. She works well on Happy House because it's largely confined to soundbites that enhance the rest of the track ("you are so excellent", "launch meeee intooo spaaaaace") but most of her more song-based appearances don't really work for me.
That said, Tonight is probably my favourite Juan Mclean song, although she's heavily treated on that.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 13:58 (twelve years ago)
I'm so into her voice voice. I could listen to an album of Nancy Whang. The Classixx song wasn't really great imo. I think the lyrics to this one are pretty wack, but it's enjoyable listening.
― how's life, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 14:17 (twelve years ago)
Sorry. I got the Classixx song "All You're Waiting For" confused with Juan Maclean's "You Are My Destiny".
― how's life, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 14:22 (twelve years ago)
I like the Classixx joint and the other Juan track from this year a lot, not sure about this one. But I would be so down with a Nancy Whang album.
― The Reverend, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 16:26 (twelve years ago)
I like this a lot - the early 90s piano house vibe is awesome. Reminds me of Edward's World's "Soul Roots".
― Tim F, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 16:38 (twelve years ago)
Good, good stuff.
― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 16:53 (twelve years ago)

would LOVE a nancy whang album
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 17:03 (twelve years ago)
melody's too infantile or something. prefer "all you're waiting for"
― flopson, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 17:39 (twelve years ago)
love everything I've got of these guys, but find sorting through house music in general tiresome and bewildering. did not like the Studio stuff I heard. what else is out there that's like this?
― How dare you tarnish the reputation of Turturro's yodel (Shakey Mo Collier), Friday, 31 January 2014 17:48 (twelve years ago)
a) we don't know what you've got of these guysb) Studio are not house musicc) we don't know what you've heard of Studio
it would be fun to answer your question otherwise!
― (D1CK$) (sic), Friday, 31 January 2014 23:35 (twelve years ago)
I heard West Coast and was bored by it. I have Less Than Human, the Future Will Come, Feel So Good DJ Kicks, By the Time I Get to Venus and some other 12" I can't remember right now

Are you a fan of DFA acts in general?
― Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Saturday, 1 February 2014 00:23 (twelve years ago)
Well I like LCD Soundsystem. Never listened to hot chip or their other acts.

also this is amazing
― boxedjoy, Wednesday, 25 June 2014 19:16 (eleven years ago)
i'm in love with this song. it combines a bunch of my favorite sounds right now... menacing EBM pulse, gritty/down and out guitars, mystic space vibes, sickly sweet synthpop, and it's fucking pretentious and bombastic. amazing.

I tried to keep it to songs she sings more than just back up vocals on so lots of LCD stuff was left off. It's not meant to be a comprehensive list of appearances.

can we get this thread locked so ppl only use the correctly-spelled one?
― dave matthews' gland (sic), Tuesday, 9 September 2014 14:28 (eleven years ago)
Is there a particular "The Juan Maclean" thread that has been serving as an all-purpose catch-all thread?
― how's life, Tuesday, 9 September 2014 14:40 (eleven years ago)
Because otherwise, I'll probably just go ahead and correct the spelling in this thread's title.
Yes please do!(Most tJM action is here: Happy House - the Juan Maclean but a dedicated artist thread would be great imo)
― willem, Tuesday, 9 September 2014 14:45 (eleven years ago)
Holy shit, I really love the new album.
― Herbie Handcock (Murgatroid), Thursday, 11 September 2014 05:30 (eleven years ago)
Release is next week? I've had it on order for ages it seems, hopefully there'll be a download link in the mail soon
― willem, Thursday, 11 September 2014 09:44 (eleven years ago)
The release is supposed to be next week but Amazon now have it listed as coming out on October 7th. Hope that's not the case. I ordered it ages ago too.

He actually messaged HOt M3ss before the pandemic asking to play and we were talking to him about it. I'm not quite sure he realised it was a 150 person capacity club though!
― Heavy Messages (jed_), Thursday, 20 May 2021 23:21 (five years ago)
I still managed to miss that
unreleased joint [by Juan Maclean (Master DJ & Producer)] opening his "chuggy and druggy" set on Beats In Space this week
got released in the pando as well:
Jun 2020: Are We Still Dreaming? one 12-in left for sale / soundcloud or that he had another collabo duo:
Jul 2019: Longlost - Take 8
He also did a 2-hour "Psychedelic House, Techno and Ambient" radio mix to launch Ritual Device, which looks like it might now be a monthly thing:
Ritual Device with Juan MacLean @ The Lot Radio 03 - 29 - 2021
Ritual Device with Juan MacLean @ The Lot Radio 04 - 26 - 2021
