couldn't disagree more-- the whole song feels so desparate and urgent
― gr8080, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:08 (thirteen years ago)
Touch is filled 2/3 with rubbish. The intro is useless and Paul Williams voice is too histrionic for my taste. The rest is beautiful.
― Moka, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:12 (thirteen years ago)
so Pitchfork is gonna give this the ol 6.9 aren't they
― frogbs, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:29 (thirteen years ago)
after three days of listening i'm more or less ready to put this down.meanwhile, after two months of john talabot...
― UTW, USA, ILX LIFER (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:30 (thirteen years ago)
really? talabot got about 2/3 plays from me and that was it, even though i thought it was good.
― ... (LocalGarda), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:32 (thirteen years ago)
for me, it's been on heavy rotation more or less since I heard it. Which may say something about the kind of electronic music i want.
― UTW, USA, ILX LIFER (forksclovetofu), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:33 (thirteen years ago)
talabot still giving me life over a year on
― flamenco drop (lex pretend), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:35 (thirteen years ago)
I have absolutely no idea what Pitchfork will give this.
― MarkoP, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:35 (thirteen years ago)
i do actually mean to give DP another try but lots else to listen to, not really been moved to do so - heard the new eve album for the first time yesterday and have barely been able to take that off repeat

Touch is one of those songs that 10, 15 years ago would have been a great source of controversy in music nerd circles -- the pinnacle of ambition to some, an overindulgent embarrassment to others. Before Kid A, part of the fun of listening to records with songs like these was to pour through the different opinions and try to decide which camp you belonged in.
A recent quote in the Pitchfork piece made me think that in some ways, they're consciously trying to will us back to that time:
"Technology has made music accessible in a philosophically interesting way, which is great," says Bangalter, talking about the proliferation of home recording and the laptop studio. "But on the other hand, when everybody has the ability to make magic, it's like there's no more magic-- if the audience can just do it themselves, why are they going to bother?"
― Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:48 (thirteen years ago)
yeah, talabot not getting old here either, although i think i will say the same thing about RAM in a year's time
― caek, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:57 (thirteen years ago)
probably been said already but the album cut of get lucky is really disorienting after listening to the single so many times - it's many bars longer but has 0 extra content and loses a lot the momentum of the single version, kind of wish it didn't exist
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:59 (thirteen years ago)
I wuz sorta hoping that the bloopy outro was a minute long on the album
― iatee, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 16:59 (thirteen years ago)
haha yeah that's the one part i wanted more of too and instead it gets slowrolled more
― ciderpress, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 17:01 (thirteen years ago)
touch into get lucky is pretty genius tho
― iatee, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 17:03 (thirteen years ago)
the album sequencing is basically perfect
lose yourself > touch > get lucky is a great run

You are one of the few people in the world for whom a success like Get Lucky is not entire new..."The interesting thing about this, not only was the relationship with Daft Punk was great and making the record was cool, but I've never had a record leak before. The guys were really upset, everyone had agreed to a schedule and next thing you know the record was turning up before they expected it to come out. People were getting nervous, they were worried about it not fitting the marketing plan and I had to try to be the voice of reason. At the end of the day it's about music not marketing. No one I've known has ever brought a record because of a clever marketing campaign, they buy music because they like it. You can hear it for free any how, if someone marginally likes it they can wait till it comes on the radio again, or whatever. When it gets under your skin and you have to have, you have to own it, that's what you're going for! I said: Guys, people will either like or they won't, we can't deny that's the record. It would be awful to say that's not the record when it really is. I can understand how it was unnerving as they thought they had it on lock down but our hand was forced. People will either like it or not, and that's what you have to think about."

uhoh: Right now I've been writing songs with Avicii.

"Right now I've been taking Avicii's ideas and shredding them and beating everyone involved over the head with my guitar."
― Ned Raggett, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 17:23 (thirteen years ago)
haha just saw an interview w/ todd edwards where he compares get lucky to jamiroquai
― just sayin, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 17:25 (thirteen years ago)

Just heard get lucky being used to advertise the Peter Andre ITV Three reality show :(
― beingcutesince1980 (captain rosie), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 17:33 (thirteen years ago)
limmy (who is one of the best and worse people on twitter) pointed out that get lucky is destined to end up on gala bingo adverts

Following up on this, the more I hear this record--with the live-sounding drums, the big orchestra, and the obscure stars and so forth--the more I think DP were consciously trying to make something you couldn't record in your apartment sitting around in your boxers.
― Naive Teen Idol, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 17:56 (thirteen years ago)
so they're in a studio sitting around in their boxers
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:06 (thirteen years ago)
is this this months m b v i.e. no one's actually gonna be listening to in a week's time

they think it's playing but they're just sitting there in silence?
― we're up all night to get (s1ocki), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:14 (thirteen years ago)
it was an empire's new clothes type thing, everyone had to pretend like mbv released a new album and nobody was willing to admit that that was impossible
― iatee, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:18 (thirteen years ago)
It's "sold out" everywhere but it exists
― Treeship, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:20 (thirteen years ago)
So this is essentially WALL-E the album? Lonely lovesick robots, who are obsessed with junk from the past, like cheesy musical numbers, make contact with other human beings, while all the other dance producers just sit on their asses all day, pushing buttons on screens?
― MarkoP, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:28 (thirteen years ago)
was there some expanded version of wall-e I didn't see
― iatee, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:29 (thirteen years ago)
SWEAT
― gr8080, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:34 (thirteen years ago)
i think it's hilarious they made a beardo album but tbf this is the max/gr80/jaxon record of three years ago... there is something a lil dated about it
but i think the message w/ beardo is, when you get old, you can kinda just ignore styles & trends and beard it out for the rest of your life
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:37 (thirteen years ago)
tbf they started it 5 years before 3 years ago
― caek, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:38 (thirteen years ago)
maybe they should have worked a little faster
― AMERICA IS ABOUT RESSLING (DJP), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 18:38 (thirteen years ago)

re: "Get Lucky" album vs single version - naw, the single version always felt like an edit, album version breathes much more
