All the Way lyrics so poignant!! Love.

We're only missing Vanishing Point and Dream Attack, and I know how ppl go nuts over those.
― Millsner, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:15 (thirteen years ago)
Agreed on All The Way being way too low. My favorite song on Technique. I thought it was cheeky of Hook to steal the bassline from Just Like Heaven. It's like they were getting back at the Cure for ripping them off on In Between Days.
― righteousmaelstrom, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:17 (thirteen years ago)
Just noticed that the title track of Waiting for the Sirens' Call sounds like a great Fountains of Wayne song.
― Naive Teen Idol, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:19 (thirteen years ago)
"Leave Me Alone" is mysterious, I think it's about the last living person but it's probably about drugs
in my top 10

woo hoo, the only song on Movement I really like
― Euler, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:29 (thirteen years ago)
I guess it's my turn to say "TOO LOW"!
― Nag! Nag! Nag!, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:31 (thirteen years ago)
heresy i know but DNE was the only track from movement in my ballot. i never connected with it that strongly, not sure why, considering i adore the singles from the NO/Hannett period.
also does anyone else prefer the peel versions of some of those movement tracks?
― crabby pate (electricsound), Friday, 31 May 2013 22:32 (thirteen years ago)
Nag! Nag! Nag! OTM .I thought "Dreams Never End" and "Leave Me Alone" would have been in the top 5.
― I'll take the jangle-jangle over the throb-throb (brg30), Friday, 31 May 2013 22:33 (thirteen years ago)
consider what they're up against
― crabby pate (electricsound), Friday, 31 May 2013 22:34 (thirteen years ago)
"All the Way" was the moment I realized Technique was going to be awesome
yes yes yes. That bass is so damn tight -- one of the few times Hook played a "traditional" bass line (i.e. holding the rhythm, period)?

LITERACITES
Definitely too low. I like the Peel versions of the 'Movement' stuff about as much as their album counterparts. They're a bit more restrained. 5-8-6, OTOH, towers over the PC&L version.
I always love hearing older bootlegs with DNE for Hooky's unhinged vocals... "SOOOOOOOOUUUUULLLLLL!"
― Millsner, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:37 (thirteen years ago)
Everything is going to be too low at this point

Love for Movement perplexes me, and probably the band too. Joy Division methadone at best.
― Deafening silence (DL)
Yeah I have to say I agree with this, easily the weakest of their 80's albums for me. I only voted for Dreams Never End from that album but I did vote for Ceremony and Procession.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:50 (thirteen years ago)
I was hoping Thieves Like Us would be top ten, It's was my number two. So much to love about that song, the way it builds is stunning. One of the great Barney vocals too.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:51 (thirteen years ago)
my #4
simply one of the best songs of all-time.
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:51 (thirteen years ago)
I voted for 'Dreams Never End', but in no way is it any better than 'Doubts Even... *abandons reply*
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Friday, 31 May 2013 22:53 (thirteen years ago)
"Thieves Like Us" received just 3 points ahead of "Dreams Never End." DNE had more voters with 32 votes to TLU 28 votes.
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 May 2013 22:54 (thirteen years ago)
There's only one more spot for Regret to take without breaching the top 20. Will ILM be burned to the ground or not? I guess we'll know soon.

Dreams Never End was my highest-ranked song off of Movement. It went from being probably my favorite NO track to somewhere around 4th or 5th. I think it was described in the Trouser Press Record Guide as akin to not scratching an itch and I think that is an apt description.
― righteousmaelstrom, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:04 (thirteen years ago)
I voted for regular and instrumental Thieves btw.
― free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:05 (thirteen years ago)
Also dreams never end is hypnotic best early NO sound. All gold!! This poll is pure gold.
― free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:06 (thirteen years ago)
"Thieves Like Us", more than any other track, has seriously gone up in my estimation other the years. Seemed a tad thin and half-baked when I first heard it a couple years after release. Now it's quite clearly the godhead. Sort of. The long intro now sounds lovely, ridiculously affecting. Maybe I've also grown to see the profound truth in the statement "love is the air that supports the eagle", etc. :)
― Nag! Nag! Nag!, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:06 (thirteen years ago)
For years I thought he was singing "love is the air that supports the ego"
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:10 (thirteen years ago)
eagle
i always thought it was 'ego' but i suppose it is barney we're talking about
haha xpost
― crabby pate (electricsound), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:10 (thirteen years ago)
Eagle? I thought it was ego. Seriously.
― free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:10 (thirteen years ago)
Haha!! Oops
Eagle is a much lovelier image.
― free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:11 (thirteen years ago)
"Thieves Like Us" is so close to being perfect, but Bernard's vocals can never be perfect, which normally I just accept as part of New Order's charm, but in this case I generally just opt for the instrumental.
― ttyih boi (crüt), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:11 (thirteen years ago)
Glad it wasn't just me. I'm not actually sure which I prefer, I think it could work both ways.
I wonder if they've played Thieves live that much. I can imagine it would be a great set opener.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:14 (thirteen years ago)
Wow lots to catch up on but I'm still in the aggrieved camp re DEH:
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:53 (Yesterday)
The Village is lush. One of one only three not singles I voted in my ten.

Age makes "Thieves Like Us" more compelling.
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:18 (thirteen years ago)
"Love Vigilantes" received just one more point than "Thieves Like Us" with one number one that pushed it over the top.
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:19 (thirteen years ago)
I made my mom listen to Love Vigilantes when I got the Low Life tape from the library and she liked it.
― free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:19 (thirteen years ago)
Another perfect song that didn't even make my top ten. Love the lyrics so much. I saw them at Glastonbury 2005 and they played this, I was chuffed.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:20 (thirteen years ago)
Ah yes, 'Love Vigilantes'... great track... a song that I have a lot of time for, a recording that most certainly could have been a lot better (although I guess I could say the same for a lot of New Order's stuff). If only Melodyne had existed in 1985...
― The Jupiter 8 (Turrican), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:20 (thirteen years ago)
There are days when this is my favourite song, ever.
― Millsner, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:21 (thirteen years ago)
agreed, this list is sick.
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:22 (thirteen years ago)
I'm refreshing this page every few seconds now. I'm fairly sure I voted for everything that is yet to place so no complaints really, I just hope Regret made the top ten.
― Kitchen Person, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:25 (thirteen years ago)
Never "got" this one. I've always thought "Love Vigilantes" was just added at the last minute filler because there wasn't enough songs for Lowlife. My #40.
― I'll take the jangle-jangle over the throb-throb (brg30), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:26 (thirteen years ago)
But it's so much more "written" than 2/3 of NO songs -- it has a story, ffs. Can't be tossed off IMO.
― free your spirit pig (La Lechera), Friday, 31 May 2013 23:27 (thirteen years ago)
slightly suspect lyrics on LV, or genius? It's always difficult to tell with Barney. Great song though.
― kraudive, Friday, 31 May 2013 23:28 (thirteen years ago)
Oh there goes my number1..
