I can't imagine a situation where I'd want to relisten to "Lose Yourself to Dance."
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:00 (thirteen years ago)
thought contact was self-sampling "rollin' and scratchin'" for a minute
― caek, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:01 (thirteen years ago)
probably not a full minute actually
yeahhhhh that was what i thought too!
― Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:03 (thirteen years ago)
it;s what kids on youtube nowadays call "shreds" tbh
Beyond is really lovely, very Sebastien Tellier. I kinda wish more people had given his last album a listen it was quite brilliant.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:07 (thirteen years ago)
Contact reminds me of their remix of Franz Ferdinand's Take Me Out, but done right.
― MarkoP, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:08 (thirteen years ago)
They should put out Fragments of Time as the next single, this sounds like the other big hit on the album. Surprisingly there doesn't seem to be many obvious singles on here.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:15 (thirteen years ago)
i'm kinda meh you guys! I wanted to love it cuz I wanted something new and shiny to play but i'm afraid if I bought this on cd I would be skipping around like crazy. would probably just enjoy a cd with ten versions of get lucky.
― scott seward, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:16 (thirteen years ago)
guest star stuff usually kinda bums me out if I see a track-listing filled with other people. unless its a rap album. though track-listings that feature puffy or kanye bum me out. multiple other folks make records seem instantly dated. plus, ugh, panda bear. but this is why god invented i-devices. just rip the good stuff to your i-pak and put on your e-buds.
― scott seward, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:21 (thirteen years ago)
Fragments of Time sounds like the type of single that would be pitched to Adult Contemporary stations to play.
I'd say Instant Crush and Lose Yourself to Dance have single potential.

So Doing it Right is almost great, as people have mentioned the phrasing is a bit jarring but the "Doing it right" bit itself is so catchy.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:24 (thirteen years ago)
This does remind me a little of Quincy Jones albums from the early 80s, so many celebrities involved.
― Josiah Alan, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:35 (thirteen years ago)
Huh, I can't tell if this album sounds ahead of the curve or way behind the curve. Sounds good, though!
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:37 (thirteen years ago)
Singles people and album people ITT.
― Popture, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:37 (thirteen years ago)
"Doin' It Right" reminds me of that Holy Ghost track a couple years ago -- a bad thing?
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:38 (thirteen years ago)
So much to take in after just one play. Even though I'd built this album up so much in my head I really do not feel disappointed. I'm not going to try and claim it's a masterpiece but there are so many great moments that left me grinning. I'm looking forward to spending a lot more time with it.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:40 (thirteen years ago)
Prog and disco have never openly begged for their own hybrid, but the genres' newborn Frankenbaby is alive, whether we like it or not. Still, this beast, however grotesque, is relatively harmless-- rather than running amok in the village and snapping the necks of civilians, it only wants to "celebrate and dance so free, one more time." Just don't let it sing.

Is this only streaming on desktop iTunes?
― Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:50 (thirteen years ago)
Eh, the more this plays, the more I can already tell I'm unlikely to listen to it very much. Surely more than the Knife album, but probably no more than, say, Johnny Jewel's "Symmetry/Themes for an Imaginary Film." But then, I've thought all the Daft Punk LPs have been pretty tough start-to-finish listens. There's so much I like, but also just ... so much. And not enough.
A+ background music for dinner parties, I bet.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:51 (thirteen years ago)
but Chic is better for dinner partites!
― A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:52 (thirteen years ago)
Are we not maybe overstating the prog thing?
― Popture, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:54 (thirteen years ago)

I like that this album reminds me of a lot of different disco bands/styles. I kept thinking of bands like Space and Bombers who had a slightly prog feel, at other times I'd think of someone like Gino Soccio. Some of the production especially some of the strings reminds me of Alec R. Costandinos. I guess at one point I was expecting an album full of Chic style bangers but they've covered a bit of everything, all the sounds that made disco so great. As it's been said it's a very melancholic, another thing I loved about disco. Most great disco albums contained at least one great ballad. You can tell they are obsessed with that genre and I think they've done a great job capturing those sounds.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:55 (thirteen years ago)
the new Justice album was kind of a prog/disco hybrid and it was....okay
― frogbs, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:55 (thirteen years ago)
Oh, by far, and it has better kitsch value, too. And it's got a lot more character than this does. In fact, I had Chic playing the last time we had friends over! This sounds pretty good at low volume though.
― Josh in Chicago, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 00:57 (thirteen years ago)
al, no way. that holy ghost record is amazing too

I really should have put that last thing in quotes. its from pitchfork circa 2001 or whatever. don't want anyone to get the idea that I wrote that thing. ethan put that on facebook and I got confused until I googled.

Weird -- this is streaming in iPad but not iPhone.
― Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 01:09 (thirteen years ago)
okay serious lol time @ "The Game Of Love"
This feels like Herbie Hancock ca. Lite Me Up.
― Naive Teen Idol, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 01:15 (thirteen years ago)
contact is awesome, with that feedback that sounds like an engine, constantly in crescendo.

yeah, that's what made me think of "-<7". spacecraft ascending on blue-white percussion.

so far this album sounds like late 70s Herbie Hancock deepcuts
Clearly I am very late to this (sophisticated dinner) party. About twelve hours late, it would seem.

People are talking about how this is getting a lot of discussion on Facebook, I have like two friends on Facebook that would be interested in this album. I think I'm going wrong somewhere.
― Kitchen Person, Tuesday, 14 May 2013 01:40 (thirteen years ago)
Haven't been paying attention to what track's what, but it feels like there's a lot of awesome bits packed into 13 not-consistently-awesome songs.
― scintilla (seandalai), Tuesday, 14 May 2013 01:41 (thirteen years ago)
i completely agree, except that all the songs are always awesome

Lucky you. Sadly I don't have a lot of friends who like music as much as I do, that's why I come here.

Love it when Touch goes all Dr Buzzard's Original Savannah Band for a minute!
"Touch" makes me wonder who at Columbia is championing this record-- and how much longer this person expects to be gainfully employed.
