still can't understand people who prefer Isn't Anything... maybe since I came to both albums after the fact, given that I was only partially conscious and perhaps not even self-aware when either came out

global tetrahedron, Sunday, 15 September 2013 21:06 (twelve years ago)

I do prefer Isn't Anything. It is hotter and steamier. As well as the eps of the same era it stinks of sweat and sex. Obv. Loveless is great too but IA was the first one I fell for.

kraudive, Sunday, 15 September 2013 23:06 (twelve years ago)

ew, what second hand shops are you buying these albums from, dude
*sniff* someone's been fuckin on this here CD. shopkeep, where can i find more like this?

> Also "rape" is probably not the best word to use for having to pay an extra $11 for a concert ticket

I just noticed this. I was using the voice-to-text on my cell. It should have been raked. With a k.

So when is this thing coming to iTunes?

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Thursday, 3 October 2013 16:22 (twelve years ago)

about to buy the digital album for my ipod. can the "16bit 44.1 K WAV" format be played on an ipod, without having to do a special conversion process?

Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 5 October 2013 23:13 (twelve years ago)

Yes, but it won't have any tags.

i can't stop listening to "in another way"

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 05:13 (twelve years ago)

I finally just bought this through their site. Can't tell if the sound is terrible, or if its just my laptop speakers.

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 27 October 2013 11:23 (twelve years ago)

xp "In Another Way" is definitely my favorite track. It feels like the one that most embodies the unique strengths of this album: hypnotic repetition, off-kilter melody, a more optimistic (maybe?) vibe than any of their previous work.

zchyrs, Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:13 (twelve years ago)

Listening to it now; it's like perpetually cresting a hill without getting over it, especially the refrain with the (awesome sounding) hard-panned guitar drones & synth.

zchyrs, Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:17 (twelve years ago)

"nothing is" rules, too.

zchyrs, Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:22 (twelve years ago)

Why would anyone listen to anything, let alone this, through laptop speakers?

Laptop speakers are better than they used to be. Respectable option for broke ppl

i'm seeing them live two saturdays from now. i hope they play "in another way" but looking at their recent setlists it seems unlikely.

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:30 (twelve years ago)

for me, when it comes to comeback album (esp. 22 years) im expecting absolute shit. so its lovely to be surprised with not only an album thats decent but an album thats got a few tunes that are up there with the best of their stuff.

subaltern 8 (Michael B), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:34 (twelve years ago)

most of this was recorded in like 1995 though iirc, so in that way it makes sense that a lot of it seems similar in quality to loveless

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)

Is that confirmed tho? I just kinda assumed most of that stuff from 20 years ago was rerecorded or evolved into something way different

Stevie D(eux), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:41 (twelve years ago)

most of the stuff i've read about the recording is inconclusive. i know that the first track is the only one that was totally recorded after 2012, and i am pretty sure most of the other ones at least contain elements that were recorded before the band's breakup in 2007, in some cases way before then.

naw

this is a boring thing to post but i have to sell my ticket for seeing them play montreal, please hit up a schlump if you need my ilx-discounted ticket for this event

schlump, Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:55 (twelve years ago)

i mean its obvious that some tracks are written soon after loveless or around that time (HELLO DRUM N' BASS INFLUENCE), but it doesnt really matter when you listen to the album tbh

subaltern 8 (Michael B), Sunday, 27 October 2013 20:19 (twelve years ago)

i used to listen to a JAMC bootleg i had through an 8os datacorder cos that's how it sounded best.

OutdoorFish, Monday, 28 October 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)

Am I making this up or do they supply earplugs at their shows? I'm going to see them on Sunday w/ a friend who has no earplugs and will probably forget to buy any.

disgruntled punter (Je55e), Monday, 28 October 2013 21:15 (twelve years ago)

they were handing out earplugs when I saw them in Denver and I've heard that they did the same elsewhere. and earplugs are absolutely necessary.

fffv, Monday, 28 October 2013 22:50 (twelve years ago)

with earplugs does the volume level still seem crazy? i've never worn earplugs to a gig before but i bought a pair for this show. i am thinking they are really loud but the talk of people vomiting due to the volume and stuff like that is a lot of hype.

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Monday, 28 October 2013 23:07 (twelve years ago)

people vomited? wow, that seems a little extreme

you should be fine if you have earplugs. worth taking them out for a few seconds, at least, during YMMR to experience the craziness uninhibited.

monotony, Monday, 28 October 2013 23:15 (twelve years ago)

also, i saw them twice earlier this year and there were earplugs on both occasions provided.

monotony, Monday, 28 October 2013 23:16 (twelve years ago)

i got these. hope they are enough. http://www.amazon.com/Etymotic-Research-ETY-Plugs-Protection-Earplugs/dp/B0044DEESS/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1383002266&sr=8-2&keywords=earplugs

(emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Monday, 28 October 2013 23:18 (twelve years ago)

You will be pretty fine with those unless you are standing right next to the PA. The best 'budget' earplugs around, miles better than foam things.

Chewshabadoo, Monday, 28 October 2013 23:32 (twelve years ago)

During the soundcheck at a Coachella warm-up show several years back, one of the venue staff suffered a seizure and paramedics were summoned. Those of us in line took it as a sign that the show was going to be pretty special.

Elvis Telecom, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 01:19 (twelve years ago)

I have fond memories of three electric fans and finally two roadie-waved cardboard sheets trying to calm down a self-immolating Vox AC30 from Kevin's rig at the Melbourne ATP this year.

MatthewK, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 02:58 (twelve years ago)

not trying to sound hard here but when I saw them this summer I didn't need earplugs. although maybe that's cos my hearing is fucked anyway

my father will guide me up the stairs to bed (anagram), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 08:50 (twelve years ago)

what you say?

OutdoorFish, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 11:13 (twelve years ago)

When I saw them in Denver this summer it honestly sounded better with earplugs. It also didn't seem that loud when they started, but trust me, it's loud. I think they either increased the volume gradually throughout the show or just the lack of dynamics/constant volume might have added up to almost physically exhausting me and my ears. Also, my sternum felt like it was rattling around in my ribcage during the holocaust section and afterwards.

global tetrahedron, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 14:09 (twelve years ago)

stoked for the madness

ᶓ͠סּᴥ͠סּᶔ ᶓͼ᷆ₓͼ᷇ᶔ (gr8080), Tuesday, 29 October 2013 14:26 (twelve years ago)

they def slowly cranked the volume last time i saw em, the last three songs were v v loud.

i tend to alternate earplugs/no earplugs at noise shows. any tickling sensation and i'll put plugs in. it's fun to move about the venue a bit, this seems to be especially true with MBV, sounds quite different depending on where you're standing.

Crackle Box, Tuesday, 29 October 2013 15:26 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, they cranked the volume slowly when we saw them. By YMMR it was really quite amazing.
