He's obviously bipolar or something but I really don't want to judge music by how sympathetic I find the musician to be. As for Gucci, he is an important rapper responsible for a lot of the music I have loved over the past 6 or so years. He just dropped three pretty great tapes in a day. And quite a few of the interesting young producers out started their careers making beats for Gucci mixtapes. So yeah, I find it distressing when he unravels in public.

Short of it leading to some kind of serious beef he didn't already have, I don't see how any of this really changes anything. He'll just keep constantly dropping music independently for the same audience, with or without the revolving door of Brick Squad sidekicks and occasional mainstream features he's always had.

Other than being less consistently good/popular than he was in 2009-2010, it's kind of remarkable how static the quality and quantity of his work has been over the last 8 years or so, amid constant personal and professional issues and controversies. A buncha salty tweets seem pretty minor really.

Imo, Gucci has been pretty important these years, always collaborating with and supporting young artists and producers who would later make their mark on the ATL scene and beyond. If he's burning all his bridges and goes into complete paranoia/psycho mode that can't be a good thing for anybody.

i feel like this does not apply to what is happening, here, because you are doing the opposite & judging the musician according to how sympathetic you find the music to be. his behaviour isn't irrelevant to the music, the music is irrelevant to his behaviour; it is a guy volubly, publicly talking really demeaningly about women musicians, en masse, something which a general context of misogyny doesn't have to inure us to the particular grossness & violence of. his mixtapes don't mean anything here. you can still jam them all you want, but they add nothing to a conversation about his public persona.

i felt like i wasn't sufficiently literate to parse the various levels of technology that masked the VNSFW thing upthread - whether i was meant to read RTC's post as suggestion that the picture was a fake?, whether the twitter RT was an actual RT?, &c - but at face value/presuming that was a gucci tweet it just seems profoundly awful/beyond salty tweets, &c.

The picture was obviously fake - very crudely done and very nasty. It was "pretty bad" aesthetically and morally. But it exists now thanks to this.

Also I don't think I am really doing "the opposite". I'm worried about dude because he is obviously in a very bad place right now and I'm worried about how this meltdown will affect his career. Simple as that. If someone beat him up over this I would not cry, believe me. But right now it just seems as if he's going over some kind of edge that he might not come back from.

Gucci being bipolar is not my personal diagnosis. It's a pretty common hypothesis although I haven't heard a professional speak on it, hence the "or something". I'd say his behavior surpasses just being an asshole though.
