the funny thing about JT's dumb lyrics is that he IS capable of self-awareness - see his entire "shades" verse! which is 100% corny punchlines but he delivers them with a nod and a wink because he totally knows they're dumb - but the dumbest of them, the "you're not green"/"i work at my job"/"my dick is a blueberry lollipop" ones, he sings so SINCERELY and SERIOUSLY

OK. I've heard "Take Back the Night" twice in the last two hours on local top 40 radio. I guess "Tunnel Vision" hasn't a chance...?

well they probably sensed that

at least "take back the night" sounds more like a single than the ones from part one

yeah it's possible that all along the plan was to save more marketable songs for the 2nd album since the 1st was destined to do big numbers anyway just off anticipation/name recognition. would be smart, considering how when big acts release 2 albums a few months apart usually it's the latter that has a hard time gaining traction.

i'm curious to see if part 2 follows the trend in that npr article or if it's coming out close enough to the huge overseller that the one after this (if there is one) will actually be the downslope of the curve

how is "tunnel vision" any less marketable than "what goes around" though. I mean I still hear the latter on radio, sometimes coda and all

although in retrospect the strategy here is p. clear: porn video for streaming hits, radio single for everything else

i could totally see "tunnel vision" being a hit at this point, dude seems totally unstoppable

"mirrors" sounded totally like the "what goes around" of this record to me though

"Tunnel Vision" feels kind of like it's in a "My Love" template (to a milder degree than "Mirrors" was in the "What Goes" template), particularly now that it's a single and the videos are even kinda similar, nudity aside. but it's not remotely as immediate as "My Love," to say nothing of having T.I., etc.

i'd say it's closest to "cry me a river" just in terms of the darkness/moodiness but yeah obviously not nearly the tune

i'm still annoyed that they didn't at least send "Pusher Love Girl" to R&B stations
