Sounds fun tbh

i suggest you guys enjoy instead the creative decisions that JT is making in service of bud light platinum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ZN8QMvuPas
this is... better-ish on second listen. j0rd is right, the first track is very nice. "true blood" is an unholy mess and might live up to djp's expectations
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:06 (twelve years ago)
wow @ being moved to willingly give this a second listen (you have to do it for work right?)
― lex pretend, Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:09 (twelve years ago)
lol i wish
mostly baffled and trying to figure out why anyone would think these songs were worth releasing
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:12 (twelve years ago)
there's one song – one! – less than five minutes long.
― first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:12 (twelve years ago)
and it has drake on it

― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:23 (twelve years ago)
"amnesia" is very good and it takes an undue amount of effort to get there
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:45 (twelve years ago)
I forget about "Amnesia" while it's on.
― first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:45 (twelve years ago)
well that's true of most of the songs here
― emo canon in twee major (BradNelson), Wednesday, 25 September 2013 15:46 (twelve years ago)
what does "not a bad thing" remind me of? garbielle's "dreams"? "you gotta be"?

i feel like you can hear decent bits of good songwriting in most of these songs, but conceptually it's all so embarrassing
― J0rdan S., Monday, 30 September 2013 19:47 (twelve years ago)
"not a bad thing" is prob the best one, reminds me of the ends of janet's 90s albums
― J0rdan S., Monday, 30 September 2013 20:08 (twelve years ago)
everyone overplayed their hand the first time around... all the handwringing about the length of the first 20/20 should've been saved for the one where the final 3 songs take 25 minutes
― J0rdan S., Monday, 30 September 2013 20:10 (twelve years ago)
(as opposed to the one where the final three songs take 22 minutes)
― J0rdan S., Monday, 30 September 2013 20:11 (twelve years ago)
Yeah, everyone's kicking themselves over that one.

One of the first reviews:
"Take Back the Night," the disc's handsome but inert lead single, is an exception. And, as on Part 1, some songs go on for too long — including "Amnesia," whose beginning you may well have forgotten by the time you finally get to the end.
But those longueurs are offset by "Drink You Away," a potent electro-blues cut, and by Drake's frisky guest verse in "Cabaret," where the rapper takes the sex talk to a level that Timberlake the boy-band veteran still can't. (Jay Z appears on "2 of 2" as well, musing on Yoko Ono's feminine wiles in "Murder.")
Beyond the muscle-flexing it seems to represent, Timberlake's bluster might be his solution to the problem of Robin Thicke, whose ascent over the summer with the proudly raunchy "Blurred Lines" threatened to make Timberlake look like a genteel (pocket) square.
"I burn it down all the way," he yowls in "Only When I Walk Away," doing his best to start a fire. "Burn it down till there ain't no more."

Drake's frisky guest verse in "Cabaret," where the rapper takes the sex talk to a level that Timberlake the boy-band veteran still can't.
is this a promise or a threat
― da croupier, Monday, 30 September 2013 23:18 (twelve years ago)
his bluster will handle the rest!

Take Back The Night and Gimme What I Don't Know are as good as some of the best from Volume 1 IMO. it still has it's moments despite a lot of left-over Timbaland going on.
― piscesx, Monday, 11 November 2013 12:19 (twelve years ago)
and I've got a soft spot for the first six minutes of "Not a Bad Thing."
― the objections to Drake from non-REAL HIPHOP people (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 11 November 2013 12:26 (twelve years ago)
yeah that's a winner.
― piscesx, Monday, 11 November 2013 13:17 (twelve years ago)
is "TKO" a legit hit now? sorta seems like it
― J0rdan S., Monday, 11 November 2013 15:52 (twelve years ago)
Why is it the worst Timberlake songs become the hits?
― midnight outdoor nude frolic up north goes south (Eric H.), Monday, 11 November 2013 17:12 (twelve years ago)
i don't get the sense "TKO" is any more of a hit than the bare minimum any Justin single would be.
the GQ story is pretty entertaining, sounds like they caught him on a bad day: http://www.gq.com/moty/2013/justin-timberlake-men-of-the-year-hashtag
― some dude, Friday, 22 November 2013 04:11 (twelve years ago)
doesn't seem like much of a hit to me, but i guess it is hard to judge when you change the station every time it's on the radio. it's selling more on the level of "take back the night" than "suit and tie" or "mirrors" tho.
― dyl, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:19 (twelve years ago)
The fact that he's touring next summer makes me fearful for how many singles he's going to wring out of the damp rag that is 2 Of 2
― some dude, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:42 (twelve years ago)
well so far he's 0/2 on even making the top 20 with one
― da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:43 (twelve years ago)
maybe that video of him nonchalantly being dragged through the desert at dusk will change everything
that seven minute video
yeah this guy is touring for infinity isn't he
― le goon (J0rdan S.), Friday, 22 November 2013 19:47 (twelve years ago)
that last vmas where they kissed his ass for 15-30m is looking less like a "still got it!" and more like a "congratulations for having it for so long" esp when off that GQ it sounds like he's more "screw you guys i'm going home" and less "Well i guess i should meet this benny blanco guy about a comeback"
― da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:50 (twelve years ago)
"if you don't wanna hear me whinny over my friend hiccuping for seven minutes then i guess we're done here"
― da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 19:51 (twelve years ago)
so JT went from Like A Prayer to MDMA in two albums.

― Evan R, Friday, 22 November 2013 20:03 (twelve years ago)
it was just too soon for "yet more futuresex/lovesounds 3 of 1"
― da croupier, Friday, 22 November 2013 20:04 (twelve years ago)
he's already said interviews that he gets more out of making people laugh than rocking the crowd so i guess there's nothing driving him to get out of neutral, either to sell out or go crazy musically
