I'm out and about but was able to buy 2 tickets using the Ticketmaster app on my phone. Cost a shade more than a hundred bucks after being raped by the usual fees.

Yeah it's $11 on each $37 ticket and fuck that noise
Also "rape" is probably not the best word to use for having to pay an extra $11 for a concert ticket

they are playing the worst venue in the Twin Cities, Roy Wilkins. It's like going to a concert in a basketball court. Oh well, I'm going... Ogden show was so goddamn stellar

About the Mercury prize thing, wasn't In Rainbows nominated? That didn't have a proper deal and distribution or whatever.

Life has kept me away. I was sick and when I recovered and returned home, RipVanWinkle-like, I discovered there was a new album. Like finding a puppy under your Christmas tree. Also I was sure it would BLOW like "Loveless" did. For me anyway. Please, Isn't Anything made me want to throw all other music I owned in the trash. It was MY WORLD for about a year. m b v has a similar idiosyncrasy for me. Didn't think they could pull it off!
― Categorical Cheap-Ass Attitude (I M Losted), Sunday, 15 September 2013 17:29 (twelve years ago)
You did not like Loveless?
― Mark G, Sunday, 15 September 2013 20:37 (twelve years ago)
he could not have loved it less

still can't understand people who prefer Isn't Anything... maybe since I came to both albums after the fact, given that I was only partially conscious and perhaps not even self-aware when either came out
― global tetrahedron, Sunday, 15 September 2013 21:06 (twelve years ago)
I do prefer Isn't Anything. It is hotter and steamier. As well as the eps of the same era it stinks of sweat and sex. Obv. Loveless is great too but IA was the first one I fell for.
― kraudive, Sunday, 15 September 2013 23:06 (twelve years ago)
ew, what second hand shops are you buying these albums from, dude*sniff* someone's been fuckin on this here CD. shopkeep, where can i find more like this?

I just noticed this. I was using the voice-to-text on my cell. It should have been raked. With a k.

about to buy the digital album for my ipod. can the "16bit 44.1 K WAV" format be played on an ipod, without having to do a special conversion process?

shields not being as loony as he sounds. art/pop culture have historically been used as ideological weapons.

I finally just bought this through their site. Can't tell if the sound is terrible, or if its just my laptop speakers.
― Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 27 October 2013 11:23 (twelve years ago)
xp "In Another Way" is definitely my favorite track. It feels like the one that most embodies the unique strengths of this album: hypnotic repetition, off-kilter melody, a more optimistic (maybe?) vibe than any of their previous work.
― zchyrs, Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:13 (twelve years ago)
Listening to it now; it's like perpetually cresting a hill without getting over it, especially the refrain with the (awesome sounding) hard-panned guitar drones & synth.
― zchyrs, Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:17 (twelve years ago)

i'm seeing them live two saturdays from now. i hope they play "in another way" but looking at their recent setlists it seems unlikely.
― (emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:30 (twelve years ago)
for me, when it comes to comeback album (esp. 22 years) im expecting absolute shit. so its lovely to be surprised with not only an album thats decent but an album thats got a few tunes that are up there with the best of their stuff.
― subaltern 8 (Michael B), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:34 (twelve years ago)
most of this was recorded in like 1995 though iirc, so in that way it makes sense that a lot of it seems similar in quality to loveless
― (emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:37 (twelve years ago)
Is that confirmed tho? I just kinda assumed most of that stuff from 20 years ago was rerecorded or evolved into something way different
― Stevie D(eux), Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:41 (twelve years ago)
most of the stuff i've read about the recording is inconclusive. i know that the first track is the only one that was totally recorded after 2012, and i am pretty sure most of the other ones at least contain elements that were recorded before the band's breakup in 2007, in some cases way before then.

this is a boring thing to post but i have to sell my ticket for seeing them play montreal, please hit up a schlump if you need my ilx-discounted ticket for this event
― schlump, Sunday, 27 October 2013 19:55 (twelve years ago)
i mean its obvious that some tracks are written soon after loveless or around that time (HELLO DRUM N' BASS INFLUENCE), but it doesnt really matter when you listen to the album tbh
― subaltern 8 (Michael B), Sunday, 27 October 2013 20:19 (twelve years ago)
i used to listen to a JAMC bootleg i had through an 8os datacorder cos that's how it sounded best.
― OutdoorFish, Monday, 28 October 2013 16:54 (twelve years ago)
Am I making this up or do they supply earplugs at their shows? I'm going to see them on Sunday w/ a friend who has no earplugs and will probably forget to buy any.
― disgruntled punter (Je55e), Monday, 28 October 2013 21:15 (twelve years ago)
they were handing out earplugs when I saw them in Denver and I've heard that they did the same elsewhere. and earplugs are absolutely necessary.
― fffv, Monday, 28 October 2013 22:50 (twelve years ago)
with earplugs does the volume level still seem crazy? i've never worn earplugs to a gig before but i bought a pair for this show. i am thinking they are really loud but the talk of people vomiting due to the volume and stuff like that is a lot of hype.
