royce has always been a great rapper no doubt but i cant say i ever really was actively excited about his music til recently, like it always felt like some background shit, & maybe thats on me or maybe thats on the state or rap music today but i dunno, even his premo singles now feel more significant or something. like, "hip hop" is a good honest song but it feels like so many others, like a variation on a really really common theme. where 'shake this' feels a lot more sui generis & honest
