I was just listening to top 40, and they played a block of celebrity station IDs. "Hi, this is Robin Thicke," "Hi, this is Justin Timberlake," "Hi, this is Daft Punk ..." With that last one my ears pricked up, because no ways was it Daft Punk. High voice, no accent. It sounded like Spike Jonze, actually.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 8 July 2013 17:10 (twelve years ago)

robot voice?

Ismael Klata, Monday, 8 July 2013 17:21 (twelve years ago)

No! Just some high pitched nasal voice. Like Spike Jonze.

Josh in Chicago, Monday, 8 July 2013 17:25 (twelve years ago)

Spike Jonze has an American accent though

Ismael Klata, Monday, 8 July 2013 17:41 (twelve years ago)

exactly. i said no accent. no french accent.

the other day, three different normal, non-music-obsessed people in my fb feed called Get Lucky "Up All Night"

I felt like that *meant something*

alpine static, Wednesday, 10 July 2013 18:20 (twelve years ago)

Overheard in the pub last night: "So anyway, he spent 15 minutes explaining to me all the different meanings of the phrase 'get lucky.'"

Deafening silence (DL), Wednesday, 10 July 2013 18:23 (twelve years ago)

lol what

lady steendriver (The Reverend), Wednesday, 10 July 2013 21:24 (twelve years ago)

uh, that's to the condoms, not your anecdote

lady steendriver (The Reverend), Wednesday, 10 July 2013 21:24 (twelve years ago)

Daft Punk has a partnership with Durex now is how NME described it. (Much cooler than just saying "licensing deal".)

Yikes, trying to decide who is the weakest link in that cover:

Cline?
Kotche?
Tweedy?
Stirratt?

Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Friday, 19 July 2013 20:06 (twelve years ago)

it's probably the link between wilco and dance music

kaiju rolling stone cover (Sufjan Grafton), Friday, 19 July 2013 20:07 (twelve years ago)

i dnt know wilco dude names, but the rhythm guitarist just playing a facsimile of a xerox copy of a drawing some kid made of disco guitar

this album is an intentionally hollow lifeless piece of shit. Get Lucky is the Magic Carpet Ride of our young decade. I thought HAA was taking the piss but boy did they show us

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 23:32 (twelve years ago)

100% of the noises on this record just make me want to spin up christopher cross, steely dan and hall+oates with a splash of ye olde weather report - or one of those curated "disco rarities!" 2CD comps from 2005
because any of those would be an improvement - and the worst part is that I feel certain that DP intended for me to feel that way - which is also kind of hilarious and awesome in the OK HA HA YOU GOT ME sense

but yeah basically this whole record can go fuck itself and I hate all of it

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 23:39 (twelve years ago)

GL was lol catchy the first time it got stuck in my head. After that it dawned on me that I got took. There's not a lot I enjoy less than feeling like a chump

El Tomboto, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 23:41 (twelve years ago)

and the worst part is that I feel certain that DP intended for me to feel that way - which is also kind of hilarious and awesome in the OK HA HA YOU GOT ME sense

The ego on you, thinking DP made an album just to fool Mr. Tomboto...

Seriously though, don't confuse your dislike of a record for the band being "ironic" about their music.

Le Bateau Ivre, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 23:47 (twelve years ago)

That wasn't supposed to be an image, but your quote:

what a useless waste of space you are, listening to a song and liking it

ROBOTS CAN'T MAKE MUSIC

ty based gay dead computer god (zachlyon), Wednesday, 31 July 2013 23:52 (twelve years ago)

I like to play this record for my dinner guests and laugh at them if they show any sign of enjoyment. Dupes!

RAM is the whoopie cushion for millenials

kaiju rolling stone cover (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 31 July 2013 23:55 (twelve years ago)

I unliked Nile Rogers and Giorgio Moroder on facebook yesterday.

how's life, Wednesday, 31 July 2013 23:56 (twelve years ago)

i dig the robot voices on a purely aesthetic level... the ostentatious ugliness of it all. but they're not, like, "fun" or "pleasant" to listen to. they don't work on this shit. weirdly ugly robot vox are better than shitty human vox though, i guess.

( (brimstead), Wednesday, 31 July 2013 23:59 (twelve years ago)

I don't want to share message board space with people who don't like "Magic Carpet Ride"

except about magic carpet ride

flopson, Thursday, 1 August 2013 00:14 (twelve years ago)

most of this album would be a big improvement if it was as fun as "Magic Carpet Ride"

I think I would have enjoyed this album more if they'd bumped the BPMs up by at least 10 across the board on the first 9 tracks

THE WORINÐLVE (DJP), Thursday, 1 August 2013 01:02 (twelve years ago)

it's not that I don't like MCR, it's more like it makes me feel like I need to shove some kind of diminished epi-pen into my forehead to offset the D C G A barf
so it's more like an allergy

I still like certain kinds of fun, like messy sandwiches
but this record is like a molecular gastronomist's cheeseburger
so it's still a cheeseburger
and yet, fuck me for ordering it

El Tomboto, Thursday, 1 August 2013 01:18 (twelve years ago)

come on man you know you love the pedal steel over those synths that come in at the end of "Beyond"

loosely inspired by Dr. Dre (crüt), Thursday, 1 August 2013 01:24 (twelve years ago)
