those two are great. especially the still corners one. don't think i'd name an album strange pleasures though, unless it is an explicit joy division nod

It is, and it is just the album cover you'd expect from a former hero like Schulze and Brian fucking May.

xp

Froese-ian slip?

Cannonley Adderall (InternationalWaters), Monday, 27 May 2013 20:43 (thirteen years ago)

:-)

I retract having called him a 'former hero' though. Schulze is an all time hero, despite him not having made a decent record since 1986 (TD's Underwater Sunlight).

Detour here, but it were my twin uncles that got me into TD and Schulze, that whole German (krautrock) scene tbh. They were 20 years old when they hitchhiked to Germany for a summer holiday, in 1979, the year I was born. Both of them with long hair and always wearing white overalls, just like Schulze on stage. They dared to try and meet Schulze at his home/studio. Just rang the doorbell, anxious and embarrassed. Klaus was beyond kind and generous: they ended up spending hours at his place. Schulze showed them his home studio, served them coffee and cake, and played them some tunes that right then were still unreleased (they turned out to be tracks from the upcoming Tangram album). Fantastic story for me.

some sort of techy colouring-book mysticism

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Monday, 10 June 2013 09:33 (thirteen years ago)

I like that Secret Circuit cover (kinda reminds me of 60's/70's Jack Kirby comics), but that font lets it down.

Does the mismatched alignment between top and bottom really bother anybody else? I mean, I know "galactics" is slightly longer than "tactile" but that still looks sloppy. Love the colors, though; it reminds me a bit of Stanislaw Lem book covers:

Ha, that looks like something on GRP from 1981 that would've littered cut-out bins for the better part of the decade.

for sure, their new song is a total Steely Dan rip so...

yatha bhuta jazz combo - s/t

cock chirea, Thursday, 13 June 2013 02:04 (thirteen years ago)

The artwork on Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo is a painting from Mati Klarwein titled “Conceptual Tree”, a fitting touch to the album that was secured from Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo and Mati Klarwein’s son meeting at a exhibit for his fathers works. His work graces the covers of such classics as Earth, Wind & Fire’ Last Days In Time, Miles Davis’ Bitches Brew and Santana’s Abraxas and now you can add Yatha Bhuta Jazz Combo to that list.

cock chirea, Thursday, 13 June 2013 02:09 (thirteen years ago)

That Miles one irritates me. Feeling the Matchess.

Doctor Casino, Thursday, 13 June 2013 04:27 (thirteen years ago)

the matches one is great. it reminds me of like an underwater biosphere where people live after the earth has become uninhabitable. might buy the album just to own the cover.

Treeship, Thursday, 13 June 2013 04:39 (thirteen years ago)

Yeah the Matchless one is very good. Must be loads of record covers with that New Atlantis/Captain Nemo/Jar Jar Binks concept on them (e.g. Eternal Tapestry album from last year, though that was clearly in space), but that one is done in a really neat way, kind of a hodge-podge of styles: 50's architectural magazine feature in the foreground, stuff in the background is almost a chintzy Christmas card alpine village, but the perspective and layout is totally Japanese landscape painting, and then that roof is very Eurostar terminal at St Pancras. What does it sound like?

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Thursday, 13 June 2013 09:00 (thirteen years ago)

Miles one is *very* similar to the last Junior Boys album whatever the heck that was called, I still like it though. Good record too, more of a focussed and dance-oriented thing than the Demdike stuff, still plenty of weirdness though (it's Miles Whittaker for anyone that was wondering).

dschinghis kraan (NickB), Thursday, 13 June 2013 09:03 (thirteen years ago)

This was the Junior Boys cover I meant:

Matchess one is just actual 1970s NASA concept art.
