Probably just Your Silent Face and Age of Consent now.

Kitchen Person, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:35 (thirteen years ago)

In fact, all throughout Technique I end up getting this fucking real giddy life-affirming feeling... like I'm massively in love or E'd up to the eyeballs, or something. No other New Order album does that for me, and it's a huge part of Technique's appeal for me.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:35 (thirteen years ago)

Blows my mind that every single track from Technique managed to place (and quite well!)

Millsner, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:36 (thirteen years ago)

Damn. True Faith came up on my Spotify - "I feel so extraordinary" so I made a martini.

kraudive, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:36 (thirteen years ago)

any expectations for World in Motion?

Millsner, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:37 (thirteen years ago)

The kind of double-negative in "I can't be owned by no one" feels wrong when coming from a British singer. Same with "just can't function no more" in LWTUA.

I find the love for Technique as puzzling as some of you find my love for Movement. I like it, but it doesn't move me like the early stuff, and somehow feels more dated today than the records that came before it.

I've just thrown Technique on and I'm doing my best Bernard-dancing-like-a-bell-end-on-Top-Of-The-Pops routine :)

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:40 (thirteen years ago)

Technique:

9 Dream Attack
10 Vanishing Point
18 All The Way
19 Round & Round
21 Fine Time
23 Run
32 Mr Disco
39 Love Less
41 Guilty Partner

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:40 (thirteen years ago)

Technique is my second favourite album of all time. I've been listening to it a bunch for this poll and falling in love with it all over again. I didn't vote for every song but if I'd had another five spots I probably would have done. I wouldn't change a single thing on that album.

Kitchen Person, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:40 (thirteen years ago)

Technique's day-glo production -- the first time their self-productions sounded expensive -- suits the sleeve and mood.

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:41 (thirteen years ago)

PC&L should be the track runner-up then, which mirrors the album poll results.

Millsner, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:42 (thirteen years ago)

Wait, Low-Life.

4 songs vs. 5?

Millsner, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:42 (thirteen years ago)

These are the results from the Technique poll from 2007.

Fine Time 13
Dream Attack 12
Round & Round 11
Run 11
Vanishing Point 10
All the Way 6
Mr Disco 4
Love Less 2
Guilty Partner 1

Don't think it'll express itself now.

9. Blue Monday
From: Blue Monday
Released: 7 March 1983
946 Points, 33 Votes, 1 Number One

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:49 (thirteen years ago)

Wow, surprise this is so low. Only one number one vote!

Kitchen Person, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:52 (thirteen years ago)

surprised

Kitchen Person, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:52 (thirteen years ago)

Speaks volumes about the quality of New Order that a song as universally loved as Blue Monday barely makes the top 10.

brotherlovesdub, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:52 (thirteen years ago)

Gotta be the least #1 votes for a track in the top 10.

Millsner, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:53 (thirteen years ago)

no matter where this one placed it was going to get a weird reaction.

oddly i think ILM got it just about right.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:53 (thirteen years ago)

i know 'regret' and 'true faith' were the biggest real time hits new order had in america but am i crazy thinking that 'blue monday' and maybe 'bizarre love triangle' have supplanted them on radio, in the hearts of my countrymen, etc since then?

balls, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:55 (thirteen years ago)

blue monday was my #1

ttyih boi (crüt), Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:55 (thirteen years ago)

or maybe not oddly.

Bee OK, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:55 (thirteen years ago)

It was so hard to know where to put that on my list, it's obviously a great song but I never put it on out of choice anymore.

Kitchen Person, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:55 (thirteen years ago)

yeah arguably overplayed monoliths like this are rarely serious contenders in ilx polls, 'light my fire' placed outside of the top five in the doors poll a few days ago for example

balls, Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:56 (thirteen years ago)

any expectations for World in Motion?

I was scared! I didn't listen to any of their 90's stuff till years later after hearing it.

and I'm glad "Blue Monday" is out of the way. Casio presets and coke make the biggest selling 12" of all time?!?!

I'll take the jangle-jangle over the throb-throb (brg30), Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:58 (thirteen years ago)

How... does it feel... when a new day has begun?
When you're drinking in the sunshine... Sunkist is the one!
When you need a taste for living... Sunkist is the one!

xp Speaks volumes about how much this has been played on radio and tv commercials. It's been over played. It is a masterpiece of 20th century music.

"since then" no "since ALWAYS"

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 1 June 2013 01:59 (thirteen years ago)

Oh yeah, 'Blue Monday' has totally been overplayed... but usually tracks get overplayed with good fucking reason! (See also: 'Enjoy The Silence')

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:00 (thirteen years ago)

I'm biased cuz I live in Miami but the Shep Pettibone remix of "Bizarre Love Triangle," like, never went away. When Frente showed how you can play the song in a "real" manner it amused us no end -- the damn thing was an anthem.

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:00 (thirteen years ago)

i still get a thrill hearing it, esp in public spaces. at braves games they'll do a quick poll by applause from the crowd early in the game to determine what song they're going to play during the seventh inning stretch, i can remember being at one game on a monday and the choices were 'monday, monday', 'manic monday', and 'blue monday' and 'blue monday' won pretty easily (i cheered for 'manic monday'). that beat nicked from 'our love', the progression, that one nervous cricket synth line: still works.

balls, Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:01 (thirteen years ago)

is it heretical to love the '88 remix of "Blue Monday" as much as the original? I do. I love how it packs so many odd sounds in four minutes.

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:01 (thirteen years ago)

I still love that story about how when they played 'Blue Monday' live on Top Of The Pops, the single went down the charts! Heh heh heh... (not to mention the story about how the sleeve was so expensive, they were losing money as the damn thing sold!)

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:03 (thirteen years ago)

the first version of "Blue Monday" I heard was a midi version in a freeware PC pac-man game circa 1999. I never knew it was used in television ads.

song is brilliant

Unrelated to New Order post: I've got 'Some Distant Memory' on from the first Electronic album and I swear, that outro... when it crops up I always feel like the clouds in my mind are parting to reveal the most perfect blue sky imaginable, with the most intense sunlight bursting through... it's so beautiful it makes me want to weep oceans, man.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:11 (thirteen years ago)

Sorry, Cure fans, but Disintegration- era music bit this so hard

why I love ILM

I love how it packs so many odd sounds in four minutes

as I said I know so little New Order or the kind of received opinions about them, so this may be very banal or very wrong, but I enjoy how for such a massively successful band there seems to be a kind of earnest, enthusiastic amateurishness to them, from Sumner's singing and lyrical clunkers to the way they throw so much into some songs (e.g. the frog noises in 'The Perfect Kiss', hey sure why not).

Bob Bunsen (Merdeyeux), Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:16 (thirteen years ago)

'Your Silent Face'... ah, this makes me feel somewhat a different way... it's quite personal, this, but whatever: about three years ago my grandfather passed away after a long struggle with various illnesses... On the day of the funeral, I was taken into the room where his body was in the coffin... there was just me, me father and my mother there, in this room... and as anyone who has seen a dead relative will know, there's this curiously odd feeling... you're looking at a person that you once knew, but that person isn't there anymore. The shell is there, but the person that occupied that shell... well, they're somewhere else. Naturally, I burst into tears. Another relative of mine burst into the room while I was grieving, and I felt incredibly angry that he'd just burst in there without knocking or anything... I just found it a bit inconsiderate. This song... reminds me of that.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:18 (thirteen years ago)

So yeah, I mean... this is probably not what Bernard Sumner had in mind while he was writing his lyrics... but yeah, this song means a hell of a lot to me.

The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:20 (thirteen years ago)

Shocked this isn't top 3.

No need to be so guarded! This is massively OTM.

Millsner, Saturday, 1 June 2013 02:23 (thirteen years ago)

so now we are breaking into the elite. the reason i say that is every song in the Top 7 past 1000 points.
