Any runout groove messages? (Or whatever they're called, you know, the "Porky Prime Cut" things)
― StanM, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 20:37 (thirteen years ago)
I'd have to check tonight. I definitely noticed writing but just assumed a signature and number.

lol from a 0.5 star (out of 5) user review on RYM (I know, I know, but this made me laugh):
"Get Lucky" is the only good song on the whole album. I am a Panda Bear addict,

xpost: My copy of the CD has a sticker which says "FEAT. GET LUCKY & LOSE YOURSELF TO DANCE". Obviously "Get Lucky" is the advance single, but does anyone know why LYTD is mentioned? Second single?
― President of the People's Republic of Antarctica, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 22:09 (thirteen years ago)
no, 'lose yourself to dance' is the name of my dog
― 乒乓, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 22:10 (thirteen years ago)
Been revisitng Touch today...nearly fully come round to it now...the vaguely-honky tonk breakdown puts me in mind of the end of Jim O Rourke's 'Happy Trails'. Which is obviously a very very good thing indeed*.
*weirdly, I heard that song playing in a nice restaurant in the post part of the North Norfolk coast at Christmas. Very weird moment. I was loving it; my family, not being into JOR didn't quite get why I was so excited.

would have thought a panda bear fan would've found something else to like amongst the other tracks tbh
― anonanon, Wednesday, 22 May 2013 22:17 (thirteen years ago)
Xxxpost: I posted a link somewhere upthread in which they confirm lose yourself as the second single and instant crush as the third one.

Mixing vocoders and actual vocals is such an effective trick, but I can't really think of it having been done before.

15 on billboard, rubbing elbows with drake and fall out boy
It's been in the top 20, but no higher than #14, for the past month. I'll be very curious to see how it does next week, though. Not only will it benefit from digital sales of the album, it was apparently only *officially* released to radio this week.
― i, norbit (jaymc), Wednesday, 22 May 2013 23:59 (thirteen years ago)
#10 this week
― MIGUEL 3D: THEY FLY @ U FACE (The Reverend), Thursday, 23 May 2013 00:19 (thirteen years ago)
Listening way too much to RAM the past week, it also made me revisit (yet again) Homework and Discovery. I love how a new album can put previous albums in a new light; in that a new album blows you away, redefines the current status of the band, yet also lengthens a bands career. With every new album the history of the band and their music becomes more defined, somehow. The career and discography as an always unfinished but ever redefined work.
Having said that: Discovery will never be topped, for me, I am fairly certain of that. We've probably done a poll on what's the best DP album before?
― Random ASMR Memories (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 23 May 2013 00:20 (thirteen years ago)
it was apparently only *officially* released to radio this week.
this explains why the version I kept hearing on the radio sounded like a 128kbps mp3!!!
― ḉrut (crüt), Thursday, 23 May 2013 00:21 (thirteen years ago)
Maybe the new album, which I adore, makes me want to shout out even more that 'Digital Love' is probably still the best pop song ever written.
― Random ASMR Memories (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 23 May 2013 00:22 (thirteen years ago)
Amongst all the other hundreds of best ever pop songs, but y'know
― Random ASMR Memories (Le Bateau Ivre), Thursday, 23 May 2013 00:23 (thirteen years ago)
It seemed conceptually on-point to buy this on vinyl, so I did. It somehow makes sense as a four-sided piece, with "Lose Yourself To Dance" at the end of Side 2 feeling pivotal, as a lead-in to the rebirth that takes place on Side 3.
It's pressed very quietly, though. I almost had to double the usual volume setting.

"We’re working on some mixes ourselves,” Thomas Bangalter says. "So, yes, there will probably be Daft Punk mixes of Daft Punk. Usually, we never mix ourselves, that’s something we feel we’re interested in doing this time."

Random trivia--Bob Lefsetz talking about a Nile Rodgers presentation at a music conference in Ibiza:
After Daft Punk got "Get Lucky" they'd have everybody redo their parts, individually. And then they'd send the result to the next person in the chain. Nathan East heard Nile's new work and then he had to recut his bass part, he had to raise his game to complement Nile and the other players.
― curmudgeon, Thursday, 23 May 2013 14:12 (thirteen years ago)
I don't really follow that. After Daft Punk "got" Get Lucky?
― TracerHandVEVO (Tracer Hand), Thursday, 23 May 2013 14:14 (thirteen years ago)
Rolling Stone feature is very illuminating. Thomas says that the second and last time he took E was the day Kurt Cobain died - coincidentally of course.

The bass part is fine, but I'd really love to hear what Nard would've done with it.
