surprised at how much i hate this stuff tbh! vocals seem particularly awful?

v weak vocals but i guess thats the appeal to some?

feel like i like other similar indie dance stuff with weak vocals like YACHT or whatever... mb that's more deadpan or something

Solid album but the first thing I ever heard by this lot was The Mother Will Share and there's nothing to touch it. Haim they are not.

i felt the same way about "gun" at first but it's now apparent to me that "night sky" is the best thing on here

The mother we share is great. The vocals are rough but every time I hear a bit of her scottish accent in it all is forgiven.

I like "The Mother We Share", but it was "Lies" that really grabbed me initially. I wouldn't claim that every song on the album is of equal intensity or immediacy, but I think it's a great debut by a really promising band. Frightened Rabbits + Robyn, or a post-indie version of Berlin, or something. The hype, such as it is, is absolutely fine with me.

It seems like just about everyone on this thread has a different favorite song, despite the album basically operating in the same tiny box all the way through. Mine's still Recover.

They were pretty great last week btw and one of my favorite songs was one one of the dudes sang. He was a crazy dancer. Everyone at the show was like 12.

OK maybe like 20 but man it was a YOUNG crowd which is not surprising at all it was just something I noticed.

Just went from liking this band to loving this band.

It's heart-sinking that this is part of the job of a woman in a band now. Obviously sexism isn't new but the task of combing through social media interactions every day, knowing that it will contain shit like that, is.

can't wrap my head around the fact that this band is so under-appreciated here. not that they're great or anything but we share our mother and gun are eprfect pop songs.

i like the album a lot but - and i assume i am in the minority here - i feel like Purity Ring does it better.

Recover is my favorite jam (tho Mother is great), and i don't mind when the dude sings.

Need to listen to the album more. Mother and Lies have made the final cut onto my 'drivetime classix' cds i.e. ones to belt out in the car

On paper this Knife-aping vaguely indie pop is designed for me but I just can't get into them, and I'm a fan of Nikki And The Dove.

this album is very hit-or-miss for me but I'm digging parts of it more than I thought I would.

Finally got around to this album a few weeks ago and I love it. A lot of people I know really don't like it, and they're fans of The Knife/Grimes/Purity Ring/et al.

I don't understand the hate they get, as Chvrches seems to fit in perfectly with all the other recent "synthpop" bands that are out now. Maybe it's because they're a little less "dark", or because they're slightly reminiscent of Bis in places (another band I loved but everybody else hated)?

Shinoda was on Real Time with Bill Maher a couple weeks back, and Bill was lavishing him with praises like "rock legend" and shit like that. I choose to believe Bill was reciting from a press release. Some right wing dickwad who was also a guest on the show was genuinely excited to be sharing the stage with Shinoda too, but that's less suspect.

Also, it wasn't until these two incidents that I even knew the name of the guy from Linkin Park.

This year is the 10th anniversary of the first CHVRCHES album. I met Iain and Martin when I was 23 — a little baby of a person, in hindsight. Looking back on what we’ve achieved together, so much of it doesn’t feel real or even possible. Thank you to every person who has been a part of that.

I am so proud of all the chapters our band has been able to have and I am so grateful to my bandmates for taking me on that journey with them. We are all confident that the CHVRCHES story has many more pages yet to be written.

For now, though, I am excited / terrified / bewildered to tell you that I have been working on my first ever solo music and will be able to start sharing it soon.

For a long time, I couldn’t imagine ever doing anything outside of CHVRCHES. Since I was 15 years old, I have always, only, ever been in a band. I always wanted so badly to belong somewhere — to be one of the boys, and to fit in. But as I sail / stumble through this era of my life (your 20s really do go by in a flash, kids), it has started to feel like there are things I want to write and say and do that need to be done on my own.

Thank you for being kind to us and for giving me the opportunity to do this. The first headline shows are now announced and on sale at 10am local tomorrow in the US and Monday in Europe. I guess here we fucking go?!

Seeing her in Boston tonight, and enjoying the fact that I really don't know what to expect.

oooh so im assuming the rest of her solo stuff is good? if the album is anywhere near as wonderful as "Are You Awake?" then this could really be something. I've been playing that track over and over.

i listened to some live recordings and the main reference points are 80s madonna (she's even covering "like a prayer") and pretty hate machine (surprisingly enough), it all sounds pretty good

In concert, at least, the other songs were all much more upbeat than "Are You Awake?"

Not sure it's a completely successful album, but I was surprised how fun (and 90s!) it is compared with Chvrches. Some of her sharpest lyrics to date. The Greg Kurstin-produced "Sunday Best" is the clear standout to me
