― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 17:58 (thirteen years ago)
this is sounding real chill. was not expecting it
― rap steve gadd (D-40), Monday, 13 May 2013 17:58 (thirteen years ago)
like an Air record lol
Yeah that's how it really starts out!
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 17:59 (thirteen years ago)
feel like ilx is gonna dig this album more than the rest of the world
― iatee, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:03 (thirteen years ago)
thomas bangalter is actually max
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 May 2013 18:04 (thirteen years ago)
I miss when it was all hype
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:05 (thirteen years ago)
This is like the synth-prog album of my dreams.
― Davek (davek_00), Monday, 13 May 2013 18:06 (thirteen years ago)
idk, the commercial pop radio channel was playing "get lucky" about three times an hour over the weekend
― tweeship journey to 77 (mh), Monday, 13 May 2013 18:06 (thirteen years ago)
How the fuck did they manage to put together such a masterfully controlled promotional campaign and then allow the album to leak a week early?
― Matt DC, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:08 (thirteen years ago)
as soon as it got into other peoples' hands (like whoever is in charge of streaming it at itunes or whatever) im sure they couldnt do anything about it
― we're up all night to get (s1ocki), Monday, 13 May 2013 18:08 (thirteen years ago)
yeah they new it would leak today once it streams
― caek, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:09 (thirteen years ago)
it leaked an hour or two earlier than they planned
The drop at the end of 'Gorgio by Moroder' is exactly like the beginning of Shackleton's 'Into the Void'
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:10 (thirteen years ago)
That's the thing, why even let iTunes stream it in the first place when they knew full well this would happen? Like, I know it's Apple, but this is the biggest release of the year, Daft Punk had the power to do whatever they wanted.
Two tracks in and this is sounding amazing though.
― Matt DC, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:10 (thirteen years ago)
On the fifth song now. Robots defo being sad 'n melancholy up to now ;_;
Love it
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:11 (thirteen years ago)
like you say, they could have said no, so obviously they are ok with it leaking?
― caek, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:12 (thirteen years ago)

i think the view is that it's gonna leak at some point anyway, but if you stream it on itunes you at least get centric hype and promotion from putting it out there.
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 May 2013 18:14 (thirteen years ago)
I suppose so, but they've got massive hype anyway, I'm just kind of amazed they let it slip out there before the release date at all.
― Matt DC, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:17 (thirteen years ago)
They were probably really confident with the number of preorders that the album already got.
― MarkoP, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:20 (thirteen years ago)
'Lose Yourself To Dance' will, as senior ILM'er Job de Wit has said in his review today, "make us learn how to dance to 100 BPM again" <3
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:20 (thirteen years ago)
The bit where the strings come in during Giorgio made me so so happy.
― Matt DC, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:20 (thirteen years ago)
Their comment on how eletronic music isn't moving foward seem a little arrogant now, I like this, don't get me wrong but idk.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:22 (thirteen years ago)
^^ BACKLASH ALERT
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:22 (thirteen years ago)
Just finished Within, I think it is fantastic record up to now. Way better than anticipated. I juust wish artist wouldn't play the 'ah the state of music today' card has marketing ploy.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:25 (thirteen years ago)
Jon Williams' song 'Touch' first song to half break the spell, for me. Not because of the song and sounds, but just the vocals. WOuld've preferred an intrumental tbh
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:25 (thirteen years ago)
I was being challopsy Van Horn, I agree with what you said. Album so far is teh awesome
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:26 (thirteen years ago)
I remember when Within was playing at my first dance when I was 12, 13 years ago.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:27 (thirteen years ago)
Haha the very beginning of Instant Crush kinda reminds me of Last Christmas by Wham.
― Matt DC, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:29 (thirteen years ago)
I think what they said was that the state of electronic music didn't make them want to go that way again (also they've always said they hated to do the same things again and again) so they went back to some sounds and ways to make music from the late 70s/80s that inspired them more.I don't think they meant that their album was about making electronic music go forward.
― AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:32 (thirteen years ago)
Having heard Get Lucky a gazillion times already, I feared I wouldn't be able to 'place' it in the flow of the record. But no such thing, fits in perfectly, love hearing 6mins of it too
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:34 (thirteen years ago)
I think Love Yourself to Dance would have benefited from some editing. Touch is fantastic.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:37 (thirteen years ago)
I will be very strong and resist the temptation to listen to the leak and wait for the official release...I want that old school fun of buying it at the store on the first day and discover it at home.
― AlXTC from Paris, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:38 (thirteen years ago)
Me too, I'll probably never get that again
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:42 (thirteen years ago)
surprisingly downbeat innit? #getweepy
― piscesx, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:43 (thirteen years ago)
Dunno, I'm feeling that release day feeling right now, even if I didn't actually go and buy it. The feeling of anticipation and release is still there.
― Matt DC, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:44 (thirteen years ago)
Everyone who works for a label knows that albums leak 7-10 days before release. They knew this would happen. Why do you think there are so many week-before-release streams now? To distract people from downloading leaks. Me, I'll wait and buy it next week.

Srsly! Very downbeat and melancholy. It's funny how the 'mood' of this album has not been addressed in the eight videos they put out there up till now, I didn't get that impression at all.
'Fragments of Time' whoah what the hell is it... 10CC paired with yacht rock? Fuck if I know, but it is so so great.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:50 (thirteen years ago)
And I have to say, not one of the OMG I WAS THERE AT FIRST LISTEN reviews prepared me for such a 'moody', bluesy electronic album. So odd.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:51 (thirteen years ago)
Maybe they made a feint album to throw everyone off
― Ismael Klata, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:52 (thirteen years ago)
okay if someone told me this album sounded like The Faint I would be more interested in hearing it
― far too much asshole flesh (DJP), Monday, 13 May 2013 18:53 (thirteen years ago)
Fuck the Panda Bear track is a fucking jam
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:54 (thirteen years ago)
Need to listen to it a lot more, but I have to say that I was quite exhausted by the end.
― Davek (davek_00), Monday, 13 May 2013 18:55 (thirteen years ago)
right now someone is mixing fragments of time with a christine mcvie vocal imo
― caek, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:56 (thirteen years ago)
Baffled that NOT ONE of the lucky few reviewers addressed the melancholy, near serenity of this. Not one!
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:57 (thirteen years ago)
are there any legal streams atm?
― sigourney wiener (diamonddave85), Monday, 13 May 2013 18:57 (thirteen years ago)
Into Motherboard. I'm having a hard time figuring out which will be the next single.
― Van Horn Street, Monday, 13 May 2013 18:58 (thirteen years ago)
todd edwards should be a permanent member of this band
― J0rdan S., Monday, 13 May 2013 19:00 (thirteen years ago)
I for one, after just one listen, can already conclude that these "exclusive one time listening sessions" are a piece of shite that needs to be eradicated from music journalism. Noone even got fucking CLOSE to describing this album.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Monday, 13 May 2013 19:00 (thirteen years ago)
I hear iTunes is live streaming, at least in the UK, right now.
