they should have released this album and then not released this album

man "Giorgio By Moroder" alternates between great and totally aimless in the most frustrating way

― far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, May 14, 2013 10:00 AM (18 seconds ago)

kind of like your posting style

this album is really good, except the panda bear thing, which would be dull without panda bear, but it awful because of him.

caek, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:07 (thirteen years ago)

legible version of that pitchfork thing

caek, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:08 (thirteen years ago)

They should un-release this album like that Mos Def album, and then re-release the album.

Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:09 (thirteen years ago)

just found that, sweet relief xpost

gr8080, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:09 (thirteen years ago)

that's like a fifth of it

caek, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:11 (thirteen years ago)

lol xp

caek, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:12 (thirteen years ago)

seriously wtf is wrong with people who think that is an engaging way to present text?

caek, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:12 (thirteen years ago)

There are loads of other singers that work work well up against the vocoder, but Panda Bear just sounds so strained and uncomfortable.

caek, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

haha "Lose Yourself To Dance" is terrible

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

no YOU are

caek, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:13 (thirteen years ago)

i'm giving this my first full listen and so far lose yourself to dance is my favorite

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:14 (thirteen years ago)

The slow and saccharine vibe of most this is making me slightly nauseous.

Elvis was a hero to most but he never her (ledge), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

gr8080 do you like this better than that destroyer album? your posts itt made me think of it, although i think theyre p different and good for very different reasons.

gr8080: this record reminds me of the stuff exactly in the jaxon, gr8080 and max wheelhouse of 3-4 years ago

this seems otm which is interesting

Lamp, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:15 (thirteen years ago)

this album is terrible, it's my favorite, it makes me nauseous, it plods, it's so original, I love it, it's not worth the wait, time for bed.

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:16 (thirteen years ago)

I feel like the bots missed an opportunity in not getting Lindsey Buckingham on this record

― "Turkey In The Straw" coming from someplace in the clouds (Sparkle Motion)

i would have died, so it's probably for the best

okay wtf @ "Touch", this sounds like a rejected song from "Hair"

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:20 (thirteen years ago)

it's from the author of "Evergreen," sonny.

The Akbar and Jeff critical school.

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:21 (thirteen years ago)

listening for the 7th time, i think. love everything except the pee bear track at this point.

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:22 (thirteen years ago)

So, from the reactions here I gather it's both the worst and best album ever, is that about right?

StanM, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

touch is so great

iatee, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

I am tempted to go to the Janelle Monae thread and see how many of the people over there complaining about her being an overly theatrical theater kid are into this album

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:23 (thirteen years ago)

i thought so too, at first. now i love it. the death of critical distance = a consummation devoutly to be wished

yeah, that about covers it

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:27 (thirteen years ago)

vocoder freakout in "Get Lucky" is the second-best moment on the album behind the points in "Giorgio By Moroder" when the groove locks in between the solos

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:30 (thirteen years ago)

lampski i am really glad you like this!

i need to spend way more time with it before i can decide whether i like it as much as Kaputt-- i'm coming at it from a very different way than i came to Kaputt, but i do see the similarities in its fierce big and beautiful melancholy softness

also i just want to say again that CONTACT is so fucking killer

gr8080, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:31 (thirteen years ago)

the opening to "Beyond" sounds a little like a pastiche of a symphonic version of the end level music in Super Mario Brothers

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:32 (thirteen years ago)

that's the sample from the Sherbs song.

ḉrut (crüt), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:33 (thirteen years ago)

I feel like every time they start to build momentum on this album, they pull back and decide to do something either incredibly safe and unsurprising or something incredibly self-indulgent that pulls me out of the groove the album is trying to set

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:34 (thirteen years ago)

sherbs sample is on "contact" iirc?

i'm gonna be controversial here and go with "this album is fine"

congratulations (n/a), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:35 (thirteen years ago)

Yes, Sherbs on "Contact," not "Beyond."

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

u rebel

Ned Raggett, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

The balance is a bit off. I could do with a little more Giorgio/Contact intensity and a little less robot-feels-sad-as-cocaine-wears-off vocoder crooning.

Deafening silence (DL), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:36 (thirteen years ago)

lol okay "Motherboard" is so far my favorite song on the album just by virtue of having the busiest, most interesting drums

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:37 (thirteen years ago)

yeah "Motherboard" is the only song I've liked without reservation so far

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:39 (thirteen years ago)

no way, the melancholy fuckbot parts are awesome

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:40 (thirteen years ago)

In the spirit of "too much time on ilx" I keep expecting Frank Gambale to turn up and give a monologue about pinball machines

scintilla (seandalai), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

Contact sucks imo, worst track on it. They should never make techno again.

... (LocalGarda), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

whoopz. thought DJP said "Contact."

ḉrut (crüt), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

"Motherboard" is fantastic

ḉrut (crüt), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:41 (thirteen years ago)

"Fragments of Time"

okay this is the first song where I can agree with the Steely Dan comparisons

it's okay

far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 15:43 (thirteen years ago)

It would be misleading to conflate all the different potential meanings of "theatrical" though. DP don't do spirit fingers. Not least because they don't really have fingers.
