I can't remember what I do, but imo if you can only vote for a few tracks you should sacrifice your top five or so slots.

Ismael Klata, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 17:31 (twelve years ago)

Okay, I'm gonna go ahead and get the Elton John voting thread ready in the next little bit. If anyone has an objection, speak now etc etc.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 6 August 2013 20:18 (twelve years ago)

For when you're choosing your countdown colours:

garish
gaudy

clemenza, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 20:23 (twelve years ago)

That didn't work out so well.

clemenza, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 20:24 (twelve years ago)

Thinking about images of bulldogs that resemble Elton for the results graphics.

Just kidding.

you're on notice

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Tuesday, 6 August 2013 20:29 (twelve years ago)

I DON'T WANT TO POLL ON WITH YOU LIKE THAT: The Elton John ballot poll voting thread!

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Tuesday, 6 August 2013 20:36 (twelve years ago)

Woohoo!

Doctor Casino, Tuesday, 6 August 2013 22:12 (twelve years ago)

~I can see that argument. What bothers me is in ordered voting, if you only vote for 5 you get to assign huge amounts of points to just a few songs.
~

You get to assign the same no of points to yr top five as everyone else. To propose anything else is to promote false votes for an insincere bottom 40 or w/e imo

Dr Peter Who? (darraghmac), Tuesday, 6 August 2013 23:29 (twelve years ago)

dmac, do you want to sign on to poll Oasis, or have you not finished shaking your head yet?

things are going to get better or worse (WilliamC), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 00:16 (twelve years ago)

Has anyone successfully used ffm's pivot table with Excel Starter? It doesn't seem to have pivot table functionality on the surface, but perhaps I'm missing something.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 04:59 (twelve years ago)

Aw crumbs. Microsoft faq tell me no.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 05:01 (twelve years ago)

I have excel starter, so I had to be really careful cutting and pasting stuff.

Uncle Cyril O'Boogie (C. Grisso/McCain), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 05:05 (twelve years ago)

lol i'll sign on i guess, but i refuse to acknowledge ilm in any way besides except by scorning it if you don't mind. poll obv ties in with that.

Dr Peter Who? (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 06:09 (twelve years ago)

minimum 50 picks btw

Dr Peter Who? (darraghmac), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 06:15 (twelve years ago)

I think I've figured out just enough about pivot tables to make a huge mess and do nothing productive. Haven't lost any data yet, thank fuck.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Wednesday, 7 August 2013 06:57 (twelve years ago)

I just agreed on a Cocteau thread to pick up the abandoned poll. You can add me to the list!

LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, 7 August 2013 07:38 (twelve years ago)

Is Stereoab taken yet?

May I Call You Jiggleee? (Leee), Thursday, 8 August 2013 15:40 (twelve years ago)

My main criterion for volunteering as poll runner is a conceptual idea for the graphics, thought y'all should know.

May I Call You Jiggleee? (Leee), Thursday, 8 August 2013 15:43 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, Moka has that one at 83 or so.

Twerkin' with Sasquatch (WilliamC), Thursday, 8 August 2013 15:43 (twelve years ago)

Oh right!

May I Call You Jiggleee? (Leee), Thursday, 8 August 2013 16:08 (twelve years ago)

leee could do bardo pond

..it would have sounded about as heavy as Talulah Gosh. (Algerian Goalkeeper), Thursday, 8 August 2013 17:37 (twelve years ago)

And by the time it rolled around, it might get 10 people voting in it!

May I Call You Jiggleee? (Leee), Friday, 9 August 2013 05:22 (twelve years ago)

Want to do graphics for the Spacemen 3, etc. poll?

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 10 August 2013 08:25 (twelve years ago)

(I'm currently spending more time on Floyd poll graphics than I am on looking for more work)

Elvis Telecom, Saturday, 10 August 2013 08:26 (twelve years ago)

:D :D :D

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 10 August 2013 17:29 (twelve years ago)

Elvis, are you asking me? I'm strictly an amateur!

May I Call You Jiggleee? (Leee), Saturday, 10 August 2013 18:05 (twelve years ago)

graphics? spreadsheets? what?

Dr Peter Who? (darraghmac), Saturday, 10 August 2013 18:22 (twelve years ago)

You can't back out now; what's you've signed up, you've signed up for life.

May I Call You Jiggleee? (Leee), Saturday, 10 August 2013 18:42 (twelve years ago)

I'm sorry guys, I've been mostly away from the internet for the last month or so. I'm still gonna run the disco poll, but if Seandalai is gonna run the Stax poll first, that's cool.

I've been compiling a list of disco classics people can vote from, besides everyone's personal nominations, and doing that was slower than I thought, so I didn't get to finish it before my summer vacation. So I'll finish the list that and start the disco poll after the Stax poll is over, if that's okay with everyone? Has the Stax poll started already?

Tuomas, Monday, 12 August 2013 20:35 (twelve years ago)

Stax should start sometime soon iirc. I'm not sure what transpired (busy people, me speaking up?) that led to the Elton John poll being bumped up to now from #78, but that will be completed by the end of next week.

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Monday, 12 August 2013 20:58 (twelve years ago)

eh yeah Stax will happen very soon but I have two job interviews this week so things are getting in the way

Please review your choices carefully. (seandalai), Monday, 12 August 2013 21:24 (twelve years ago)

(busy people, me speaking up?)

Both of those, plus maybe I'm doing too much reading between the lines but sometimes I get a whiff of "wait a minute, running a poll is going to actually involve me doing some work, isn't it?"

cops on horse (WilliamC), Monday, 12 August 2013 22:12 (twelve years ago)

That reminds me, you haven't posted the list for a while

Ismael Klata, Monday, 12 August 2013 22:18 (twelve years ago)

Just kidding, but I do think there's a benefit to seeing & anticipating what's coming up. It felt a bit like JF was volunteering onto a blank slate there.

Ismael Klata, Monday, 12 August 2013 22:20 (twelve years ago)

Yeah, let me gather the updates and new additions and will post in a few minutes.

hey William, LeRoLe Roo has agreed to do the Cocteau Twins poll that was cancelled.

I just agreed on a Cocteau thread to pick up the abandoned poll. You can add me to the list!

― LeRooLeRoo, Wednesday, August 7, 2013 12:38 AM (5 days ago)

Bee OK, Tuesday, 13 August 2013 01:51 (twelve years ago)

Oh yeah, will add that back at #95 next time.

cops on horse (WilliamC), Tuesday, 13 August 2013 02:00 (twelve years ago)

Lol mea culpa wmc, mea culpa. I promise to do my poll regardless of shoddiness of result, ok? Dont get twitchy on me every time i moan.

darraghmac, Tuesday, 13 August 2013 12:45 (twelve years ago)

I am actually thinking abt withdrawing the RTX one and just button polling all their albums in the next few months. But if someone else wanted to still run it, then obv I'd refrain

mucus has a right to children (Drugs A. Money), Friday, 16 August 2013 11:11 (twelve years ago)

Just wanted to say that the Elton John thread has been great, and that if anyone's intimidated/on the fence, it has been rife with recommendations for deep cuts/albums to help you navigate past the hits.

Doctor Casino, Friday, 16 August 2013 23:06 (twelve years ago)

yeah, has really been a great thread, i hope more people feel free to dip in and throw together a ballot this weekend

some dude, Friday, 16 August 2013 23:36 (twelve years ago)

Naive Teen Idol, were you volunteering a Byrds poll upthread, couple of times?

Lee626, Saturday, 17 August 2013 01:35 (twelve years ago)

I have major anxiety about running a poll thread. I feel like I barely have time to participate in poll threads much less maintain one. For all of the same reasons -- family/kids/work.

That said, I recognize that I've been the main voice advocating for Byrds and Fahey polls. I kind of feel like ILM has to poll these guys at some point. They just have such huge catalogues and influence I have to imagine they would make fascinating polls.

So, with that said, I'm still anxious about committing to them, but would consider it if absolutely no one else volunteers.

Naive Teen Idol, Saturday, 17 August 2013 02:42 (twelve years ago)

I'd definitely vote in a Byrds poll (not Fahey, tho...sorry).

Ⓓⓡ. (Johnny Fever), Saturday, 17 August 2013 02:43 (twelve years ago)

Sightings poll is done. I may do a Sightings tracks poll though, if that's cool.

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Saturday, 17 August 2013 02:50 (twelve years ago)

isn't that what you signed up to do?

some dude, Saturday, 17 August 2013 03:44 (twelve years ago)
