Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 19:25 (thirteen years ago)

Uhm, that's just a live version of "Give Life Back To Music".

MarkoP, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 19:28 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah but still mind blowing no?

Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 19:29 (thirteen years ago)

I know this record is good because it costs $35-40

Eno-esque

ḉrut (crüt), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:25 (thirteen years ago)

sounds similar to the music in the background of the beginning of giorgio

gr8080, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:28 (thirteen years ago)

that track is for all the Kitaro fans out there. very soundtrack-y. makes me think i should listen to the Tron soundtrack. kinda figure Tron isn't gonna be some Tangerine Dream masterpiece or reach the heights of Keith Emerson's Nighthawks soundtrack, but i'll give it a shot.

scott seward, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:35 (thirteen years ago)

Tron soundtrack in many ways a much bigger let down than this album, but it's been a while. (Better than the Tron movie, though!)

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:36 (thirteen years ago)

okay i lasted for about 5 minutes of Tron and then went and listened to something that i've already listened to a zillion times. i'm such a rockhead. but hey i got the spirit of 1976 alive within me. and 1976 is still alive and well. it's fresh.

dig the horizon vibe though. would listen to an album of that. i kinda do already with old stuff like that but i'm all for new stuff like that.

scott seward, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:49 (thirteen years ago)

Tron soundtrack = too much orchestra not enough synth

the league against cool sports (Noodle Vague), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 20:50 (thirteen years ago)

"drezzed" is the most daft punky on the tron score, right?

hope hollywood lets alex moulton score a film soon :-[

like what kind of thing? i like stuff like this but prob the more obvious end of the scale.

love the neville brothers 'yellow moon' synth at 1:26 of 'the game of love'

I'd laugh my arse off if the new Boards Of Canada sounded like Skrillex..."but we thought it was what the kids wanted"...

The Pastiche Liberation Front (sonnyboy), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 21:22 (thirteen years ago)

thanks thread for introducing me to "yellow moon"

ḉrut (crüt), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 21:28 (thirteen years ago)

If this was Air - and it sounds like it could've been off any of the first 4 Air albums - no one would care. Pretty but...Eno-esque is grasping at straws.

That elusive North American wood-ape (Capitaine Jay Vee), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 21:45 (thirteen years ago)

pro tip - i'm not sure anybody outside of the US gives a flying one about Skrillex

fwiw I always read 'Skrillex' as 'Sir Alex', and it gets me slightly annoyed

I will continue to believe this is actually Smash Mouth produced by Daniel Lanois until 乒乓 tells me otherwise.

oh this is the real deal isn't it? good stuff.

wtf? it's what I hear, dogg.

ḉrut (crüt), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 21:53 (thirteen years ago)

I like Air too!

ḉrut (crüt), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 21:53 (thirteen years ago)

if you don't hear Eno that's fine, but don't say that I'm "grasping at straws" like I'm a fucking dumbass

ḉrut (crüt), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 21:55 (thirteen years ago)

I hear it in some tracks, too. hence the 'yellow moon.' eno's been involved with many things. 'sounds like eno' is probably a safe thing to say about music statistically.

lost it all for a bag of doja (Sufjan Grafton), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 21:56 (thirteen years ago)

it sounds eno-esque because it is an ambient instrumental track that "builds" slowly toward a climax. that's enough to be eno-esque.

Michigan seems like a dream to me now (Treeship), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 21:57 (thirteen years ago)

That elusive North American wood-ape (Capitaine Jay Vee), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 21:59 (thirteen years ago)

sounding like eno is probably easier than sounding like John Bonham. aren't there a bunch of quotes from crusty studio engineers complaining that teenagers walk into their holy studio and ask for a Bonham drumsound. and the crusty studio engineer inserts a dramatic pause before saying something like "you'd better go dig up john bonham then." but brian eno plays synthesizers a lot, you see, and synthesizers can be setup to sound the same, independent of the operator.

Can someone point me to what all these writers are referring to when they call RAM "a disappointment to many fans" before they proceed to say glowing things about it? I've now read this three or four times and have yet to see someone actually disappointed.

Are there "Boo To RAM" chat rooms lex moderates that I'm unaware of?

Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:07 (thirteen years ago)

Try their Lastfm page, plenty of people on there are disappointed.

Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

Or here's a negative review I found via the Hype Machine:

Ok, Horizon is absolutely gorgeous. Someone get a post-rock/Hydrahead band to cover it ASAP.

but let's be honest if a critic thought that was a good angle to take ("fans disappointed by new daft punk album") they would do so even if the evidence was a single tweet.

I just accidentally called my local record store while trying to look up their hours during a meeting and bought the last copy of this to avoid saying "I accidentally called you"

not laughing at you crut, but I like this as the new board description.

Cunga, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:02 (thirteen years ago)

wait you bought a record over the phone in the middle of a meeting? like maybe there was a powerpoint happening, and you're like "uh, excuse me, do you have any copies of the new daft punk left?"

precious bonsai children of new york (Jordan), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 23:04 (thirteen years ago)

Thought yelp would just give me the number, not call it immediately. Realized it was calling. Excused myself from meeting. Pretended someone had called me. Bought record bc I didn't know what else to say to the nice lady at the record store
