It's the 12" single that's nearly 10 mins long, I think the PIP version is about 6 minutes

i understand them cutting it down for Substance, they needed the room. what i don't understand is why on the 2CD set that Rhino released in 2008 still has the shorter version. they could have easily put out the 10 minute version on that comp and have it on CD for the first time.

I've never heard it but maybe the extra four minutes are Bernard farting into the mic.

I'm a lover of 'Shellshock' and proud... it just has one of those choruses that appears in my head just out of nowhere and I'm all like "yup, I must listen to that immediately". The only criticism I can level at 'Shellshock' is that perhaps its production treatment hasn't aged as well as a lot of other '80s New Order tracks.

Brought Substance to the car dealer. Went for a test drive with her, played Shellshock loud and she was blown away by the sound system in the car. Don't think she had heard panning like that or electronic music before so it made an impact.

lyrics are a problem for All Day Long imo. My 29, but I think of them as Barney at his clumsiest, and they're both serious and front-and-centre. They get in the way for me.

I'm still catching up on the playlist but it really throws me that one of the synth lines in "All Day Long" sounds like the beginning of "The Little Drummer Boy"

Love for Movement perplexes me, and probably the band too. Joy Division methadone at best.

The appeal of Movement for me is the way that it sounds... I can't help but love the production on it, even if it *is* somewhat lighter in tone than the Hannett production treatments on the two Joy Division albums. I think I'd probably like Brotherhood a lot more if it didn't sound so scratchy and sloppy, and sounded more like Movement.

Movement rules because it was the only coherently assembled album with no outright clunkers or painful performances on it until Technique

It just sounds grey and indecisive to me. I should maybe try it again.

I'm sure i'm influenced by what i've read about their situation at the time but it sounds like a group of people overcome with inspiration, grief and fear. It took a while for me to really love I'm glad I stuck with it. Nothing else really sounds like it. Can you imagine if it had included Ceremony, In A Lonely Place and Procession?

there are seeds of the stuff I complain about in "Face Up" there but all of the components are working together instead of against each other; also Bernard doesn't sound like he's passing a kidney stone

I wasn't always into this, but it's one of the most joyous things they've ever recorded.

I absolutely love 'The Village', one of those New Order songs that fills me with so much joy I just wanna shake my arse, throw my arms wide and thank whatever forces are up there that music even exists. It's a thousand sunny days packed into under 5 minutes (or a lot of E, if you're that way inclined).

New Order really know their way around a 7-or-8-minute song. Temptation, Perfect Kiss, Thieves Like Us... I love how they just keep unfolding and unfolding until you're just surrounded by them.

It's the little things with this band that always get me: The "funk" guitar skittering throughout Chosen Time; the syncopated bass synth line that jumps an octave right at the end of The Village.

Yes, the Sound on Sound interview with the producer mentioned they weren't sure what would be the A-side until the very last moment.

"Lonesome Tonight" sounds like New Order and The Cure listening to each other and calling pax.

I just listened to lonesome tonight for the first time. it was awesome.

Record Mirror mix of this is the ultimate version. It's also one of the 3 Razormaid mixes but I can never remember which one.
