Kinda, assuming you are referring to The Last Record Store
-- xian, Friday, October 5, 2007 5:37 PM (54 minutes ago) Bookmark Link

i am. does it suck? is it tiny? i saw their ebay page and they had some cool stuff i'd buy, but heard not everything in the store is listed on the site. so figured i could peruse the store and save on shipping all in one.

jaxon, Friday, 5 October 2007 18:33 (eighteen years ago)

It is a decent shop - I have found some sweet jazz and folk LPs there over the years and usually pretty cheap, but the majority of the time I walk out empty handed and I've been dying to buy records at the time...

Basically, would I come up from the city just for TLRS? No. But if it is part of a Sonoma County daytrip, sure.

Steve Shasta, Thursday, 25 October 2007 19:51 (eighteen years ago)

last weekend i noticed mezzanine hung four giant speakers, is this thread to thank for that?

too bad they weren't turned on, kavinsky wasnt loud enough :(

The Macallan 18 Year, Thursday, 25 October 2007 22:56 (eighteen years ago)

That event Jaxon posted sounds good. Does anyone know anything about this disco phenom ? I read that piece in the Guardian that Battags posted and I'm thinking are we about to see a whole bevy of disco/cosmic/ beardo/balearic gigs in SF ? If so, I am so ready for this .

oscar, Thursday, 25 October 2007 23:07 (eighteen years ago)

Escort are from New York and have been self-releasing a bunch of fantastic singles over the past year, you should check them out post-haste. the cosmic thing has been happening, but slowly. this year saw Lindstrom, Prins Thomas and Todd Terje all come through (the latter two within a week of each other)...i've already head people coming into the shop looking for "space disco" which is cool. i guess i need to start labeling 12"s with that....

BATTAGS, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:10 (eighteen years ago)

Anything happening night of December 8, Saturday? I'll be in town that weekend and might be free that night (Friday night is already spoken for).

Ned Raggett, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:15 (eighteen years ago)

I'll probably be having a baby that night

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:50 (eighteen years ago)

(tickets are $3,000 apiece)

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 26 October 2007 17:52 (eighteen years ago)

btw I am currently massively depressed/pissed that our vinyl manufacturer appears to have fucked up and now we won't have records for our "record release" show. which cannot be rescheduled or pushed back. wonderful.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 26 October 2007 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

you can sell ours instead.

akm, Friday, 26 October 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

also, I would pay more than $3k to see you have a baby

akm, Friday, 26 October 2007 18:16 (eighteen years ago)

Ned: I'm always down to visit City Beer Store. Always

The Macallan 18 Year, Friday, 26 October 2007 20:04 (eighteen years ago)

Steve Shasta, Friday, 26 October 2007 20:18 (eighteen years ago)

Macallan you drunk. (There'll be some sort of FAP talk on ILE I'm sure.)

Ned Raggett, Friday, 26 October 2007 20:19 (eighteen years ago)

man, i totally want to go to that Glass Candy show, but it looks like it's at the Fillmore and is 18.50. not stoked on paying that much for an opening band if i'm gonna leave before headliner. boo

jaxon, Friday, 26 October 2007 21:39 (eighteen years ago)

me too dude. maybe dolphinella can hook us up on zee list.

Steve Shasta, Friday, 26 October 2007 21:46 (eighteen years ago)

jaxon: check their tour calendar if you want to wait:

Nov 24 2007 11:45P FRISCO DISCO San Francisco

mfleming, Saturday, 27 October 2007 00:28 (eighteen years ago)

I had soooooooo much fun when I was in San Fran last week--saw Magik Markers w/Ben Chansy, went to the Boris/Om in-stores, Matthew Dear/Mobius Band at Mezzanine was fun, bought lots of records at Amoeba and Aquarius, ate lots of great food (Metro Kathmandu is really good Nepalese food, if you haven't been)

Atlanta is nice and all music-wise, but I can't imagine having the selection and having to make such choices about which shows to see...I wanted to see Modeselektor at Kontrol, but Matthew Dear won on account of my cousin's roommate's electro group opening the show

Malcolm Money, Saturday, 27 October 2007 02:43 (eighteen years ago)

"my cousin's roommate's electro group" = Cameron Octigan's electro group

funny coincidence...i didn't see who started the thread in the first place

Malcolm Money, Saturday, 27 October 2007 02:50 (eighteen years ago)

ha. i was gonna say that was cameron's group (hours of worship). i have yet to see them, even though i hang out w/dude

jaxon, Saturday, 27 October 2007 18:24 (eighteen years ago)

oh, mike, thanks for the heads up on glass candy

jaxon, Saturday, 27 October 2007 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

There's a party on Friday w/ M.A.N.D.Y. and Damian Lazarus. I'm pretty sure it's at 150 Folsom Street.

Shakey Mo Collier, Monday, 5 November 2007 22:22 (eighteen years ago)

yeah one of the most consistent places that you can go to hear great music in the city. but the size will be a factor. hopefully they have presale otherwise it's going to be a madhouse.
