I like showing the 12" to teenagers and seeing if they can figure out what it is.

if ILM didn't like the song it would not have shown up in the Top 10. "Blue Monday" had over exposure to deal with and it still landed at number 9.

in other words, i'm impressed with its standing. a true classic, still in 2013.

Also most of us prefer Fanta Orange to Sunkist, which didn't help.

More seriously, I feel like most of my top ten, save the top three, could have gone in almost any order. New Order's singles and best album tracks just have a very large top tier.

I hear the '88 remix a bunch on one of the local commercial radio stations.

In the early-mid 2000s Blue Monday felt like the token 'pop' moment on a million electro house mixes.

Except maybe for my #1 (and absence of "Blue Monday"), this is like all my ballots where I'm just a casual fan--what a K-Tel best-of would look like:

RE: 'Blue Monday'
Yeah, I didn't place it that high for two reasons: 1) I figured it was a lock for the top ten, if not the top five and 2) I like it, yet it's never been my favorite anything. It's certainly a landmark moment in pop music, and a darn catchy tune, but they also have such a strong catalogue. It's really remarkable when you think about the high quality of their output up until the early 90's.

Overall, I am disappointed in the top five, but I can't honestly say that it's not totally representative of some of their best work — which just speaks volumes about how great they were (and still are, to a certain degree).

Saw bunches of NO 12" at the record store yesterday -- the new arrivals bin looked like someone ~ 4 yrs older than me unloaded her entire youth into the bin. It was kinda sad!

My ballot. I've always thought of them as one of the best singles bands ever, so I didn't rank the albums, but this poll encouraged me to seek out good album tracks ("Your Smiling Face" was the big find for me, plus I've always loved "Close Range").

the vote count you posted for the songs was complete right? we should be able to figure out the answer to that from those figures.

I always under-rate Temptation, probably because I have the original 7" and the snare is mixed too damn loud. Later mixes reveal the true glory of the tune. Anyway, I guess my ballot is pretty uncontroversial, although I would have liked to see Chosen Time and Ecstasy place higher than they did.

I posted a link to my Spotify playlist on Facebook and the only reaction I've gotten so far is "NO BIZARRE LOVE TRIANGLE????"

BLT's there, no? Maybe I chose a source that's not licensed in all territories.

I would have guessed there was more love out there for "The Him". Certainly my favourite Movement track behind "Dreams Never End". (Which I thought was obvious top 10 material, for that matter, so I'm quite clueless.) More colour and movement than other still-sounds-like-Joy-Division dirges like, say, "In a Lonely Place".

My cassette of PCL was a weird one! Black plastic with white print... I think it had Spanish legal on it.

Listened to Republic on my ride into work today. I think a lot of the lyrics to World were taken directly from meetings about the demise of Factory.

Looking at this record label makes me imagine what Technique would be like in Spanish...
