i think the scratching is a turntable

Treeship, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:17 (thirteen years ago)

idk though

Treeship, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:18 (thirteen years ago)

Sounds kind of like a guitar solo with someone scratching over the top to me.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:19 (thirteen years ago)

there's this restaurant near me that's got this beautiful expansive patio covered with trees and is perpetually filled with beautiful people having conversations, but thing is the food sucks and they give you too much of it.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:20 (thirteen years ago)

Really hate Paul Williams voice though. Rainbow Connection or no.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:21 (thirteen years ago)

What's the scratching sound on latter part of Giorgio by Moroder? Is that a turntable or a guitar?

"the food was terrible... and such large portions!"

we're up all night to get (s1ocki), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:22 (thirteen years ago)

for the record i am not particularly worked up

also i'd rather have people post negatively in threads about music i loved (which are plentiful! i post in them all the time!) instead of the usual tumbleweed, because seeing a range of opinions interests me

― flamenco drop (lex pretend), dinsdag 14 mei 2013 0:13 (4 minutes ago) Bookmark Flag Post Permalink

I too am interested in a "range of opinions". You saying music is "boooooring/suuuuucks" is not very opinionated though, and that is your usual shtick in thread about music you don't like. You hadn't even HEARD the new Daft Punk album but already came marching in declaring your dread.

With love,

Tumbleweed

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:22 (thirteen years ago)

aside from the breakdown, "fragments of time" isn't doing it for me. like most of the rest, though, so maybe i'll come around.

French musicians seem obsessed with the 1970s to a pretty unhealthy degree. Other decades are available for inspiration.

ATTN: THIS IS A METAPHOR

Treeship, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:23 (thirteen years ago)

Honestly this is like complaining about a box of chocolates because one had coconut in it. Don't eat that one, silly.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:24 (thirteen years ago)

I still skip Crescendolls every time I listen to Discovery.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:25 (thirteen years ago)

i for one am glad that lex is being boring itt. every wheel needs an axle.

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:26 (thirteen years ago)

WTF Josiah

Tim F, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:27 (thirteen years ago)

What? I really hate coconut?

"Lose Yourself To Dance" is amaze fyi

Tim F, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:28 (thirteen years ago)

I'm a good, kind spirited dude, but skipping Crescendolls, Josiah, really?!

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:28 (thirteen years ago)

It's just a little too ... fast? Like if I played it out it'd be at -8?

Josiah Alan, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:29 (thirteen years ago)

What Le bateau said

Tim F, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:29 (thirteen years ago)

Didn't Daft Punk say they loved Sebastian Tellier?

one of the daft punk guys produced his album sexuality and it rules.

brimstead, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:33 (thirteen years ago)

"contact" = the super roots 7 of french disko

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:34 (thirteen years ago)

"contact" is awesome. i'm afraid, sort of, that i might have bought into the hype, because i never considered myself a big daft punk guy but am loving this whole album

Yeah that album is perfection, was hoping this would be similar in some ways.

Kitchen Person, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:37 (thirteen years ago)

had to open the window and let the sun in for the second play of this

The Reverend, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:38 (thirteen years ago)

mostly this seems like an album for people with no underwear on

Stephen T Erlewine @sterlewine
I like Daft Punk’s Random Access Memories but I also enjoy the Alan Parsons Project so perhaps take my quick take with a grain of salt.

jay-z's ansari (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:41 (thirteen years ago)

This isn't Steely Dan, this is Atlanta Rhythm Section covering Steely Dan.

Popture, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:41 (thirteen years ago)

So far I have been listening to this in a suit and that works too

Tim F, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:42 (thirteen years ago)

Who is lex in journalist terms?

studyplenty, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:42 (thirteen years ago)

i'm wearing a dress shirt and blue khakis. it feel like i'm doin' it right. xpost

Treeship, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:44 (thirteen years ago)

*feels

Treeship, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:44 (thirteen years ago)

touch is the real standout here insofar as it's the most obvious piece of shit. the moroder track is vv good, game of love and instant crush better than that. i kinda like the panda bear one. the rest is kind of w/e.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:44 (thirteen years ago)

white linen, translucent prints, strappy footwear, salt spray, rum drinks. someone is wearing a captain's hat. no one thinks twice about what anything costs. ever.

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:44 (thirteen years ago)

i just accidentally downloaded a leak of human after all from 2005

flopson, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:45 (thirteen years ago)

get lucky sounds good on a dance floor i think. but outside of that i don't like it *that* much.

christmas candy bar (al leong), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:46 (thirteen years ago)

i'm wearing khakis, a johnny cash t-shirt, and a minnesota vikings track jacket/zip-up, K-SWISS shoes (important note they are blue suede uppers with WHITE stripes, as u know it's very hard to find K SWISS that aren't black on white or white on white, found these at Friedman's shoes in North Mpls off the Broadway/94 W exit, very good sneaker store, check it out if you are in mpls)

jay-z's ansari (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:48 (thirteen years ago)

also i never knew who sang this "i would never wanna be like you" song but it turns out it's alan parson's project....

jay-z's ansari (upper mississippi sh@kedown), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:48 (thirteen years ago)

'touch' is really good but I've been on a disco kick all weekend so I'm really feeling those ~vibes~

something in Williams' delivery reminds me of Shatner, gives me a good hit of cheese

set the controls for the heart of the sun (VegemiteGrrl), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:48 (thirteen years ago)

hit of cheese is undeniable, good part up for debate

the Panda Bear track runs out of inspiration after a minute but, yeah, otm, and the only context in which I wanna hear him.

A deeper shade of lol (Alfred, Lord Sotosyn), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:50 (thirteen years ago)

I have listened to this record front to back 4 times now. Thoughts:

- It is melancholy, yet lascivious
- Robot blues, tears creeping down metal masks a lot of the time
- Love making
- Groovy, soul, intimate
- First-listen reviewers all over the world have failed HORRIBLE. Not one word about from them about the melancholy on this record.
- This record will be butchered on social media (because of the insane build up, that also gathered a lot of people otherwise not interested in DP into the "viral" (ugh) side of it)

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:51 (thirteen years ago)

expect it's gonna get hit hard by generation skrill

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:51 (thirteen years ago)

I think my dad might like Touch if he heard it, he listened to a lot of Three Dog Night and Chicago in the late 70s.

Josiah Alan, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:52 (thirteen years ago)

two tracks in, it is quite like tellier's sexuality, no problem with that at all, one of the best records of the last few years. arise guy man your time to get credit is finally here.

controversial vegan pregnancy (contenderizer), Monday, 13 May 2013 22:53 (thirteen years ago)

tellier's one of the best i meant, i'll wait to hear the rest of this before deciding i like it or repeatedly shouting it's shit to the uncaring cosmos.

Totally, yes

xp

Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 22:54 (thirteen years ago)

Is it really a binary? I'm horniest when I'm sad, like any good robot.
