Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:17 (thirteen years ago)

Did he really need a song named "Pussy"?

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:18 (thirteen years ago)

3. Equestrain
4. Pussy (Feat. Big Sean & Pusha T)

read this as "Pussytrain" at first

looool @ "Tron" being on the album

society is a lol, it makes me j/k to my friends (some dude), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:32 (thirteen years ago)

everything below "outro" i'm thinkin is an itunes deluxe edition track

drew holidaze (livethedream), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:34 (thirteen years ago)

there are samples on itunes, it sounds p bad :/

daft on the causes of punk (schlump), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:35 (thirteen years ago)

too early sample sounds nice

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:43 (thirteen years ago)

haven't listened to samples yet but have not dug anything off this except "slow it down" (a nice throwback to los' cotton-candy) and "IV play" (terius indulging in maximalism)...

drew holidaze (livethedream), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:45 (thirteen years ago)

^like this guy

'scuse me while i make the sky cum (k3vin k.), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:47 (thirteen years ago)

johnny crunch, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:54 (thirteen years ago)

drew holidaze (livethedream), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 00:56 (thirteen years ago)

ha I am really not a hater, i am an opteriusist, it's just everything sounds post-l.o.s thin, autotuned to the point of obscuring t's voice & just sorta weirdly aimless/slight/slightly misguided like high art so far imo. I am still googling DREAM THE-DREAM FOURPLAY VINYL everyday I am just sorta suspecting/accepting that this is not the lush love king sequel I am desiring. I have spent a long while recently bugged by the easy, consequence free cynicism of low pop culture expectations ('oh this is going to be a trainwreck') so I seriously have no pleasure hating on it, just I listened through today & it all sounded p blank.

daft on the causes of punk (schlump), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 01:57 (thirteen years ago)

yeah, totally agree with schlump. snippets sound p dire

Jacques_Lamure, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 03:37 (thirteen years ago)

sorry equesTRAIN might've been a typo...

i am a bit worried that the Beyonce and Kelly Rowland features will be nowhere as good as the tracks that Terius has done for each of their upcoming albums... or i guess i shouldn't be worried, and come to terms with the fact that since Love King i've more often enjoyed his productions for other artists than the stuff he does for himself...

mingalaba, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 04:12 (thirteen years ago)

Finishing up my first listen of this, and it sounds really good. Nice rebound from 1977. Nothing as grand and grabbing as his first two records, of course, but he's testing enough new ideas that it doesn't feel like a lesser redux of them, either—I'm struck but how many of these tracks don't song immediately identifiable as Dream songs.

Evan R, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 19:15 (thirteen years ago)

You have the album?

longneck, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 19:18 (thirteen years ago)

A stream, yeah

Evan R, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 19:21 (thirteen years ago)

ohhhhhhhhh - just glad to know it exists at this point

longneck, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 19:23 (thirteen years ago)

Ha, I have a system I use for gauging whether rap/R&B albums are real when I pitch reviews or plan coverage. It's a scale, beginning with "hmmm, this might not really exist" and ending with "huh, I'll be damned":

Release date
Cover art
Tracklist announcement
Snippets
Leak

Evan R, Wednesday, 15 May 2013 19:33 (thirteen years ago)

lol

society is a lol, it makes me j/k to my friends (some dude), Wednesday, 15 May 2013 20:27 (thirteen years ago)

So I don't know if it was lowered expectations or what, but I'm liking this a lot. I'm enjoying the guests, the energy, the pacing, all of it really.

Evan R, Thursday, 16 May 2013 17:13 (thirteen years ago)

Is this at least on par with Love King? I'll be happy if it is.

The Reverend, Thursday, 16 May 2013 22:04 (thirteen years ago)

Yes and no. It doesn't hit woozy highs like Love King, but I don't think it misfires as badly, or repeats itself as much. I'd much rather listen to this than Love King right now.

Evan R, Thursday, 16 May 2013 22:18 (thirteen years ago)

i wasn't a huge fan of Love King but i'd be pretty shocked if this had anything as good as "Yamaha" or "F.I.L.A."

trick paddy pollars (some dude), Thursday, 16 May 2013 22:42 (thirteen years ago)

yeah.

utilizing my famously feline agility to seek managerial succor (forksclovetofu), Thursday, 16 May 2013 22:52 (thirteen years ago)

I'd be surprised if any lyric is as good as "so she let me do her"

P is for Poo Poo Doo Doo (Sufjan Grafton), Thursday, 16 May 2013 22:52 (thirteen years ago)

"where have you been" -> "too early" -> "michael" is the one great stretch on this album i think

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 May 2013 15:09 (thirteen years ago)

is this out there?

you are not a better writer than f. scott fitzgerald. you are not a b (k3vin k.), Monday, 20 May 2013 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

not that i know of

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 May 2013 15:25 (thirteen years ago)

I think the whole album is one great stretch, tbh, but "Too Early" is particularly incredible

Evan R, Monday, 20 May 2013 15:29 (thirteen years ago)

idk i think there's a handful of tracks on this that are kinda worthless

J0rdan S., Monday, 20 May 2013 15:31 (thirteen years ago)

There's some fluff in the final third, but it's mostly likable fluff, so I don't mind

Evan R, Monday, 20 May 2013 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

his albums always start off kinda slow but "high art", "pussy" and "turnt" are 360 dunked into the recycle bin

KAT as first venue for webrip leak says a lot about Terius fan base...
Can't wait til I can get 320.
Is there even a place where I can officially buy IVPlay in 320? Only online option iTunes?

mingalaba, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 10:14 (thirteen years ago)

Dipping in and out of album cut on YouTube, waiting to be wowed

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 10:38 (thirteen years ago)

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 10:42 (thirteen years ago)

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 10:47 (thirteen years ago)

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 10:48 (thirteen years ago)

rap steve gadd (D-40), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:05 (thirteen years ago)

way too much of the stuff i hated about "love king" here -- aimless half-sung ballads, lower-register mumblecore -- and too little of the bright, hooky stuff that makes him good.

i don't know how anyone could end the album with "slow it down" and not think it's the most enjoyable thing here

you are not a better writer than f. scott fitzgerald. you are not a b (k3vin k.), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:14 (thirteen years ago)

Either neither or down.

Certainly not up.

It's true that there's not a lot of the bright, hooky stuff, but I think the storyline here is that he's getting better at the other sounds. He's trying a lot of new things on this record, and a lot of them work really well. I like that he's trying to advance his sound instead of just relive past glories.

Evan R, Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:22 (thirteen years ago)

the song with kelly sounded good on the tonight show last night. or at least she sounded good.

yeeznuts (some dude), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 14:24 (thirteen years ago)

Who is McKinney?

Not... CYNTHIA McKinney?!? Lol

Beatrix Kiddo (Raymond Cummings), Tuesday, 21 May 2013 15:02 (thirteen years ago)

kevin's being a bit fatalistic

there's some stuff on here that's not very good but "IV play"/"equestrian"/"where have you been"/"too early"/"michael" stand up with mostly anything off his three other albums

i need to listen more to everything else after michael tho
