I am actually thinking abt withdrawing the RTX one and just button polling all their albums in the next few months. But if someone else wanted to still run it, then obv I'd refrain

Just wanted to say that the Elton John thread has been great, and that if anyone's intimidated/on the fence, it has been rife with recommendations for deep cuts/albums to help you navigate past the hits.

Naive Teen Idol, were you volunteering a Byrds poll upthread, couple of times?

I have major anxiety about running a poll thread. I feel like I barely have time to participate in poll threads much less maintain one. For all of the same reasons -- family/kids/work.

That said, I recognize that I've been the main voice advocating for Byrds and Fahey polls. I kind of feel like ILM has to poll these guys at some point. They just have such huge catalogues and influence I have to imagine they would make fascinating polls.

So, with that said, I'm still anxious about committing to them, but would consider it if absolutely no one else volunteers.

I'd definitely vote in a Byrds poll (not Fahey, tho...sorry).

Sightings poll is done. I may do a Sightings tracks poll though, if that's cool.

I think I want to poll frontmen and women; I'm thinking from a performance/stagecraft/charisma point-of-view, rather than by vocal or musical ability as such. It's not too big a field I don't think? On one hand it's every act ever, but on the other it's fairly clear where the top division lies.

you'd need to set v strict terms, which tbh makes for a sucky nominations process imo

I dunno, I'm pretty relaxed about the field so long as we know that what we're voting for isn't 'favourite band', or 'best singer', or Mark E Smith. Weight of numbers generally takes care of the rest.

i still think the cancelled 35 Cocteau Twins poll should go next if LeRooLeRoo is ready to roll it out!

I need to turn over maintaining the poll list to somebody else, anyone who's willing to keep it updated, chase down people to start their polls, post links, etc., for at least the next month and a half. Work is killing me, wife's health issues are stressing both of us, getting ready for a long trip is killing me. Anybody who wants to deal with this thread, it's yours. It's not really that much work, go for it.

i'm very, very sorry to hear about your families issues. hope everything will turn out fine.

i would be able to take over managing this thread for a temporary bases for the month and a half that you have to deal with these issues. though if someone else wants to do it that is more qualified than use them instead.

Going back to school, so can't take it on, but best of luck WC, you've done stellar work keeping things coordinated.

No Stax rollout until mid-September at the earliest (most likely to be the 23rd actually) so there's definitely space for a quick artist poll.

Stiff! I remember seeing NME retrospectives on the legendary Stiff Records, but they never explained what the big deal was.

There's a lot of stuff on the label I really do love, but a whole lot more I've never heard or, in some cases, heard of.
