not even from a progressive perspective, I mean but sheer must not get into legal trademarking trouble perspective

(other option: it's trolling. it's juuuuust plausible enough, just enough on the nose.)

katherine, Sunday, 14 July 2013 23:35 (twelve years ago)

i have to believe nobody would troll like that on purpose, there's no upside, it's not even funny on a 'yeah, i meant to do that' level

king of steens (some dude), Sunday, 14 July 2013 23:43 (twelve years ago)

TBTN foundation can consider all the lawsuits they want but they're highly unlikely to file and certainly won't win if they do. They didn't invent the phrase, and their registered trademark affords certain very specific protections, of which controlling whether or not the phrase appears in a work of art is not one.

Good PR move though and I'm glad they're making the most of the opportunity.

"Spaceship Coupe" has been giving me naughty feelings lately.

Boven is het stil (Eric H.), Monday, 15 July 2013 00:05 (twelve years ago)

it's pretty funny though that they were like "we sent him an email through his website but it wasn't answered"

J0rdan S., Monday, 15 July 2013 00:06 (twelve years ago)

I posted under his youtube video and he never hit me back.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 15 July 2013 00:27 (twelve years ago)

i tweeted @JTimberlakeTeam, no response, not even a follow back

I've stood by Tolkien's grave. And did he have the courtesy to rise from the dead, no.

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2013 00:51 (twelve years ago)

jerk

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 15 July 2013 00:54 (twelve years ago)

No, see, that's the wrong moment from the film when the actual return is earlier and it's not quite like in the book and...

*several hours pass*

...and that's what Peter Jackson and by extension you got wrong. Hello? You there?

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2013 01:10 (twelve years ago)

"Time for your nap, Mr Raggett"

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 15 July 2013 02:31 (twelve years ago)

"Because this dorky looking cloak and staff are all that between us and the real bad guys."

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 15 July 2013 02:38 (twelve years ago)

I'm enjoying the turn this thread has taken

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Monday, 15 July 2013 03:07 (twelve years ago)

come for the Timberlake, stay for Treebeard

"This meeting of the ILXor White Council will come to order. ME ME ME."

Ned Raggett, Monday, 15 July 2013 03:12 (twelve years ago)

Timberlake & Jay-Z's joint show in London last night was pretty spectacular. The only lull came during Pusher Love (end already!) and the very boring Take Back the Night. But hearing him sing the hooks on Heart of the City and I Just Wanna Love U, or drop a verse of I Want You Back over Izzo, was damn fine.

Deafening silence (DL), Monday, 15 July 2013 09:56 (twelve years ago)

yeah, raves about it in my office today

TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Monday, 15 July 2013 10:17 (twelve years ago)

I've seen Jay-Z be so-so, but I've seen JT three times, and he was great each time. Screw seeing it in a football stadium here, though.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 15 July 2013 12:15 (twelve years ago)

Jay-Z/JT are the first concert at the Ravens' stadium since U2 a couple years ago -- my editor called me a few hours before U2 hit the stage and asked me if I wanted to cover the show, so i'm still laboring under the unrealistic hope that that could happen with this show.

king of steens (some dude), Monday, 15 July 2013 12:19 (twelve years ago)

Upon the release of my new single ‘Take Back The Night’, I was made aware of an organization of the same name called The Take Back The Night Foundation. I wanted to take this opportunity to let all know that neither my song nor its lyrics have any association with the organization.

As I’ve learned more about The Take Back The Night Foundation, I’m moved by its efforts to stop violence against women, create safe communities and encourage respectful relationships for women — Something we all should rally around. It is my hope that this coincidence will bring more awareness to this cause.

It is my hope that this coincidence will bring more awareness to this cause publicity to a single most will find disappointingly out of style.

Boven is het stil (Eric H.), Monday, 15 July 2013 19:09 (twelve years ago)

c'mon, clearly the song will do well

king of steens (some dude), Monday, 15 July 2013 20:01 (twelve years ago)

How is a song that borrows from the same set of influences as some of other big hits of the year considerred out of style?

MarkoP, Monday, 15 July 2013 20:07 (twelve years ago)

i think "dated as fuck" would be the better expression

surm, Monday, 15 July 2013 20:08 (twelve years ago)

I was speaking on behalf of the wildly, inaccurately wrong people itt.

Boven is het stil (Eric H.), Monday, 15 July 2013 20:10 (twelve years ago)

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 04:37 (twelve years ago)

Me & Mahomies (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 20 September 2013 04:43 (twelve years ago)

dyl, Friday, 20 September 2013 07:29 (twelve years ago)

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 09:21 (twelve years ago)

I had to stop the song after the intro so I could facepalm for a couple minutes before I could return to it

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 09:22 (twelve years ago)

yeah the new one is coming out on tuesday, same date as drake.

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 09:29 (twelve years ago)

this is def mediocre as fuck but damn, the way you lot were carrying on i had the popcorn ready for something outrageous :/

r|t|c, Friday, 20 September 2013 09:42 (twelve years ago)

lmao @ people acting like this is any more pointless, over-long or self-parodic than anything else JT has put out this year

lex pretend, Friday, 20 September 2013 10:20 (twelve years ago)

lmao @ JT for thinking that this of all things merited seven minutes

lex pretend, Friday, 20 September 2013 10:20 (twelve years ago)

damn not an Elvis Costello cover then.

first I think it's time I kick a little verse! (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 20 September 2013 11:04 (twelve years ago)

imo you chumps have got it all wrong tbh, jt is clearly a modern day bunuel interrogating bourgeois absurdity thru luxury longueurs

r|t|c, Friday, 20 September 2013 11:06 (twelve years ago)

"Take Back the Night" not sounding too bad now in comparison, is it now?

midnight outdoor nude frolic up north goes south (Eric H.), Friday, 20 September 2013 12:16 (twelve years ago)

Come on. Like chanting "kill me with that coochie coochie coo" isn't jumping the shark so hard their water skies touch down in the lunar maria.

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 12:22 (twelve years ago)

sure yeah but like how is that not just the latest in a long line of timbo cringe

whatever tho nbd

r|t|c, Friday, 20 September 2013 14:13 (twelve years ago)

Wait is this the next single or just the track being previewed at the moment? World of difference imo, Justin's deep cuts have always had dippy lyrics galore

Jean-Claude Brand Ambassador (some dude), Friday, 20 September 2013 14:31 (twelve years ago)

reminder: "if you'll be my strawberry bubblegum, then I'll be your blueberry lollipop"

katherine, Friday, 20 September 2013 14:54 (twelve years ago)

Idk. That one never bothered me but I never took it as literally as some here did.

The Reverend, Friday, 20 September 2013 18:12 (twelve years ago)

taking it figuratively is the bigger problem
