Thread for coordinating the order and timing of ILM ballot polls

I had an idea today that was either brilliant or really stupid -- y'all be the judge. Each December when we start the EOY hiatus, we do a radio-button poll of the artist polls still to come -- "which one are you most looking forward to?" Winner gets to jump to the head of the line in February.

I kinda like that idea actually! Lets us keep the organized, take-your-turn system of the polls while introducing a little big of unpredictability so it doesn't just feel like waiting out an endless countdown.

That's what I was thinking! And doing it just once a year wouldn't be too disruptive, and doing it during the hiatus would give the poll-runner time to prepare.

during Carnival, the artist being polled should run a poll of ILX posters. we can kickstart the funds for this.

I think a Thelonious Monk albums + tracks poll would be a winner, just trying to plant seeds.

with the love of big studio/session loving disco excess at the moment, i thought it time ILM threw some love to these labels given they both had a distinctive take on the DISCO thing.

of course i would never put myself in the position of being an expert on either, just that both labels are my main listening focus at the moment, and i would love the ILM hivemind to direct me into finding more excellence.

Would suggest waiting to see how the big disco poll turns out, PIR at least will have a good showing there.

So yeah, I was thinking I could compile the disco pre-nomination list and start the nomination thread this week, since I have some free time at the moment. Is it okay to run the nomination thread concurrent with the Motown and Stax nominations? Obviously I'd start the actual poll thread only after those two polls are finished. I'm kinda busy for the last two weeks of June, and the first couple of weeks of July I'll be in the US, so I won't have any time then, that's why I thought this would be the best time to start the nominations.

A full month for voting...would it make sense to have an artist poll going on during June as well?

Tuomas et al: Would it be ok to move the disco poll in front of Stax? I'm travelling for a lot of July and probably won't have time to run my poll properly.

Oh, just noticed Tuomas' post about not being around at the beginning of July. I don't mind shifting Stax back a bit and letting whoever wants to go before me.

Also, I think Disco, like Motown, is sort of on its own extended timetable separate from the other polls, et al.

Jay-Z would work too, if some dude is ready to go. But I know he was planning on regathering ballots/redoing the Neptunes poll during the Jay-Z poll, so I don't know if that requires more work.

I haven't asked a hoy hoy if he minded an artist poll running concurrently with Motown; hope I'm not stepping on his lines. It just seemed like a good opportunity to drop some other poll action into the mix this month. Much as I love Motown, I can't imagine listening to nothing but for 3.5 weeks, big discography or no.

I'm happy for artist polls to run. Especially Jay/Neptunes! I was listening to the Dynasty album on the way to work, I'd be v excited to revisit even more.

i kept voting for New Order open for 10 days, i think it worked perfectly.
