i think its an incredibly empathic record in a way that many big pop records dont tend to be anymore. its got a certain 'kindness' or lovingness about it which is what makes it more retro (in a pretty great way for me). but yeah, i think the compassion might be undone for a lot of people though in that it might seem a bit too soft or naive or just silly with the vocoders everywhere. but that neil tennant interviewer is totally right about this being an album that backs away from the edm race, but you knew that anyway from the first piece rolling stone did on the album...

I'm at the Red Sox game and the organist is jamming out to Get Lucky with the Casio beat in the bgd.

The 10 minute Get Lucky remix is on Spotify now.

― StillAdvance, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 11:00 (twelve years ago)
(after listening) they should have gotten todd edwards to do it.
― StillAdvance, Wednesday, 26 June 2013 11:19 (twelve years ago)
real missed opportunity this. there's a killer extended remix in that track but this isn't it. it's really meandering and most of the choices are boring/bad ones until the outro.
― Shamrock Shoe (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 26 June 2013 11:32 (twelve years ago)
this is dope
― Romantic style in da world (crüt), Wednesday, 26 June 2013 12:56 (twelve years ago)

This album gives me fantasies of panicked brosteppers running pell-mell through the streets like Charlton Heston, screaming "EDM IS DISCO!"
― something of an astrological coup (tipsy mothra), Thursday, 27 June 2013 14:12 (twelve years ago)
Also I don't know where ILM is on "Blurred Lines" these days, but that + "Get Lucky" at 1-2 on Billboard strikes me as a pretty classic summer single lineup.

And then we'll just ignore the three songs underneath them.

nile rodgers' guitar playing is as close to a pure statement of human ingenuity and compassion to me but this album is a huge disappointment
― goole, Thursday, 27 June 2013 15:37 (twelve years ago)
though i like the odd sequencing of the album, i made an alternate version (maybe after hearing the album too much, or maybe as i am also starting to think maybe it IS weird to have game of love right after give life back to music)

Snap! I've just reached the refresh-by-resequencing stage. This "front-load it with bangers" version worked today:

lol. i want someone to do a robot bonus beats mix of get lucky. ive noticed that although instant crush sounds like its nothing special, its still so well crafted that if this was 1984, it would prob make a great 4th or 5th single.
― StillAdvance, Thursday, 27 June 2013 16:02 (twelve years ago)
actually, its instant crush's non-obviousness/deceptive album-filler status that makes it so replayable.
― StillAdvance, Thursday, 27 June 2013 16:03 (twelve years ago)
what is with the freakout rock drums on everything. what a terrible idea.

"rock"
― Jersey Al (Albert R. Broccoli), Thursday, 27 June 2013 17:03 (twelve years ago)
"Instant Crush" was a major re-sequencing beneficiary.
― mike t-diva, Thursday, 27 June 2013 17:19 (twelve years ago)
The tired little 'woah-oh' before the chorus is one of my top ten hooks on this, seriously
― Ismael Klata, Thursday, 27 June 2013 18:04 (twelve years ago)
I have never really payed attention to the billboard charts but having 'Blurred Lines' and 'Get Lucky' is the most synchronized I've ever felt with the mainstream.

sorry for the bad mouthed interruption ... please proceed as normal ..
― mark e, Thursday, 27 June 2013 22:10 (twelve years ago)
He he, yeh, that was rather ugly and clumsy, sorry.
More like occasionally there's a single that gets to number one on the back of the grey pound that doesn't have much to do with what's happening elsewhere in pop music. Would that be fairer?

Can't get my head round the fact that "Mull of Kintyre" is the 4th best-selling song of all time in the UK (and acc Wikipedia "remains the UK's best-selling completely non-charity single").

You should reply "Paul Jackson, Jr." as that is technically correct and besides his contributions are overshadowed quite a bit by Nile.
