It's worth listening to for the guitar work and production, and a few of the songs hold my attention. I think Get Lucky is one of the lamest would-be summer hit songs ever. I can barely remember the hook.

I read "(good show)" in a posh brit accent

I pretty much love this album now. Every single time I listen to "fragments of time", I have a moment about halfway through the song where I have to tell myself "that guy, yknow the one singing, THAT'S TODD EDWARDS". I don't think this will ever change

I've listened to this at least once a day for the past two weeks, and I've barely wanted to listen to anything else. This hasn't happened in years.

Hope you can make that extra effort next time to lift your thumb to the "next track" button.

yes! I love that already having perfected "what you would expect a collab between daft punk and todd edwards to sound like", this time they went for "not what you would expect at all" and it's still totally dope

It's kinda cute that the lyrics of Fragments of Time are actually about the making of the song

Number None, Monday, 3 June 2013 09:32 (thirteen years ago)

the summer song is "#Beautiful," guys.

Josh in Chicago, Friday, 7 June 2013 12:29 (thirteen years ago)

So after a rather heated discussion on FB about the various merits/problems with this record, I decided to break out RAM again this morning and BY GOD it's a sadsack of an album. Initially I was ready to defend the aesthetic as 'music for people in their thirties, who used to go out raving, to drink tea and smoke weed to', but I'm second guessing that now.

I don't really have a problem with the content or the musical approach or the production - love all that - and taken individually the songs are great. But if there's anything about this that I've decided I don't like is that the RAM experience is such a downer. You have that marvellous introduction that's all like "WOO! YEAH PARTY TIMES" but then it totally sinks on 'Game of Love' - why was that the second track? It's pretty and everything but it's such a bummer. And then it doesn't really get grooving again until 'Lose Yourself to Dance' which is a great track but outstays its welcome by about two minutes. The first half of this album totally drags by - not the 'sitting around drinking tea and smokin good times' I first had it pegged as, more 'walking around with headphones hoping the rain won't mess up my circuit board' depressothon. If I had mates round I'd prob have to skip half the tunes.. It's a really disjointed record that could really do with better track sequencing - I like the songs individually but maybe they could have had side one as happy/side two sad?

Pingu Unchained (dog latin), Friday, 7 June 2013 12:31 (thirteen years ago)

And then it doesn't really get grooving again until 'Lose Yourself to Dance'

listen to giorgio by moroder again.

nagl dude dude dude (ledge), Friday, 7 June 2013 12:57 (thirteen years ago)

it doesn't do a great deal for me, that one, i'm afraid. it's okay i guess but the whole concept of starting with voice only and building up over 10 minutes doesn't do anything for the flow of this record. All the songs are fine within themselves but it's just not holding together for me as a collection. I might look into making a fantasy track sequence - maybe something like this?:

Contact
Give Life Back To Music
Doin' It Right
Touch
Fragments Of Time
Within
Motherboard

Giorgio By Moroder
Get Lucky
The Game of Love
Instant Crush
Beyond
Lose Yourself To Dance

Or something...

Pingu Unchained (dog latin), Friday, 7 June 2013 13:13 (thirteen years ago)

nah

conrad, Friday, 7 June 2013 13:29 (thirteen years ago)

i found the second half the radiohead/anco half tbh (fragments of time notwithstanding, and not to say i don't like the second half), so i pretty much totally 100% disagree with the idea that the first half is a relative downer.

caek, Friday, 7 June 2013 13:34 (thirteen years ago)

10 minute remix of Get Lucky coming out..... on 7"

Josh L, Friday, 7 June 2013 13:41 (thirteen years ago)

yessssssss

there are so many parts of "Get Lucky" that sounds like they're meant to be looped, especially the 4 bars before the vocoder comes in.

ttyih boi (crüt), Friday, 7 June 2013 13:44 (thirteen years ago)

radiohead?

http://threeframes.net (gr8080), Friday, 7 June 2013 14:04 (thirteen years ago)

xp yeah like all the parts where Pharell is not singing

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Friday, 7 June 2013 14:09 (thirteen years ago)

I also agree wrt problems with the flow of the record, really don't dig the long spoken intro to Giorgio by Moroder, and Touch is well-crafted enough but what is it doing there?

i don't even have an internet (Hurting 2), Friday, 7 June 2013 14:13 (thirteen years ago)

re: radiohead, i guess i'm still moaning about the ending of motherboard, but also, and doubtless i'm imagining this, the people who seem to prefer "the second half" seem like in rainbows fans. of course the premise of this discussion involves overstating the difference between the two halves too.

caek, Friday, 7 June 2013 14:22 (thirteen years ago)

for me motherboard sticks out way, way more than touch. touch is of a piece with the rest of the album. my problem with motherboard is not that it should be sequenced differently, it's that it belongs on a fridge album ca. 2002.

caek, Friday, 7 June 2013 14:26 (thirteen years ago)

to be clear though: this album rules.
