jaymc did you hear it on B96? I heard it on there twice this weekend.
― http://threeframes.net (gr8080), Monday, 17 June 2013 14:24 (thirteen years ago)
one time it was followed by "blurred lines" heh
― http://threeframes.net (gr8080), Monday, 17 June 2013 14:25 (thirteen years ago)
Sonically "Get Lucky" doesn't fit into US Top 40 radio playlists as well as UK/Euro radio.
― ttyih boi (crüt), Monday, 17 June 2013 14:25 (thirteen years ago)
As someone with no experience of US playlists, why is this?
― they all are afflicted with a sickness of existence (Scik Mouthy), Monday, 17 June 2013 14:32 (thirteen years ago)
a particular kind of EDM rules.
I heard "Blurred Lines" on top 40 radio yesterday for the first time.
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 17 June 2013 14:33 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah the closest company it currently has is Bruno Mars' Treasure and Robin Thicke's Blurred Lines.
― MarkoP, Monday, 17 June 2013 14:35 (thirteen years ago)
and maybe Suit and Tie.
― MarkoP, Monday, 17 June 2013 14:36 (thirteen years ago)
"Why would anyone get lucky if they stayed up all night?" asked my daughter. "They should be singing 'we're up all night to get grouchy.'"

awww
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Monday, 17 June 2013 21:04 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah, I've now heard it on B96, KISS 103.5, and (lol) the Mix.
― Murder in the Rue McClanahan (jaymc), Monday, 17 June 2013 21:04 (thirteen years ago)
Some of it probably also has to do with the fact that Daft Punk had no previous footprint on Top 40 radio in the U.S.? I mean, Rihanna and Adele and Bruno Mars can get plenty of airplay with slow piano ballads, so it's not like it's thumping club beats all the time.
― Murder in the Rue McClanahan (jaymc), Monday, 17 June 2013 21:07 (thirteen years ago)
This isn't really that true anymore! I've been listening to commercial radio the past couple weeks for the first time in months and I've been surprised how little EDM-pop I hear and most of what I do is old. The only song in the current top 20 that even kind of qualifies is "I Love It".
That said, I've been hearing "Blurred Lines" on the radio way more than "Get Lucky".
― The Reverend, Monday, 17 June 2013 21:29 (thirteen years ago)
Get Lucky is not gonna be the runaway hit of the summer guys.
― i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Monday, 17 June 2013 21:29 (thirteen years ago)
More like Get REAL
― i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Monday, 17 June 2013 21:30 (thirteen years ago)
"Get Lucky" and "Blurred Lines" are #6 and #8 respectively on the most recent radio songs chart, I expect the latter will shoot way up in this week's. "Treasure" is #11.

was surprised @ how much I enjoy "Treasure"
― ttyih boi (crüt), Monday, 17 June 2013 21:35 (thirteen years ago)
I dunno, it feels really ersatz to me in a way "Get Lucky" should but doesn't. That's kind of a problem Bruno Mars always has and always will have.
― The Reverend, Monday, 17 June 2013 21:39 (thirteen years ago)
that 'hit of the summer' meme is really sticking, eh? It wasn't even about Get Lucky iirc
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 17 June 2013 21:40 (thirteen years ago)
I include "#Beautiful" in that list of Get Lucky's contemporaries.
― billstevejim, Monday, 17 June 2013 21:45 (thirteen years ago)
"#beautiful" is a million times the song "get lucky" will ever be but (SADLY AND UNFORTUNATELY) is not proving to be anything like a hit of the summer, which "get lucky" already is
― lex pretend, Monday, 17 June 2013 21:46 (thirteen years ago)
I savor so hard whenever Beautiful, Get Lucky and Treasure just happen to get played in succession on the radio.
― billstevejim, Monday, 17 June 2013 21:52 (thirteen years ago)
I'm fond of all the disco in the charts right now: "Treasure," "Blurred Lines," "Get Lucky," etc.
― Murder in the Rue McClanahan (jaymc), Monday, 17 June 2013 21:52 (thirteen years ago)
yeah I mean obviously "Treasure" is hella corny & pastiche-y & it's Bruno Mars but I still kinda dig it. it's flawed but it's not limp.
― ttyih boi (crüt), Monday, 17 June 2013 21:53 (thirteen years ago)
(x-post to Rev)
yeah, I agree. I don't mind it, but I don't think it's as good as the other songs in question.
― The Reverend, Monday, 17 June 2013 22:12 (thirteen years ago)
oh you're probably right! Glancing at the Billboard top twenty, I've heard maybe eight or nine locally. But Miami is saturated in Guettadom.
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 17 June 2013 22:14 (thirteen years ago)
There isn't going to be a Song of the Summer this year, guys. And I there is, it's going to suck, guys.
― Not Simone Choule (Eric H.), Monday, 17 June 2013 23:25 (thirteen years ago)
don't tell Pitbull that EDM-pop is dead.
― ttyih boi (crüt), Monday, 17 June 2013 23:34 (thirteen years ago)
this thread is pretty weird, i dig it. song is on all the time when i go to the gym. it's a hit in montana!
― illegalblues, Monday, 17 June 2013 23:51 (thirteen years ago)
Every time I read "song of the summer" I hear Giorgio saying "that could be a sound of the future".
― high inerja (seandalai), Monday, 17 June 2013 23:59 (thirteen years ago)
I'd not heard "Get Lucky" on the radio until this week, and this week I heard it four times. I've not yet heard that new Bruno Mars, somehow, nor the Mariah Carey.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 18 June 2013 02:59 (thirteen years ago)
daft punk: are they on the radio?
― http://threeframes.net (gr8080), Tuesday, 18 June 2013 04:50 (thirteen years ago)
they should make an app for that, it could use crowdsourced info
― i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Tuesday, 18 June 2013 04:55 (thirteen years ago)
this summer all around the world, they already had discotheques.

I'm ready for "Instant Crush" to get played on the radio, but I dunno if that's gonna happen. We'll see how "Lose Yourself to Dance" does.
― ttyih boi (crüt), Wednesday, 19 June 2013 21:35 (thirteen years ago)
I've only discovered "Horizon" a few days ago. It's great !reminds me of some Jan Hammer stuff for miami vice !(the robots could have their own TV show where they would be buddy robot cops. with cameos from giorgio, pharrell, etc).

I'm enjoying the idea that new converts to Daft Punk on the strength of Random Access Memories are going to be all like "hey, what album did they do before this!? gotta give that a listen!"
