i wouldn't dare touch a letter of a luriqua post good sir

My Little Pono (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 19:12 (twelve years ago)

Imo, Gucci has been pretty important these years, always collaborating with and supporting young artists and producers who would later make their mark on the ATL scene and beyond. If he's burning all his bridges and goes into complete paranoia/psycho mode that can't be a good thing for anybody.

longneck, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 19:14 (twelve years ago)

if Gucci was supposed to be the stabilizing force in Keef's career for years to come then well good luck with that

some dude, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 19:18 (twelve years ago)

starring Gucci Mane as Furious Styles

My Little Pono (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 19:27 (twelve years ago)

No one can help Keef I'm afraid. Not even Gucci.

longneck, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 19:29 (twelve years ago)

He's obviously bipolar or something but I really don't want to judge music by how sympathetic I find the musician to be

i feel like this does not apply to what is happening, here, because you are doing the opposite & judging the musician according to how sympathetic you find the music to be. his behaviour isn't irrelevant to the music, the music is irrelevant to his behaviour; it is a guy volubly, publicly talking really demeaningly about women musicians, en masse, something which a general context of misogyny doesn't have to inure us to the particular grossness & violence of. his mixtapes don't mean anything here. you can still jam them all you want, but they add nothing to a conversation about his public persona.

i felt like i wasn't sufficiently literate to parse the various levels of technology that masked the VNSFW thing upthread - whether i was meant to read RTC's post as suggestion that the picture was a fake?, whether the twitter RT was an actual RT?, &c - but at face value/presuming that was a gucci tweet it just seems profoundly awful/beyond salty tweets, &c.

@twitizensforlemonlipbalm (schlump), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 19:40 (twelve years ago)

otm. I'll still jam Gucci on occasion but fuck this guy.

The Reverend, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 19:45 (twelve years ago)

The picture was obviously fake - very crudely done and very nasty. It was "pretty bad" aesthetically and morally. But it exists now thanks to this.

Also I don't think I am really doing "the opposite". I'm worried about dude because he is obviously in a very bad place right now and I'm worried about how this meltdown will affect his career. Simple as that. If someone beat him up over this I would not cry, believe me. But right now it just seems as if he's going over some kind of edge that he might not come back from.

longneck, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 19:55 (twelve years ago)

ay kev fyi I'm not robotically repeating myself if I occasionally throw in new adjectives, gucci taught me that

some dude, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 19:59 (twelve years ago)

lol

My Little Pono (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 20:16 (twelve years ago)

haha it wasn't the repeating yourself, it was the "guys his career is going to be fine!" in the middle of everyone talking about how much of an asshole he is that i thought was v in character

sing, all ye shitizens of slumerica (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 20:32 (twelve years ago)

well i mean i was responding to longneck's "I'm worried about him, I don't see him ever coming back from this public unraveling" posts

some dude, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 20:53 (twelve years ago)

I really don't think his career is going to be fine unless there's an intervention or something.

longneck, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 20:54 (twelve years ago)

i'm not saying anyone has to judge music by how sympathetic they are but getting all emotional abt this seems really dumb

As long as he's making music I don't see how he could suddenly drop to some lower level than he's been at the last couple years where he's dropping mixtapes in a Charles Hamilton-style vacuum

Fun cast: Flocka with his arms crossed; Young Scooter, not helping things by yes-manning everything Gucci says; an empty chair with a framed photo of Slim Dunk

My Little Pono (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Tuesday, 10 September 2013 21:51 (twelve years ago)

Gucci being bipolar is not my personal diagnosis. It's a pretty common hypothesis although I haven't heard a professional speak on it, hence the "or something". I'd say his behavior surpasses just being an asshole though.

How is it that the Keef Aspergers thing gets rolled out as fact without a single legit source backing it up?

tsrobodo, Tuesday, 10 September 2013 23:43 (twelve years ago)

People just love hearing something that confirms their opinion of someone and lets them go "i KNEW it!"

some dude, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 01:55 (twelve years ago)

The Keef aspergers thing arose from him being shy and new to the limelight. Gucci and mental illness is another story entirely though. Debra Antney started out as Gucci's counselor, not his manager. He begged her to become his manager because he liked her counseling and felt like he needed her around, and she left the Ludacris Foundation where she was dealing with at risk people to work for him instead. I know that's no diagnosis but acting as if Gucci is a sane asshole whom we can ridicule and distance ourselves from and not someone who has larger psychiatric problems just seems weird to me.

buzza, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 07:54 (twelve years ago)

I'm not saying Gucci doesn't have issues he might need to deal with. Lots of people do. Bit yes I think he is sane and responsible for how he acts. He very likely has a substance abuse problem. Which I'm sorry for but maybe if less people around him coddled him and excused him he'd be better off.

My Little Pono (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 13:10 (twelve years ago)

I'm actually not ridiculing him at all actually and I find your tone really condescending and frankly really phony. You don't know Gucci or anything about him. You're following this the same as anyone and just recently were all up in who's gonna kill who gossip about Keef and them's beef.

My Little Pono (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 13:12 (twelve years ago)

can we just stop for a second and remember that this discussion involves the Ludacris Foundation? that never gets old.

"Dave Barlow" is the name Lou uses on sabermetrics baseball sites (s.clover), Wednesday, 11 September 2013 13:16 (twelve years ago)

sort of hesitate to do any armchair diagnosis w/r/t any acting-out celebrity's mental health or medical issues but gucci's meltdown was setting off alarm bells just as amanda bynes' behaviour did, this isn't like azealia banks just yelling at people or whatever. that said nicki was totally within her rights to ether him like she did

lex pretend, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 13:22 (twelve years ago)

Lex otm. I'm really not trying to be condescending. If Gucci is completely sane it's perfectly ok to treat him like the idiot he comes across as. If he has mental health issues on the other hand, there's reason to be worried. We're watching someone break down in public, treating it like entertainment. Nicki and whoever else is perfectly entitled to lash back anyway (even though I found Tyga's "Gucci has AIDS" retort to be really tasteless). But I'm getting a bad feeling from all of this.

longneck, Wednesday, 11 September 2013 13:52 (twelve years ago)

Aren't you treating potentially deadly Dirk/Keef feuding like entertainment

I wrote about it last year when I semi dropped out of the goon thread. We all live vicariously through this shit. It's troublesome but no one is any different.

No I'm just trying to find out as much about what's happening with Durk and Keef and them so as to better understand the music I listen to and the scene that it belongs to. That's not "treating it like entertainment" I hope.
