just quoting this here so that when LJ wakes up he remembers this promise.

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:33 (seventeen years ago)

Ok I thought this might miss out

of the 10 someone posted the other day, i think air france are probably the most vulnerable - only an ep, people might have voted for trax instead &c. but then people did seem to really love them. maybe cut "electrodribble" copy too, i have no idea if anyone is really into them.

lex pretend, Monday, 16 February 2009 17:35 (seventeen years ago)

I fancy electrodribble to do well Lex. It's replaced pop and indie as ILM music these past few years.

I still think Erykah Badu will be no1

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:38 (seventeen years ago)

agree that air france is a long shot. same with cut copy, but not quite as long. haven't heard the lindstrom, and it isn't really in my orbit, so i was inclined to hedge on that, too, but it seems to have a lot of strong supporters, so...

contenderizer, Monday, 16 February 2009 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

would LOVE to see EB take #1

contenderizer, Monday, 16 February 2009 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

Being big into my indie-friendly electrodribble, I bought the Cut Copy and Hot Chip albums and didn't vote for either, as they're basically not very good. I predict that they will both miss out.

Jamie T Smith, Monday, 16 February 2009 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

i just listened to that badu record again this AM in the car and it's great, but daaaamn what's with neosoul peeps addiction to meandering, boring ballads?

Yo, I just copped dat brand new Manity Kane cd. (M@tt He1ges0n), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:40 (seventeen years ago)

Musically are the numbers of points for nos 1 & 2 quite close or is it a runaway winner? (i don't think either way it will give a clue who will win as most people seem to be split between Erykah Badu and Portishead as winners)

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 16 February 2009 17:41 (seventeen years ago)

I hate boring ballads more than anything in the world. I think you put me off wanting to hear it M@tt

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

plus make-up sex != "hate fucking". FTR

contenderizer, Monday, 16 February 2009 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

actually I just hate ballads

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:42 (seventeen years ago)

Is there some story behind it that redeems "TV on the ... Radio" or is it the worst fucking band name ever, as it appears to be?

Jamie T Smith, Monday, 16 February 2009 17:46 (seventeen years ago)

imagine it tho

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:48 (seventeen years ago)

I just wish there was a surprise high entry how the fuck did that get there album to come. I suppose if Nick Cave did that kinda would do it, except for the fact he's been top 10 in every list last year practically. I don't expect him to make it in this one mind you.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:52 (seventeen years ago)

You know what I'm REALLY looking forward to? Seeing no's 60-51 just to see what almost made it.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:53 (seventeen years ago)

Followed by emil.y's posts of "if I had voted that would have made it"

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:54 (seventeen years ago)

ballad haterz have no souls. i don't think new amerykah has any meandering ballads in any case, not in the usual neo-soul vein anyway, but i guess we can talk about that when, hopefully, erykah takes her rightful place at the top of this pile.

if any of the 10 upthread don't get in, it's probably only to make room for hot chip or bon iver or blahzzzz :(

lex pretend, Monday, 16 February 2009 17:55 (seventeen years ago)

actually, looking at the list...is it just me or is it a rather male-dominated list so far? and most of the top 10 predictions are dudes too.

lex pretend, Monday, 16 February 2009 17:57 (seventeen years ago)

Who did you vote for Lex?

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 17:58 (seventeen years ago)

I don't think the word 'ballad' really aptly describes any song on New Amerykah except maybe "Telephone." I don't know what else you'd categorize the long R&B slow burners on the album as, but balladry seems way off.

I AM NOT NAS. NAS IS NOT A WINDOW (some dude), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:00 (seventeen years ago)

the ladies albums keep getting put back 6 months

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:01 (seventeen years ago)

the long R&B slow burners makes it sound even less appealing to me I'm afraid.

The User Formerly Known As Pfunkboy Latterly Known as.. (Herman G. Neuname), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:03 (seventeen years ago)

seeing as we're talking about it ahead of appearance; The only ballad-y tracks on EB's album are Telephone and That Hump - both have a subtle smoky warmth, musically, that i can get with (altho i like the first half of the album more).

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:05 (seventeen years ago)

TRUE. Whither thou Keri Hilson?

Johnny Fever, Monday, 16 February 2009 18:06 (seventeen years ago)

HGN, if you're waiting for someone to tell you that an Erykah Badu album doesn't have a lot of low key midtempo tracks before you can give a damn about listening to it then I don't think I can help you.

I AM NOT NAS. NAS IS NOT A WINDOW (some dude), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:10 (seventeen years ago)

Time for #9?

I fucking love this album. I love it cuz of its imperfections, silly metaphors, raspy uneven voice, for all the tracks that didn't make it, for all the pushbacks, for all the verses that dont fit and dont go anywhere. And its cuz of the cult of personality, of the feeling of event and of populist participation. I really dont understand how a rap fan would not be feeling this on some level. It's all over the place but not in a norm weezy-mixtape era, recording ten tracks a day kinda way. Its all over the place in a very concsious way. He had the sense to make songs like tie my hands and comfortable and dr carter in addition to got money and a millie and it would not have been that farfetched to expect an album of 16 tracks like the latter. This album isn't the blueprint but it is the carter iii

lil waynes babymama (musically), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

surprisingly low?

lil waynes babymama (musically), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:29 (seventeen years ago)

it tied with #8, but #8 had one more vote.

i don't like that cover

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:30 (seventeen years ago)

suckiness.

srsly?

Plaxico (I know, right?), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:35 (seventeen years ago)

it was my #1 album

lil waynes babymama (musically), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:36 (seventeen years ago)

it wasn't my #1 album; I think it was #6 for me...but besides Badu and The Fall, it was my only top 10 album to chart...

37 x 18 = (Drugs A. Money), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

nah that's about where i expected it to end up - midtable scores from the ringtone crew, higher scores from others. 4 number one votes does surprise me a little!

i'm not in any way part of a carter iii backlash - for me it's not even that inconsistent an album, it's just that it's senselessly arranged, doesn't hang together well and is less than the sum of its parts (not to mention in the shadow of that carter ii). the janet jackson and lil' mama albums were also like this - take the best songs in isolation and they're right up with the cream of 2008, but the idea of discipline or voice of the young people as ALBUMS was oddly wearying - tha carter iii not so much, cuz at least it wasn't as long, but it definitely had a similar effect on me. i found i only ever listened to it in three-song bursts at most.

lex pretend, Monday, 16 February 2009 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

i sound like i'm slagging it off too much - let me be clear i really love most of the songs on tha carter iii, i voted for it and was really pleased to see weezy's huge crossover success this year - this is just why it wasn't in my top 5 or anything, as i thought it would be when i first heard it

i'm richer than nicole and i'm a lion like her daddy

wayne's album was a lot more fun to fantasize about in the endless run-up and stream of leaks than it was to actually listen to, imo.

paper plans (tipsy mothra), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:42 (seventeen years ago)

and tvotr it seems to me have inherited the Big Important Band mantle that always needs to be held by someone. (recent emeritus: radiohead, u2, r.e.m.) which is fine, i guess, there are worse candidates out there. that i never actually want to listen to tvotr is sort of irrelevant to their position.

i know other people have already poounced on this but which songs were you referring to? 'me' could kind of be a ballad, too, but calling any of the songs on there boring is kinda o_0

Jewish Lager (k3vin k.), Monday, 16 February 2009 18:50 (seventeen years ago)

That Lil Wayne vid^^ People listen to whole albums of this stuff? It's unbearable!

DavidM, Monday, 16 February 2009 18:57 (seventeen years ago)

it's called "rap" music and it's sweeping the nation

and what, Monday, 16 February 2009 19:00 (seventeen years ago)

hahahahahahaaaaa

From Rax to Rich's (jjjusten), Monday, 16 February 2009 19:00 (seventeen years ago)

lala is pretty annoying though

Plaxico (I know, right?), Monday, 16 February 2009 19:01 (seventeen years ago)

i do like 'Dr Carter', and not just for the Axelrod (which actually feels kinda wasted as a hook source tho can see why it was picked for the concept)

O Supermanchiros (blueski), Monday, 16 February 2009 19:04 (seventeen years ago)

"La La" is awesome and definitely one of my favorite parts of the album (although "unbearable" is not an inaccurate description of Brisco's verse)

I AM NOT NAS. NAS IS NOT A WINDOW (some dude), Monday, 16 February 2009 19:06 (seventeen years ago)

i am surprised to see wayne end up that low. really like the album, and obv coming in 9th is still a pretty good nod. pretty sure a couple things that beat it are going to make my blood boil a bit, but whatever
