it all passed without incident is the best i can say.

first few minutes feel like HG! by numbers, would be much lesser song if they'd done an edit. this is partly bcz, as with everything bar I Will Come Back and Jam For Jerry, the lyrics are completely blank, so it works great that the vocals become more explicitly sheer decoration once the synths take off.

enjoying not being able to work out if the drums are pads or carefully produced acoustic kit; looking forward to the CD to see who's credited with cwbll

love the "dumb disco ideas" instrumental. could have been made circa "yeah" -- i like that.

Has it been said all over the place that the Blurred Lines instrumental sounds a lot like a 2004/2005-ish DFA track?

that's not odd although they are significantly worse than usual.

i don't normally have a problem with the singing but this has the feel of a rough guide vocal that never got replaced

I was wondering what people thought of that Larry Gus album. The couple tracks I heard are pretty cool.

not really into it. it's great that he had this complicated algorithm for deciding which background samples to use or whatever, but it's not really borne out in the music, idk.

I'm a few years behind but the Peter Gordon & Love of Life Orchestra album is so so good. Got the sensuous smoothness of 'Still You' and the ridiculous and lovely mess that is 'That Hat' on a loop here.

Some days I think 'Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom - Rise (DFA Mix)' is the best thing they ever released.

The Holy Ghost! album is one of my fav DFA things. Took a bunch of plays but now I'm into just about every song on the album.

Although Murphy always rubbed me slightly the wrong way, I've been really enjoying listening to the MSG live stuff on Spotify - incredible band.

sounds like DFA is completely dead except as a brand for James Murphy. the writing was kind of on the wall for a while, but it’s depressing to hear what an ongoing clusterfuck things were for a long time

but my time with the label came to an end in July. One day I came to work and the locks were changed. It was a really sad day, and the only information I got was that the partnership—of which I was part as a minority owner—had made the decision to cut off the label. And then it got ugly, with lawyers involved.
