Also, with 5 slots to go, I can only think of 2 sure things. Weird...

I think I have to shed a tear here for my #s 1, 4 & 7.

Xpost Clash didn't hide "Train in Vain," it was added after the art was done!
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:10 (twelve years ago)
Would "Train in Vain" be considered a hidden track? I was under the impression it was written and recorded in a few days after the London Calling sessions had ended, and the artwork had already gone to the printers so they couldn't add it on.
― Gukbe, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:10 (twelve years ago)
whoops xpost
I'll rep for Lennox's covers of "No More 'I Love You's'" and "Waiting in Vain" off of the same album,
and "Something So Right."

the only one to fall where I ranked it thus far.

i think i have worked out the remaining 4. 3 obvious and 1 which would be a top 4 surprise but more of a surprise not to make it at all.

Drums on "Safe European Home" up there with opening snare hit in "Like a Rolling Stone."

I can't remember what's been and what's not been, I'm awash in an endless sea of Clash. Bring it on.

Good place to link to a blog with the isolated tracks:

Something else I love about the Clash is how they were a band that most certainly did not simply replicate the studio versions live. I totally love that they knew how to shape up in the studio, but when they played they were ragged, sloppy and raw in all the best ways.
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:19 (twelve years ago)
Next one has the lowest number of votes in the Top 10, but curiously, no #1s.

That wasn't one of the ones I was thinking of--didn't even know it was that beloved. Then again, Give 'em Enough Rope was always the one (proper) Clash record I could never fully embrace.
― The Butthurt Locker (cryptosicko), Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:21 (twelve years ago)
i came to rope last of all for some reason and with low expectations. i knew tommy gun and english civil war and nothing else. this opener floored me instantly. i have a vivid memory of just snapping to attention.
janie jones my highest track from the first album, similar to the other best songs on there but just more somehow. lucky lady!
― Roberto Spiralli, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:23 (twelve years ago)
Safe European Home sounds like terror, pulls off the weird trick of being both contemptuous and sympathetic to its point of view, and uses the structure of a novelty song to create something very fucking serious. It was my number three.
― Three Word Username, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:26 (twelve years ago)
Safe European Home sounds like terror
OTM
xxp Lennox: Well, I confess, I don't like "Train in Vain" much anyway so there's not much at stake for me. Why must his love interest explain anything? Get over it dude!
― Pete Scholtes, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:28 (twelve years ago)
My god, those isolates. Someone MUST make a mid-90s post-rave UK euphoric piano house track out of the Rock The Casbah piano isolate.
― Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:29 (twelve years ago)
Listening to "Rope" right now. Younger daughter thought they were singing "Julie's Been Working for the Duck Squad."
― Josh in Chicago, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:29 (twelve years ago)
that works perfectly for me. Don't mess with ducks, kids. They're vicious little fuckers.
― EZ Snappin, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:30 (twelve years ago)
well now i want to come up with duck-related alternate lyrics
― Gukbe, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:30 (twelve years ago)

FHTE version is epic, even taking into account Chimes.

Voted for "Straight To Hell," but didn't think it was gonna place at this point. Woo!
I only have one of these last two pegged. I'm gonna slap myself when I see the other, aren't I?

From the numbers, is Straight to Hell the most voted for song?
― Three Word Username, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:36 (twelve years ago)
"Straight to Hell" is one of the best jukebox songs of all time. You can bring a bar to its knees with that one (plus it goes on for a while, so you get your credit's worth)
― Evan R, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:36 (twelve years ago)
I know Train in Vain wasn't really hidden, which is why i used quote marks, but people used to call it a hidden track as it wasn't on the cover tracklist.Bummed that Safe European Home wasn't top 3 at least.
― Dr X O'Skeleton, Wednesday, 17 July 2013 21:37 (twelve years ago)
