But the cover has a cock, not a chicken.

Mike Ouderkirk (Mike Ouderkirk), Saturday, 31 January 2004 07:38 (twenty-two years ago)

You have to use the greater-than/less-than brackets. Like this:

The end result would look like:

Quibble with the Frampton. The yawnsomely literal title for this picture would be something like "Frampton Stares" or "Mouth Agape, With Guitar." It doesn't show him "coming alive," not literally.

yeah, on same theme I picked up a second hand copy of Big Jim Sullivan's LP "Big Jim's Back" yesterday. Guess what the cover pic is of?

not that I don't love this album, though it would have been more apropos (and more hilarious!) if it had been named Super Gaye.

Quibble with Billy Joel's "Glass Houses" - he is patently OUTSIDE the house. Has there ever been a proverbial - as opposed to legal - prohibition specifying that "people shouldn't throw stones AT glass houses"? I think not.

David Bromberg Band – Bandit In A Bathing Suit

change a word make a third (Matt #2), Monday, 11 May 2026 17:26 (four weeks ago)

"Kleeer – Taste The Music"

I learn from the internet that they were originally The Jam Band, but they changed their name in 1977 to avoid confusion with The Jam. Or at least that's what Discogs.com says. It doesn't pass the smell test, and Wikipedia has a different chronology. They're a pretty obscure band. But this is Ilxor, where the obscure is commonplace. It's not called Mission: Difficult.

I have to say that Kleeer immediately makes me think of Blakes Seven. It's a bad guy name. Comissioner Kleeer. Sector Chief Kleeer. Of the planet Sinofar. Series three, episode five. He probably dies a nasty death. Or alternatively the episode ends with him pulling off a latex facemask, and - surprise - it's Servalan!

"Jimmy Grierson, "A Series of Long Jumps""

I respect that cover. Because it actually has a series of long jumps. Not just one long jump. It has a series of them. Some of the yawnsomely literal album covers up the thread aren't completely literal and I disrespect them. Ray Stevens isn't holding a bullet. He's holding an artillery shell. And Mary O'Hara is not at the Royal Festival Hall. She's not at the Royal Albert Hall. She's clearly some distance away. The correct title should be Mary O'Hara Standing On the Hungerford Bridge, Overlooking the Royal Festival Hall.

But in Jimmy Grierson's case there actually is a series of long jumps. And they are long. It's hard to judge the scale, but each bound appears to be at least twice his height, so we're talking 10-12 feet. That's nowhere near Olympic standard, but it's still a long jump. I would have trouble jumping that far horizontally once, let along several times.

It's a good example of why Peter Saville is not necessarily the answer. Given the same brief, he would probably have delivered a black and white image of a Grecian bust with some fancy typography. Also Firefox has stopped checking my spelling. I can't tell if Firefox is broken or if this is an Ilxor thing. Is it a subtle way of winnowing out AI. Should I add some, or add more spelling errors, or take some away.

Ashley Pomeroy, Monday, 11 May 2026 18:25 (four weeks ago)

They're a pretty obscure band.

They're pretty celebrated in funk and soul circles, and well-sampled.
