idk it comes across as pretty obvious why a guy so clearly concerned with achieving legendary status and working in a genre that hasn't always been recognized adequately by The Grammys would want to win THE big award they offer instead of yet another untelevised award in the particular niche they've thrown him into, even if The Grammys itself is nowhere near as relevant as it used to be.

Greer, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 21:23 (thirteen years ago)

Wanting, sure. It remaining a primary talking point even on his "this album is about not giving a fuck and not bowing to corporations" campaign is pretty sad, though.

some dude, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

he's a dumdum wrapped in the smallest fiddle rolled up in an enigma.

scott seward, Wednesday, 12 June 2013 21:32 (thirteen years ago)

some dude otm w/ kanye and the grammys and awards show in general (only however much drake and whoever care about the grammys is how much kanye cares about the nick kids choice awards so you can imagine how much he cares about the grammys). this sketch predates the taylor swift incident by almost two years - http://www.hulu.com/watch/10349.

balls, Thursday, 13 June 2013 02:51 (thirteen years ago)

When were The Grammys relevant?

MarkoP, Thursday, 13 June 2013 03:10 (thirteen years ago)

back when Milli Vanilli were big iirc

Bathory Tub Blues (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 June 2013 16:21 (thirteen years ago)

michael jackson won a lot of grammys & pop stars want to be michael jackson

ttyih boi (crüt), Thursday, 13 June 2013 16:24 (thirteen years ago)

which is kinda sad considering how un-awesome michael jackson's life was

Bathory Tub Blues (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 June 2013 16:25 (thirteen years ago)

i think the super bowl ring/gold medal analogy is apt. huge world audience. top of the world, ma.

scott seward, Thursday, 13 June 2013 16:26 (thirteen years ago)

its still a way to gauge hugeness/godliness. you can't do it with record sales anymore. or very few people can. hard to hit DMX numbers let alone vanilla ice numbers.

scott seward, Thursday, 13 June 2013 16:31 (thirteen years ago)

I thought the super bowl ring for musicians was uh playing the super bowl

Bathory Tub Blues (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 June 2013 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

since that is now the musical event with the largest audience

Bathory Tub Blues (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 June 2013 16:32 (thirteen years ago)

yeah that too.

scott seward, Thursday, 13 June 2013 16:52 (thirteen years ago)

I think that’s a responsibility that I have, to push possibilities, to show people: “This is the level that things could be at.” So when you get something that has the name Kanye West on it, it’s supposed to be pushing the furthest possibilities.

nice

flopson, Thursday, 13 June 2013 17:23 (thirteen years ago)

sorry if this was posted already, but I think I'm changing my mind about this guy. He might really be a genius.
he might well be the andy kaufman of our time.

"I think what Kanye West is going to mean is something similar to what Steve Jobs means,
I am undoubtedly, you know, Steve of Internet, downtown, fashion, culture. Period. By a long jump.
I honestly feel that because Steve has passed, you know, it’s like when Biggie passed and Jay-Z was allowed to become Jay-Z."

- Kanye West

I wish Kanye would invent some cool new Apple devices

Moodles, Thursday, 13 June 2013 19:30 (thirteen years ago)

initial research indicates limited market for phone that interrupts all your calls with a message from Kanye

Bathory Tub Blues (Shakey Mo Collier), Thursday, 13 June 2013 19:32 (thirteen years ago)

lol

iatee, Thursday, 13 June 2013 19:34 (thirteen years ago)

My point was that the Super Bowl is actually universally acknowledged as important in football and actually means a winner is the champion team of pro football. Music has nothing that central that even remotely the majority of music fans can agree on, but the Grammys have enough symbolic weight to attract lames who think they can actually be 'champion of all music.'

some dude, Thursday, 13 June 2013 20:36 (thirteen years ago)

" But the thing is, I don’t care about the Grammys; I just would like for the statistics to be more accurate. "

iatee, Thursday, 13 June 2013 20:41 (thirteen years ago)

that was my favorite quote

iatee, Thursday, 13 June 2013 20:43 (thirteen years ago)

Grammyball

My Beautiful Dark Twisted Laundrette (Eazy), Thursday, 13 June 2013 20:47 (thirteen years ago)

my take: it's not the thing, but the principle of the thing. "why is there a music award that I am not winning?"

katherine, Thursday, 13 June 2013 23:54 (thirteen years ago)

J0rdan S., Friday, 14 June 2013 17:30 (thirteen years ago)

after three tracks it's roughly one million times better than MBDTF

Number None, Friday, 14 June 2013 17:32 (thirteen years ago)

where are you listening to it? i am downloading a thing from pirate bay but i am skeptical that it is the real thing.

Shock G Mo Collier (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 14 June 2013 18:02 (thirteen years ago)

Although the sound is sliiiiightly more fitting for this album than it was for MBTF.

Shock G Mo Collier (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 14 June 2013 18:04 (thirteen years ago)

Shock G Mo Collier (Spottie_Ottie_Dope), Friday, 14 June 2013 18:27 (thirteen years ago)

Well we needed our requisite album with reggae/dancehall influences what with it being a summer ending with the number 3. Just didn't expect it to be on a Kanye album of all things.

MarkoP, Friday, 14 June 2013 18:28 (thirteen years ago)

Mark Sussman ‏@marksussman 8m
So we just refer to the dude who leaked YEEZUS as YUDAS, right?

lols lane (Eazy), Friday, 14 June 2013 18:29 (thirteen years ago)

^^

otoh i feel like this is maybe just a prelude to some kind of actual-last-minute pre-release re-record in which an additional ten tracks are added & existing tracks are re-recorded incorporating low-bitrate webrip audio from the leak

actually i was just musing (in lieu of paying attention to 'hold my liquor' wtf is this zzz gash) how funny and kinda absurd it is to devote such reams of thinkpiece script on someone whose real great gift is to catch impulsive intuitive moodboard lightning in a bottle... like as if yeezy knows anything about this album other than it felt like a vibe at the time

i mean i know i guess you could say that about any art but still

Keep wanting to call this the brother school to /\/\ /\ Y /\, but the 40% of it I'm through's already killed that analogy dead.

"Spiritual brother school." Maybe.
