I actually wonder whether people would be more receptive to the album as a whole if you were to swap 'Game of Love' and 'Get Lucky' around.
but loads of people like this album

lol otm it's not *that* bad
― caek, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:03 (thirteen years ago)
"game of love" is good.
― ... (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:05 (thirteen years ago)
I just think there should be a law against really slow second tracks (see also: Kid A)
― Deafening silence (DL), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:11 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah I dunno, it's fine in itself but it feels like a damp squib in between Give Life and Giorgio, it fucks up the album's flow and might work better elsewhere. I mean imagine Discovery with Something About Us in between One More Time and Digital Love.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:22 (thirteen years ago)
you'd think they'd have noticed that their track order was incorrect and fixed it after all the trouble they went to otherwise
― conrad, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:22 (thirteen years ago)

that sounds grouse, honestly
― the Quim of Bendigo (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:25 (thirteen years ago)
I get really angry about bad sequencing. It's like, come on, you've got all the right songs, just get them in the right order. I call this The Tusk Problem.

wait what tusk is beautifully sequences!

they probably forgot what with all the other stuff they had to do. can someone send them this thread?
― ... (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:35 (thirteen years ago)
Yeah bands never do things intentionally while still fucking up.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:41 (thirteen years ago)
Think it's a bit rich to call it fucking up. but then I think it's fine where it is
Make a playlist

human after all ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
they'll probably do a recall and repressing when they realise
― conrad, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:53 (thirteen years ago)
'game of love' definitely sets a downer mood for the whole album on yr first listen through
― 乒乓, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:55 (thirteen years ago)
Which is awesome.
― Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 10:56 (thirteen years ago)
It doesn't even work conceptually though. Give Life to Music and Giorgio are both making the same point whereas Game of Love belongs with the sad-robot stuff that comes later. That said, from Touch to the end is immaculately sequenced. Move GoL to between Lose Yourself and Touch and we're golden.
Man I really love this album.
― Deafening silence (DL), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 11:03 (thirteen years ago)
I've changed my mind about "game of love". I find it lovely now, it just took longer to grow on me !that said, I still think it would be better toward the end of the album.
― AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 11:19 (thirteen years ago)
well sorry guys but it's track two and that's the end of it. you can change your playlists but you'll always know you cheated.
― ... (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 11:23 (thirteen years ago)
maybe it's not the real version of the album that was released ?
― AlXTC from Paris, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 11:26 (thirteen years ago)
Lol Garda you would be the first to shoot down this milquetoast "respect the artists' aesthetic decision" bullshit on the Knife thread.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 11:28 (thirteen years ago)
it's called random access memories not precisely sequenced memories
― conrad, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 11:29 (thirteen years ago)
this is how it starts and then soon we'll be supposed to think digital love in between instant crush and lose yourself to dance, and hey i have an old track by another artist that is great there too and before you know it it's not an album at all, but a playlist.
― ... (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 11:32 (thirteen years ago)
There'll be blood on the streets.
― Matt DC, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 11:34 (thirteen years ago)
Isn't the little twiddling bit at the start of within about changing the key, because the first three tracks are in the same key? Which would mean that if they wanted to keep the key-change gimmick, all they can do is rearrange the first three tracks. In that light, GoL is in the best place - it can't be 1 or 3. I guess the question then is why did they want to hold on to that key-change gimmick? Is it really that important? It's like they wanted the flow to be one way, but its actually the other way.

The security guard should have patiently explained to Marlow that his choices are no more immune to criticism than anyone else's. That would have worked out well.

― crüt, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 13:04 (thirteen years ago)
"Give Life To Music" is the Overture; "The Game of Love" is the Prelude. Or something like that. Anyhow, they both introduce themes that are built on further down the line.
― mike t-diva, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 13:29 (thirteen years ago)
"The Game of Love" is pretty funky. I think if there's anything disrupting the flow there, it's the fadeout on "Give Life Back To Music."
― crüt, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 13:37 (thirteen years ago)
I usually open YouTube and listen to this instead of GOL to fix the sequencing problem https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=geVZYCcAdBc
― a very generous Cordoban (Sufjan Grafton), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 13:39 (thirteen years ago)
I don't feel like Game of Love really disrupts the flow of the album. It's pretty propulsive for a somewhat lower tempo track, the groove is really nice. It's probably the one track that I find myself comparing the most to Air, except in Air's hands it wouldn't have been nearly as funky.
― Moodles, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 14:03 (thirteen years ago)
It doesn't disrupt the flow. It introduces the flow.
― Not Simone Choule (Eric H.), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 14:05 (thirteen years ago)
It is the flow.
― Moodles, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 14:05 (thirteen years ago)
hang on it either doesn't work or is the best can we make up our minds
― conrad, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 14:08 (thirteen years ago)
they fucked up with game of love as track two. we all know it.
i myself tried to deny this this morning but after much soul searching i now accept, they fucked up and they fucked every one of us.

― Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 14:56 (thirteen years ago)
I had a dream the other night that Thomas Bangalter approached me and asked if I wanted to play drums for Daft Punk. I explained to him that I had a job and a baby, but he was like "No, it's totally cool, you can just play with us whenever your schedule permits, and you don't have to go on long tours or anything. We just really want you to play with us." So I said ok, and then I woke up. ;_;

OTM. For me, it was the song where I was like "ok I totally get this album and I know I'm going to love it"
― give life back to usic (The Reverend), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 19:25 (thirteen years ago)
Daft Punk dreams are the best, more please. I haven't had one yet, but every morning I wake up with a different song in my head. Today give life back to music, yesterday lytd, the day before was the panda bear one.
― Ismael Klata, Wednesday, 29 May 2013 19:25 (thirteen years ago)
I think the panda bear track is my favorite. Rhythm guitar features a little too heavily on the rest of the record for me, although I don't dislike it, just makes it feel too mellowed-out and samey.
― THIS IS NOT A BENGHAZI T-SHIRT (Hurting 2), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 19:29 (thirteen years ago)
like I came into it expecting one thing (sprightly disco a la "Get Lucky") but "Game of Love" made me realize I was getting something else (sadsack fusion jams) but fuckit I love sadsack fusion jams and wasn't expecting the album to be like that at all so it made for a great surprise
― give life back to usic (The Reverend), Wednesday, 29 May 2013 19:31 (thirteen years ago)
oh no, rhythm guitar! especially in hands of maybe the best rhythm guitarist ever
