...seems like kevin really wanted the nomination
― Z S, Friday, 13 September 2013 17:28 (twelve years ago)
although maybe he said these things in an offhanded way and didn't realize it would become the headline. but it ends up making him look like they actually care about the mercury prize, which is a joke
― Z S, Friday, 13 September 2013 17:29 (twelve years ago)
I wonder if they'll be refunded the application fee
― owenf, Friday, 13 September 2013 19:01 (twelve years ago)
it actually sounds like old man rant/sour grapes.
― mark e, Friday, 13 September 2013 19:13 (twelve years ago)
"Isn't Mercury a phone company or something, anyway? What's that got to do with music?" Shields said in an exclusive interview.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercury_Communications
In 1997, Mercury ceased to exist as a brand with its amalgamation into the operations of Cable & Wireless Communications,[2] and totally exited from the telecommunications business by 1999.

I am in line at the Electric Factory box office as we speak. 8 ppl ahead of me. Shitty venue indeed but like CAN'T WAIT TO PLAY $33 LESS THAN NY AND ALSO NOT HAVE TO DEAL W GOING TO NY

Do Hammerstein's acoustics suck too?
― Baby, where'd you get Chobani from? (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 14 September 2013 15:36 (twelve years ago)
I'm out and about but was able to buy 2 tickets using the Ticketmaster app on my phone. Cost a shade more than a hundred bucks after being raped by the usual fees.
― Loud guitars shit all over "Bette Davis Eyes" (NYCNative), Saturday, 14 September 2013 17:39 (twelve years ago)
Yeah it's $11 on each $37 ticket and fuck that noise
Also "rape" is probably not the best word to use for having to pay an extra $11 for a concert ticket
― Baby, where'd you get Chobani from? (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 14 September 2013 17:41 (twelve years ago)
I paid $185.00 for 5
― Baby, where'd you get Chobani from? (Stevie D(eux)), Saturday, 14 September 2013 17:42 (twelve years ago)
they are playing the worst venue in the Twin Cities, Roy Wilkins. It's like going to a concert in a basketball court. Oh well, I'm going... Ogden show was so goddamn stellar
― global tetrahedron, Saturday, 14 September 2013 17:50 (twelve years ago)
About the Mercury prize thing, wasn't In Rainbows nominated? That didn't have a proper deal and distribution or whatever.
― This Is Not An ILX Username (LaMonte), Saturday, 14 September 2013 20:02 (twelve years ago)
still their best album

Life has kept me away. I was sick and when I recovered and returned home, RipVanWinkle-like, I discovered there was a new album. Like finding a puppy under your Christmas tree. Also I was sure it would BLOW like "Loveless" did. For me anyway. Please, Isn't Anything made me want to throw all other music I owned in the trash. It was MY WORLD for about a year. m b v has a similar idiosyncrasy for me. Didn't think they could pull it off!
― Categorical Cheap-Ass Attitude (I M Losted), Sunday, 15 September 2013 17:29 (twelve years ago)
You did not like Loveless?
― Mark G, Sunday, 15 September 2013 20:37 (twelve years ago)
he could not have loved it less
― @twitizensforlemonlipbalm (schlump), Sunday, 15 September 2013 20:59 (twelve years ago)

― @twitizensforlemonlipbalm (schlump), Sunday, 15 September 2013 21:00 (twelve years ago)
still can't understand people who prefer Isn't Anything... maybe since I came to both albums after the fact, given that I was only partially conscious and perhaps not even self-aware when either came out
― global tetrahedron, Sunday, 15 September 2013 21:06 (twelve years ago)
I do prefer Isn't Anything. It is hotter and steamier. As well as the eps of the same era it stinks of sweat and sex. Obv. Loveless is great too but IA was the first one I fell for.
― kraudive, Sunday, 15 September 2013 23:06 (twelve years ago)
ew, what second hand shops are you buying these albums from, dude*sniff* someone's been fuckin on this here CD. shopkeep, where can i find more like this?

I just noticed this. I was using the voice-to-text on my cell. It should have been raked. With a k.

about to buy the digital album for my ipod. can the "16bit 44.1 K WAV" format be played on an ipod, without having to do a special conversion process?
― Daniel, Esq 2, Saturday, 5 October 2013 23:13 (twelve years ago)

shields not being as loony as he sounds. art/pop culture have historically been used as ideological weapons.

― (emphasis Treeship's) (Treeship), Sunday, 27 October 2013 05:13 (twelve years ago)
I finally just bought this through their site. Can't tell if the sound is terrible, or if its just my laptop speakers.
― Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Sunday, 27 October 2013 11:23 (twelve years ago)
xp "In Another Way" is definitely my favorite track. It feels like the one that most embodies the unique strengths of this album: hypnotic repetition, off-kilter melody, a more optimistic (maybe?) vibe than any of their previous work.
― zchyrs, Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:13 (twelve years ago)
Listening to it now; it's like perpetually cresting a hill without getting over it, especially the refrain with the (awesome sounding) hard-panned guitar drones & synth.
― zchyrs, Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:17 (twelve years ago)
"nothing is" rules, too.
― zchyrs, Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:22 (twelve years ago)
Why would anyone listen to anything, let alone this, through laptop speakers?
― I can still taste the Taboo in my mouth when I hear those songs (Scik Mouthy), Sunday, 27 October 2013 16:40 (twelve years ago)
Laptop speakers are better than they used to be. Respectable option for broke ppl
