I'm gutted because I know that 'Ceremony' is going to place higher than it now, and it really doesn't deserve to.

so there isn't much drama left but we are down to the Top 3 according to ILM.

True Faith, Ceremony and Temptation. Hopefully placing in order of release, Ceremony at 1.

Best version is the live one from the video. "Temptation" may take it.

I love this band, their highs and their lows, the valleys and the hills. No other group means as much to me.

Despite "The Perfect Kiss" being a fan favourite, the song was not performed live between 1993 and 2006 due to the complexity of converting the programs from the E-mu Emulator to the new Roland synthesizer. However, it returned to the live set at a performance in Athens on 3 June 2006.

Don't get this at all. The enthusiastic, ramshackle element of the band shines through in this song more than many others. Yes, there's a sequencer, but you also have Hooky's bass, the cowbell, hand-played synths, drum pads, guitar...

I'm looking at my ballot now, and kinda wishing I'd swapped it with 'True Faith'... :/

This is playing out exactly right. As long as Temptation is next.

True Faith was the first New Order song I consciously heard (on the American Psycho soundtrack!). It intrigued me enough to get sucked deeper and deeper into their work, but the song has never been a favourite.

It's playing out exactly right if you believe that New Order didn't top their first single, which is absolute bollocks.

Pleased with the top 5, though I'm sick of "True Faith," myself. However the top 2 fall is fine with me.

New Order wrote and recorded "True Faith" and "1963" during a 10-day studio session with producer Stephen Hague. The two songs were written as new material for New Order's first singles compilation album, Substance 1987. After the two songs were recorded, the band's US management decided that "True Faith" was the stronger track and would be released as the new single, with "1963" as the B-side. "1963" was remixed and issued as a single in its own right in 1994.

"True Faith" was never used as a track on a regular album, though it did appear on most of New Order's "best of" collections (Substance 1987, The Best of New Order, Retro, Singles and International). The first public performance of the song took place at the 1987 Glastonbury Festival; this version appears on the group's BBC Radio 1 Live in Concert album.

The original 7" version of the song did not appear on any album until 2011's "Total from Joy Division to New Order".

There's been a few times over the years that I've thought that I was getting tired of 'True Faith', but really I never seem to. There's been pieces of music I've listened to death over the years where even if I take a break from it and come back to it, it seems to have lost its power through a lot of listens. When I haven't heard 'True Faith' for a while and I find myself listening to it again, it still remains as potent as ever.

True Faith, Silent Morning, The Promise and Pure Energy were in constant rotation and probably my favorite era of Pop radio in the States.

like, temptation was still raw enough in the margins that you wouldn't be betraying your indie ideals

It's not so much upset, it's called passion, and if you have none then you're on the wrong forum. Likewise, if this is how you get your kicks then I guess it's not so bad if 'Ceremony' isn't #1 after all... I mean, no matter what places and where it places, I clearly don't have a life as colossally empty as yours seems to be :) Dark in that basement, is it?

Yeah... I think this is ultimately one of the problems that I have with 'Temptation'. I like it, and I think the chorus is catchy as all hell, yet I'm not totally convinced they recorded a really great version of it. Where they seemed to nail a lot of other tracks in the studio, I don't think they got the best out of this one whenever they came to record it. I'm sure if it had been produced in a Technique kind of way, I would love it without any reservations.

Did you hear the version they rerecorded in 98? Think it was 98, anyway, it's quite good and may fit your tastes.

the idiosyncratic production (to put it generously) on the original 7"/12" of temptation are definitely part of their appeal. the song's charm and passion shine through the murk.

the '87 version has one of barney's best-ever vocals

temptation '98 is alright

my favourite version of all is probably their performance from the 1981 Taras Shevchenko video, where it wasn't even fully hashed-out yet!

Maybe you should take a look at your own, then, they're a revelation to say the least. I mean, I've only read a couple of your posts and I've suddenly found myself surprised that amoebas now have internet access. Huh, guess you lot are evolving though, so that's good.

I think my problem with Temptation is that I knew the remix first, which is dreadful.
