It's crazy for New Order to ignore Technique live.

really, i never thought about that but you are right.

I voted for every one of these.

'touched' was the first new order 45 i bought iirc
― i worked myself into a clam (electricsound), Thursday, 30 May 2013 23:50 (thirteen years ago)
(and probably the only 45 from back then i still own)
Beautiful sleeve on Touched. It wasn't released as a single in America so we had to get it on the BM88 12". It's the best side of that single.
― brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 30 May 2013 23:53 (thirteen years ago)
so the heavy metal band parody video of touched has something to do with the movie salvation? I never did get around to watching it.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Thursday, 30 May 2013 23:53 (thirteen years ago)
love this picture, top notch Millsner.
― Bee OK, Thursday, 30 May 2013 23:53 (thirteen years ago)
I've always really liked Touched By The Hand Of God; it's not in my top twenty but it seems kind of slight and I like that! Isn't there a story about Tony Wilson saying this had a chorus so was lame, whereas Blue Monday never did so was awesome? Tried to find something on google but nothing much comes up.
Oh, And I have the 45 for this as well. It may even be the first New Order I bought. Hmm.
― kraudive, Thursday, 30 May 2013 23:55 (thirteen years ago)
There's a version of it on the Japanese version of Salvation (and maybe somewhere else) that just crushes the other versions.
― brotherlovesdub, Thursday, 30 May 2013 23:56 (thirteen years ago)
Bernard "Ace" Albrecht, ha! I guess we should refer to Ace this way in the rest of the thread!?
― kraudive, Thursday, 30 May 2013 23:57 (thirteen years ago)
Love TBTHOG, especially with the video. Huge sound on this. Another in the great line of Ace lyrics that might be about wanking, too.

Ah, the first New Order track I out-and-out loathe has placed. Never was the biggest fan of 'Touched By The Hand Of God', and to see it place over 'Guilty Partner' and 'Doubts Even Here' is frankly criminal. The video is brilliant, though.
I love 'Guilty Partner', whenever the chorus kicks in its an amazing moment... and that bit after the chorus and before the verses where the bass descends and the guitar climbs.

Elegia is too low as well.

Wiki:
According to drummer Stephen Morris in an interview with Select magazine in 1993, the album version of the song was a 5-minute highlight of a recording 17 and a half minutes long. As the internet became widely available, a poor-quality mp3, allegedly of this recording, surfaced in the mid-90's. However, it was not until the release of the compilation boxset, Retro, in 2002 that the full recording officially saw the light of day. The song was used as the conclusion to the bonus fifth disc included with early releases of the set. The mp3 that found its way onto the internet did appear to be the same as the song later released. This version was also released on the 2008 Collector's Edition of Low-Life.Elegia is Latin for elegy.
The band have stated that the song was written in memory of Ian Curtis

I have a feeling that ceremony will be fine ;)
― Millsner, Friday, 31 May 2013 01:15 (thirteen years ago)
I remember dropping like $20 for that 7" just so I could hear the first version of Ceremony. After I bought multiple copies of the green 12" that kept being the second pressing!

My #6 -- the guitar sound on this is extraordinary.

― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 May 2013 01:29 (thirteen years ago)
These pictures are so great! Really enjoying this rundown.
I have realised there are a few tracks I really should have voted for that I inexplicably overlooked. eg Hurt. :(
― Culture Cub (I am using your worlds), Friday, 31 May 2013 01:29 (thirteen years ago)
Never mind. I've just realized that "Mesh" is a track I've never in my life heard.
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 May 2013 01:30 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, I'm a casual fan and hearing this countdown is blowing my mind
― g simmel, Friday, 31 May 2013 01:32 (thirteen years ago)
"Cries & Whispers" is deffo too low. Top 10 for me.
I was one of the #1 votes for Movement so that should have been higher than 4th, but I don't bow at the altar of Technique like most of you.
I voted for most of what has placed so far. Looking forward to more!
xp. Alfred, I know people always get C&W mixed up with "Mesh" thanks to someone screwing up the titles on the Substance b-sides disc/tape, but I have never heard of anyone mixing up C&W and "Hurt" before. :-/
― Kent Burt, Friday, 31 May 2013 01:33 (thirteen years ago)
I blame them: titles and so on.
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 May 2013 01:35 (thirteen years ago)
now I realize I've never owned "Mesh" in any form.
at this point i wonder whether my #2 didn't make the top 40 at all or it's a lot more popular than i thought

Should be higher: top twenty. What a fantastic shock to hear this in summer '01.
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Friday, 31 May 2013 01:40 (thirteen years ago)
Surprised this is so low. Doesn't bode well for the rest of Get Ready, either.
― Millsner, Friday, 31 May 2013 01:44 (thirteen years ago)
"Crystal" got just 1 more point then "In A Lonely Place." 24 people voted for it compared to 21 for "In A Lonely Place." it deserved to come out on top.
― Bee OK, Friday, 31 May 2013 01:47 (thirteen years ago)
I love In a Lonely Place, but Crystal is where I am at these days.
― the girl from spirea x (f. hazel), Friday, 31 May 2013 01:55 (thirteen years ago)
Whoa. Shocked at this so low. Definitely means no Primitive Notion now. Easily one of the best songs they've done since the glory years of the mid80s.
