I've always really liked Touched By The Hand Of God; it's not in my top twenty but it seems kind of slight and I like that! Isn't there a story about Tony Wilson saying this had a chorus so was lame, whereas Blue Monday never did so was awesome? Tried to find something on google but nothing much comes up.

Oh, And I have the 45 for this as well. It may even be the first New Order I bought. Hmm.

There's a version of it on the Japanese version of Salvation (and maybe somewhere else) that just crushes the other versions.

Ah, the first New Order track I out-and-out loathe has placed. Never was the biggest fan of 'Touched By The Hand Of God', and to see it place over 'Guilty Partner' and 'Doubts Even Here' is frankly criminal. The video is brilliant, though.

I love 'Guilty Partner', whenever the chorus kicks in its an amazing moment... and that bit after the chorus and before the verses where the bass descends and the guitar climbs.

Elegia is too low as well.

According to drummer Stephen Morris in an interview with Select magazine in 1993, the album version of the song was a 5-minute highlight of a recording 17 and a half minutes long. As the internet became widely available, a poor-quality mp3, allegedly of this recording, surfaced in the mid-90's. I remember dropping like $20 for that 7" just so I could hear the first version of Ceremony. After I bought multiple copies of the green 12" that kept being the second pressing!

I was one of the #1 votes for Movement so that should have been higher than 4th, but I don't bow at the altar of Technique like most of you.

xp. Alfred, I know people always get C&W mixed up with "Mesh" thanks to someone screwing up the titles on the Substance b-sides disc/tape, but I have never heard of anyone mixing up C&W and "Hurt" before. :-/

Surprised this is so low. Doesn't bode well for the rest of Get Ready, either.

"Crystal" got just 1 more point then "In A Lonely Place." 24 people voted for it compared to 21 for "In A Lonely Place." it deserved to come out on top.

I love In a Lonely Place, but Crystal is where I am at these days.

Whoa. Shocked at this so low. Definitely means no Primitive Notion now. Easily one of the best songs they've done since the glory years of the mid80s.

maybe some Get Ready strategists sacrificed Crystal to boost... every other song from that album.

But, I have to say, as someone who was disgusted by Republic upon revisiting it for this poll, I'm pretty upset at this juncture.

It's identified as 'Mesh' on my copy of Substance, but upon further investigation, that song that's labeled 'Mesh' is clearly 'Cries and Whispers.'

I'm fucking befuddled.

Seems about right for "Crystal" tbh. Sooooo freakin' many definitive 80s tracks innit.

The track listing on Substance is wrong. What is Cries and Whispers they label as Mesh. Mesh is not on Substance at all.
