hey guys i'm playing in American Cream tonight, kind of a heavy jam/psych/improv thing opening for Grant Hart and the Rank Strangers at the Turf Club

Grant should be playing stuff off his upcoming album....

American Cream is going to be me and people from STNNNG, Polica, Private Dancer, Total Fucking Blood, The Vets, Blackcloud Stallionheart, and more....2 drummer, farfisa organ, guitar, and bass....

yeah i was actually at the turf last night and heard that.

not totally surprised, first avenue has been promoting shows at other venues like the turf, fine line, and cabooze pretty intensively for awhile now.

i think they've coveted a venue in between the entry and the main room. entry is zoned for about 200 i think but they've packed more in but it's miserable. but there's definitley shows where they could maybe sell like 350 tickets but that would be a miserable main room show, too packed for the entry, and good for the turf or fine line.

frankly, i've been getting worried about the turf...sc@l0n is a fucking crazy person and recently came in a threw a fit and canceled a bunch of booked shows and closed the club sunday - tues. my fear was that when light rail started next year some condo developer was gonna come through and offer him a few million to knock it down.

first ave will fix is up w/kitchen and new bathrooms, etc

all this said....it's bittersweet for me. for nearly 20 years it's been as close to a home bar as i've ever had, through the current regime and before that rob and leah rule....it's been a pretty free space to do whatever the fuck you wanted, stay until 3 am after a show if you knew the folks, hang out, do weird DJ nights, whatever....

was definitely an era that was gonna come to an end eventually.

the memory i will take is of my first band playing "shots" by neil young & crazy horse at about 45 minutes past bar time with my friend pretending to fellate me and shooting a fake kid's laser gun in the microphone

it's one of the great bars-qua-bars we have. now that i think of it, i've only gone there to hang out and drink like once (ie non-show), that's a little weird.

I've never made it in the door. Both times I tried to see a show it was sold out :(

I am not pleased with this news. If they 86 ry@n after all his years of hard work there (and elsewhere) I will never set foot in that fucking place again.

ry@n is now booking at another comparable venue on the other side of the river that you may be familiar with :) (not the cabooze but you are in the neighborhood if you know what i mean)

i was there once cuz a friend was DJing there and it wasn't as scary as advertised IMO.

I'ma be there...*warning name drop story coming up*: Mike Watt & the Missingmen stayed at my place a few yrs ago and it turned into a long night in the kitchen talking about underrated old school Mpls bands and Watt (who was in the bathroom off my kitchen) comes bursting out the door yelling "MAN SIZED ACTION!!" You kind of had to be there but I think you can also probably picture it.
